Today, we increasingly have to deal with the problem of various rashes, irritations, spots. One of the main reasons for visiting a dermatologist are red spots on the body. They appear in both children and adults for various reasons. Men and women are equally susceptible.
Many people ignore this symptom and do not think that if any spots appear on the body, you need to see a doctor. But this is far from true. If any spots appear, especially red ones, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible. This will help to quickly undergo diagnostics and choose the necessary treatment. Spots must be examined, since they can be a sign of serious diseases.
Causes red spots on the body
They often occur as a result of the combined effects of several causes, when taking certain medications, eating foods that cause allergies. Excessive content of dyes, flavors, flavonoids in food can cause allergies. Often the cause of the development of pathology is chocolate, citrus fruits, honey, nuts. If an allergic reaction occurs against the background of nervous tension, they talk about neurodermatitis.
Often, allergic reactions join blisters and rashes, itching and irritation occur. The person scratches the skin, red spots spread all over the body. An additional sign of allergic rashes is severe itching. If spots of an allergic nature appear, you need to contact a dermatologist and allergist as soon as possible. They will examine the patient and make a diagnosis. Then, in accordance with the established diagnosis, a treatment will be selected that will help eliminate the pathology. Symptomatic agents are often prescribed that eliminate the signs of allergy, for example: loratadine, agistame, suprastin, cetrin, tavegil.
Improper nutrition is a trigger for pathological rashes. Sometimes, to eliminate pathology, it is enough to adjust your diet. Often, rashes appear as a result of a lack of vitamins, an incorrect ratio between proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Both a deficiency and an excess of certain substances can cause an imbalance.
The cause of the rash can be various pathological diseases of an infectious nature, dysbacteriosis. Most often, a red rash appears as a result of a viral, bacterial, fungal infection. Infectious rash is most often accompanied by an increase in temperature, intoxication. The rash may indicate syphilis, chickenpox, typhoid fever, and other pathologies. With scarlet fever, a small-point rash appears. Most often, the rash is caused by hypertension or hypotension, a violation of vascular tone. Nervous reactions that disrupt vascular tone, spasm them, emotional changes, sharp emotions (positive, negative). Severe neuropsychic overstrain, stress, overexcitation can cause a skin reaction. Sedatives and calming drugs are prescribed.
Lichen can manifest itself as skin rashes, peeling. Later, areas deprived of pigmentation appear. Lichen is treated with antifungal drugs. With diathesis, psoriasis, photodermatosis, atopic dermatitis, seborrhea, various dermatological diseases, injuries, a rash and skin redness appear.
The cause may also be excessive exposure of the body to various unfavorable factors, including chemicals, solariums, various types of radiation, and sun rays.

Risk factors
Pathogenesis
The pathogenesis is based on the disruption of normal metabolism at the tissue and cellular level, which results in disruption of normal vascular blood circulation. Metabolic processes in the cells of the upper layers of the skin are disrupted. As a result, the skin does not receive the necessary amount of oxygen and nutrients. Metabolic products and carbon dioxide are also not removed from the skin. Various pigments and toxins accumulate, which leads to the development of an inflammatory process and intoxication. Tissue mediators, hormones, histamine, and lymphocytes arrive at the site of inflammation. This contributes to the development of irritation, itching, redness, and other skin reactions.
Epidemiology
According to statistics, red skin rashes are observed in 98% of people. At least once in a lifetime, every person has experienced such manifestations. In 34% of people, the cause was viral and infectious diseases, in 37% of people, rashes of an allergic nature. In 21% of people, rashes were caused by improper nutrition, the presence of a large number of dyes and flavors in food. In 12% of cases, a similar picture appears against the background of a lack of vitamins, and in 55% - with reduced immunity.
Symptoms
The symptoms are various red skin manifestations: rash, redness, swelling, hyperemia. Often the red spots are accompanied by itching. Later, intoxication may develop, which is manifested by fever, nausea, vomiting. The rash can spread and be transmitted.
An early sign is redness of certain areas of the skin. This is already a reason for concern and further consultation with a doctor.
The body is covered with red spots, reasons
The main thing is not to do anything on your own. You need to determine the origin. Treatment of spots also directly depends on what is the cause of the development of the pathology. Therefore, treatment is prescribed based on the results of the tests. Rashes can be a sign of food or allergic reactions, overdose or side effects of any drug or substance. It is enough to simply cancel the effect of this factor, and the condition will normalize. Usually, no additional measures or treatment are required.
