A disc herniation is a prolapse of the central substance of a disc through the surrounding annulus. Pain occurs when the disc protrusion causes trauma and inflammation to adjacent tissues (e.g., the posterior longitudinal ligament).
Radicular disorder syndromes are represented by segmental radicular symptoms (pain or paresthesia in the dermatome area, muscle weakness in the root innervation area).
Cervical radiculopathy is a set of symptoms that include neurogenic pain in the neck and upper limb, caused by the cervical nerve roots. In addition to pain, there may be numbness, weakness, and decreased reflexes.
