Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (dermatology)

Sclerotic lichen planus

Lichen sclerosus is an inflammatory dermatosis of unknown etiology, possibly of autoimmune origin, usually affecting the anogenital area.

Sweet's syndrome

Sweet's syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis) is characterized by the formation of soft, indurative, dark red papules and plaques with marked edema of the upper dermis and an infiltrate of neutrophils on histopathological examination.

Hirsutism

Hirsutism (hypertrichosis) is excessive hair growth with or without virilization. Hirsutism is excessive male-pattern hair growth in women. What causes hirsutism? Treatment for hirsutism

Paronychia

Paronychia is an infection of the tissues around the nail. Paronychia is usually an acute infection, but chronic cases also occur. In acute paronychia, the pathogenic organisms are usually Staphylococcus aureus or streptococci, and less commonly Pseudomonas or Proteus spp. The microorganisms enter through damage to the epidermis.

Sweating: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Prickly heat most often develops in warm and humid weather, but can also occur in cool weather if the patient dresses too warmly. The type of damage depends on the depth of the channel that is blocked.

Hypohidrosis: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Hypohidrosis due to skin damage is rarely clinically significant. The disease develops at sites of skin damage [trauma, infection (leprosy) or inflammation] or due to atrophy of connective tissue glands (in scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome).

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that can be localized or widespread and has multiple causes. Sweating of the armpits, palms, and feet is most often caused by stress.

Erythropoietic protoporphyria: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Characteristic clinical manifestations of EPP can develop in newborns in the form of skin burns even after a short exposure to the sun.

Late cutaneous porphyria: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Porphyria cutanea tarda is a relatively common pathology affecting mainly the skin. Iron ions play a key role in the pathogenesis of this form of porphyria.

Reticulosarcoma of the skin: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Reticulosarcoma (syn.: reticulosarcoma, histioblastic reticulosarcoma, malignant lymphoma (histiocytic)). This disease is based on the malignant proliferation of histiocytes or other mononuclear phagocytes.