If the rash is caused by a disease or severe pathology, appropriate therapy must be administered. Most often, the therapy is etiological, that is, it is aimed at eliminating the factor that caused the pathology. For example, if the rash is caused by a bacterial disease, antibiotic therapy is prescribed. If the cause is a viral disease, antiviral therapy is prescribed. In case of allergies, treatment is carried out with antihistamines and antiallergic drugs. In case of severe inflammation, anti-inflammatory therapy is required.
Red spots on the child's body
Quite often they point to other infectious and somatic diseases that are not connected with each other. Without a comprehensive diagnosis it is difficult to give an answer as to what is wrong with the child.
They are one of the symptoms of rubella. This is a fairly common viral disease. The rash is small in size, usually lasts 7-10 days, then subsides.
Red spots may indicate measles, which also occurs as a result of contamination of the body with pathogens. Accompanied by hyperthermia, cough and runny nose, tear flow. Initially small in size, but gradually grow in size, reaching quite large sizes. The first are located on the face, gradually spreading to the neck, trunk, limbs.
Scarlet fever can also manifest itself as a red rash. At first, pinpoint spots appear, quite bright, the skin turns red. Initially - in places where the body bends: elbows, knee area. Then it spreads to the cheeks. All this is accompanied by such symptoms as pain and burning in the throat, tickling, cough.
Or it is a manifestation of such a specific disease as roseola infantum, or sudden exanthema. This is a disease that manifests itself only in a child aged 2 years. There is an increase in temperature, which is practically not brought down by anything. Then it decreases, after which the face is covered with red spots. In most children, they pass on their own, but there are cases when additional treatment is required.
Red spots that are rough to the touch may be a sign of lichen. They may itch or not. Sometimes they flake, sometimes not. Most often they occur after contact with stray dogs and cats, wild animals. There are many types of lichen. An examination is required to make an accurate diagnosis. Usually, scraping off cells from the affected area is enough.
A red rash can also indicate chickenpox. The rash is not always red, quite often it is pink. Such a rash is characterized by severe itching and burning. However, you should not scratch, as you can only worsen the condition and get complications, such as an infectious process.
Allergic dermatitis causes a red rash. Dermatitis can even occur in infants due to a reaction to a certain product or substance.
Sometimes they appear in the mouth. This is a sign of stomatitis, which affects the mucous membrane. This can occur as a result of pathogenic microorganisms, as well as against the background of dysbacteriosis. It requires urgent treatment, since such spots tend to quickly spread throughout the oral cavity. Even the esophagus can be affected. The child cannot eat, since this process becomes painful. In addition, small erosions appear, which, increasing, merge into larger ulcers. It is necessary to provide emergency care immediately, since this can cause anaphylactic shock.
Red spots on the body of a newborn
In newborns, the cause of the pathology is prickly heat, which causes spots to form. It is observed in those who use diapers and nappies. Chamomile, calendula, succession and other decoctions are used. Baby powder is used. To prevent the appearance of spots, you need to wear natural clothing that absorbs sweat well. The main reason for the appearance is an allergic reaction to the effects of any allergen, to children's cosmetics.
Red spots on the body during pregnancy and after childbirth
During pregnancy, dysbacteriosis develops, since the microflora changes abruptly, and hormonal levels change abruptly. The level of histamine increases significantly, which leads to increased sensitization of the body, allergization. All this contributes to the development of the pathological process, and a rash develops.
Often this is a consequence of damage to blood vessels, bruises, incorrect straining during childbirth, increased pressure. It also occurs as a post-traumatic syndrome, a result of the inflammatory process.
Stages
There are three stages of development of any spots. At the first stage, prerequisites for the appearance of spots appear. Light peeling appears, the skin becomes irritated. At the second stage, a rather strong, bright rash appears, which lasts for several days. At the third stage, the rash begins to disappear, its severity gradually decreases, the color is removed.

Forms
There are many types of red spots on the body. Accordingly, there are also many different classifications, based on which the types are distinguished. For example, there is a classification by etiological sign, which is based on the cause of the pathology. According to this classification, vascular spots are distinguished, which arise as a result of defects or inflammatory processes in the vessels. They can arise as a result of trauma, mechanical damage to the vessels, circulatory disorders, metabolic processes, vascular tone.
