Diseases of the nervous system (neurology)

Icenko-Cushing's syndrome.

A distinction is made between Itsenko-Cushing's disease, which has a hypothalamic-pituitary origin, and Itsenko-Cushing's syndrome itself - a disease associated with primary damage to the adrenal glands. This section only considers the cerebral form of the disease.

Dercum's disease: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Dercum's disease (painful lipomatosis) is more common in women aged 40 to 50 years. It manifests itself as painful fatty deposits in the subcutaneous tissue in the form of lipomatous nodes of varying sizes. The skin over the lipomatous nodes is often reddened. The nodes are very painful. Their localization is usually asymmetrical, and their mobility is good.

Morgagnes-Stewart-Morel syndrome: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Morgagni-Stuard-Morel syndrome is characterized by thickening of the inner plate of the frontal part (frontal hyperostosis), general obesity with a pronounced double chin and fatty apron, usually without stretch marks on the skin, often intracranial hypertension, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism, severe headaches predominantly in the frontal and occipital localization, memory loss, depression, diabetes mellitus.

Kleine-Levin syndrome: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Kleine-Levin syndrome is characterized by periodic hypersomnia, paroxysmal hunger with hyperphagia, periods of motor restlessness, episodic hyperosmia, and sexual hyperactivity. Typically, during attacks of the disease, the patient sleeps from 18 to 20 hours or more per day. In the waking state, hyperphagia and masturbation are observed.

Babinski-Frelich adiposogenital dystrophy

In Babinski-Fröhlich adiposogenital dystrophy, there is predominant fat deposition on the trunk, especially in the abdominal area ("apron") and thighs. As a rule, it develops in the period preceding puberty. Characterized by growth retardation and hypogonadism. In men, underdevelopment of the genitals is often accompanied by cryptorchidism.

Cerebral obesity: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

The following forms of cerebral obesity are observed: Itsenko-Cushing's disease, adiposogenital dystrophy, Lawrence-Moon-Bardet-Biedl syndrome, Morgagni-Steward-Morel, Prader-Willi, Kleine-Levin, Alstrom-Halgren, Edwards, Barraquer-Siemens lipodystrophy, Dercum's disease, Madelung's disease, mixed form of obesity.

Neuroendocrine syndromes: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Symptoms of neuroendocrine-metabolic syndromes are determined by the degree and nature of dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary system. The peculiarity of neuroendocrine syndromes is their clinical polymorphism and close connection with vegetative, emotional and motivational disorders.

Sexual dysfunction (impotence)

Decreased libido may occur in neurological diseases (spinal cord tumors, multiple sclerosis, tabes dorsalis), endocrine diseases (pituitary dysfunction, Sheehan syndrome, Simmonds disease, hyperpituitarism, persistent lactorea and amenorrhea syndrome, acromegaly

Orthostatic hypotension

Orthostatic hypotension is an important clinical syndrome that occurs in many neurological and somatic diseases. With orthostatic hypotension, the neurologist is primarily faced with problems of falls and fainting.

Peripheral autonomic failure - Treatment

Treatment of peripheral autonomic failure is symptomatic and is a rather difficult task for a physician. Treatment of many manifestations of peripheral autonomic failure has not yet been sufficiently developed. We will touch upon the issues of treatment of the most severe disorders that maladaptive patients.