Vascular spots are divided into hyperemic, which are saturated with blood. The cause may be the expansion of blood vessels, which occurs during illness, as a result of emotional reactions. Such spots are usually localized on the back, neck, face, chest.
Hemorrhagic spots occur as a result of bleeding into tissues and can occur both with internal diseases and with diffuse injuries. Most often, this is one of the symptoms of severe vascular damage.
Telangiectatic spots are caused by persistent or temporary dilation of blood vessels. These include the so-called "spider veins," dilated networks of blood vessels, and the redness that develops as a result.
Separately, pigment spots are distinguished, which appear as a result of a deficiency or excess of any pigment, dysfunction of metabolic processes, especially vitamin-mineral metabolism. Hypopigmented and hyperpigmented spots are distinguished.
Lichen spots (red flat, shingles, multi-colored) are caused by various reasons, and the pathogenesis varies. A classification based on visual characteristics is widely known. In accordance with these signs, vascular, pigment spots are distinguished. A special group is formed by spots of artificial origin. This includes tattoos, permanent makeup.
Red spots on the body itch
Without diagnostics and test results, it is almost impossible to answer this question unequivocally. It can be assumed that the cause of the pathology may be an allergic reaction, intolerance to individual components and food products, the effect of medications. Sometimes a severe infectious disease, such as chickenpox or syphilis, can manifest itself this way. Ringworm and various fungal diseases can cause the development of pathology.
Accordingly, the treatment of each individual case will differ. So, if it turns out that the cause is an allergy, antiallergic drugs will be prescribed. If the cause is, for example, lichen, long-term antifungal, and possibly anti-inflammatory therapy will be required.
Red flaky spots on the body
Possibly due to excessively dry skin, lack of normal metabolism. Or a sign of psoriasis, diathesis, seborrhea, lichen, other somatic and infectious diseases.
Their size increases. The spots begin to merge with each other, which leads to severe peeling. The pathology requires mandatory treatment, since it will not go away on its own, the situation can only worsen. Predisposition and external factors mainly lead to the development of such pathologies.
Red flaky spots on the body, do not itch
They indicate various pathologies of the liver, kidneys, heart, and the impact of negative environmental factors. For example, as a result of prolonged exposure to cold and frost. Also, spots without itching may indicate excessive exposure of the skin to sunlight, solariums, and other types of radiation. In summer, photodermatosis may manifest itself in a similar way as a result of exposure to sunlight and burns. With sensitive skin - a reaction to wind, heat, water, and sun. It is necessary to use products that have a photoprotective effect.
In winter, even central heating can cause such reactions, as it dries the skin. Too dry indoor air occurs as a result of prolonged use of heaters, air conditioners. Consultation with a dermatologist or cosmetologist is required.

Diagnostics red spots on the body
The diagnostic process is quite complicated. First, you need to see a general practitioner or a dermatologist. The doctor will collect primary information, study the anamnesis of life and illness. After that, a general and special examination will be performed. Also at this stage, the doctor prescribes general tests, which make it possible to get a general picture of the pathology.
After this, the person is usually referred for additional consultation to other specialists, since only a preliminary diagnosis can be made based on the available data. The necessary examinations are carried out, the missing laboratory and instrumental studies are prescribed. Only after a complete picture is obtained, a final diagnosis can be made and the necessary treatment selected. There is also often a need for differential diagnostics, since many diseases have similar manifestations. It is carried out in order to clearly distinguish the manifestations of one disease from the manifestations of another similar disease. It is especially difficult to carry out differential diagnostics for children.
Tests
First of all, standard clinical tests are prescribed - blood, urine and stool tests. They can be very informative, despite their primitiveness and simplicity. They can show the nature of the pathology: indicate whether the disease is viral, bacterial, allergic or invasive. It is possible to determine how long the pathological process has been going on in the body, and at what stage it is. With the help of the analysis, it is possible to determine the approximate localization of the inflammatory process.
Then, based on the preliminary picture obtained by clinical methods, a scheme of additional diagnostics is selected. A biochemical analysis may be prescribed, which will reveal the features of biochemical processes in the body, indicate possible metabolic disorders. It is possible to obtain a general picture of the pathology.
Based on the immunogram, it is possible to study the state of the immune system, the mechanisms of specific and non-specific protection of the body, identify the state of the immune system, make a prognosis regarding the effectiveness of treatment, the rate of recovery.
If allergic diseases are suspected, allergological, immunological and other research methods are carried out. The level of immunoglobulin E, which is an indicator of a delayed-type allergic reaction, is necessarily determined.
If a viral disease is suspected, virological diagnostics are performed. The pathogen, its species and genus, the degree of viral load, and the activity or inactivity of the virus are determined. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods can be used. Quantitative methods are considered more informative, since they make it possible to determine the exact amount of virus in the blood and, in accordance with this data, select the necessary treatment.
It is also recommended to conduct an analysis for latent infections. Since they are dangerous because they develop asymptomatically, without showing any signs. But subsequently, a severe pathology develops, which is often difficult to cure.
If a bacterial infection is suspected, a bacteriological study is carried out. For this, biological material is collected, which is then sown on a nutrient medium. First, a universal medium is sown, and incubated for several days in a thermostat.
After this, the largest, single colonies are selected, microscopic examination is performed, and seeding is done on a selective medium to obtain a pure culture. After a pure culture is obtained, its species and genus identification is performed, and the main pathogen is determined. A series of biochemical and serological studies are performed with it, and the concentration is determined. After this, a conclusion is made about the nature of the disease and the degree of bacterial contamination.
If dysbacteriosis is suspected, a corresponding study of feces for dysbacteriosis is prescribed. Additionally, such research methods as scraping, analysis for helminth eggs, mycological studies to determine fungal diseases may be prescribed. A study is often carried out for the presence of a subcutaneous mite - demodex. For this, a scraping of skin particles or a scraping from the surface of the spot is done, and subsequent microscopy is carried out.
Instrumental diagnostics
If there is insufficient information to make a diagnosis, instrumental diagnostics may be prescribed. What studies will be required and what methods will be used depend on the suspected cause. So, if it is assumed that the spots are a consequence of cardiovascular pathology, useful information can be provided by such studies as electrocardiogram, angiography, MRI.
If you suspect that the rash is caused by a gastrointestinal disease, it is advisable to perform a gastroscopy, ultrasound of the abdominal organs, or an X-ray examination.
Differential diagnosis
Differential diagnostics is based on the need to differentiate various diseases. In order to differentiate spots that occur with a particular pathology, it is necessary to conduct a series of studies. For example, it is necessary to carefully study the anamnesis. Based on the clinical picture, the results of an objective examination and the subjective sensations of the patient, certain conclusions can be made. If this is not enough, it is advisable to conduct a virological or bacteriological study. Having isolated the pathogen in a pure culture, an appropriate diagnosis can be made.
Differential diagnostics also comes down to determining the subtype of the disease. For example, if it was possible to accurately determine that the cause of the rash was lichen, it is necessary to determine its type (ringworm, shingles, pink, etc.).

Treatment red spots on the body
Only on the basis of the data obtained can treatment be selected.
Complications and consequences
Complications that may occur if the disease is not treated are very dangerous. The most dangerous is the progression of the disease, the generalization of the inflammatory and infectious process. Tumors (benign, malignant) are dangerous, against the background of reduced immunity and progression of the disease, especially if they are caused by oncogenic viruses.
Red spots on the body can disappear without a trace, provided the right approach to treatment. This requires proper diagnostics. You need to contact a specialist as soon as possible. If treatment is not carried out, the prognosis may be unfavorable.
Prevention
Prevention is based on timely diagnostics, which will allow to identify the cause of the pathology at early stages and prescribe the necessary treatment. It is important to treat the identified infectious and inflammatory processes in a timely manner. It is necessary to maintain the normal state of the immune system. To do this, you need to get the required amount of vitamins and microelements. Nutrition should be complete and balanced. It is necessary to maintain the required level of physical activity, do breathing and relaxation exercises.

Forecast
If all the doctor's recommendations are followed and the diagnosis is made in a timely manner, the prognosis may be favorable. In this case, the red spots on the body disappear completely. If the recommendations are not followed, the prognosis may be extremely unfavorable. Often, spots are a sign of serious diseases.
