Types and symptoms of back pain

Spinal hernia and back pain

It is known that congenital malformations of the spinal cord (myelodysplasia) are usually combined with some variant of malformation of the spine. The most common and most studied variant of myelodysplasia is spinal hernia.

Congenital kyphosis

The peculiarity of congenital kyphosis makes it necessary to consider this type of spinal deformity separately. Traditionally, the group of congenital kyphosis includes not only single-plane sagittal deformities or so-called "pure" (English "rige") kyphosis, but also kyphoscoliotic deformities with a leading kyphotic component.

Congenital spinal deformities and back pain

One of the most difficult problems in assessing congenital spinal deformities is predicting their course and, consequently, determining the timing and indications for surgical intervention.

Vertebral malformations and back pain

Symptoms of vertebral malformations may be absent, and the malformation itself may be accidentally detected during radiological examination. The term vertebral malformations is used in cases where the main cause is a vertebral anomaly.

Spinal trauma and back pain

What should be understood by the term "spinal injury"? Spinal cord injury, as is customary in Russian literature, or spinal cord injury, as follows from the literal translation from the English word spine?

Spinal cord injuries, trauma and back pain

It is hardly possible to overestimate the place of spinal trauma in the overall structure of traumatic injuries, the number of which is steadily growing along with the rise in living standards, the development of modern transport, the increase in the number of military conflicts, etc., etc.

Certain diseases accompanied by spinal deformity

As mentioned earlier, spinal deformity is often one of the symptoms of diseases of other organs and systems. We considered it necessary to describe some of these diseases in this section, focusing not so much on the features of vertebral syndrome as on insufficiently known facts concerning the nosological forms themselves.

Scoliosis as a factor in the development of back pain

Among the structural deformities of the spine, the most common are idiopathic scoliosis (i.e. scoliosis with an unclear etiology), the prevalence of which in the population reaches 15.3%.

Spinal deformities and back pain

Spinal deformity is a deviation of the spine as a whole, its sections or individual segments from the average physiological position in any of the three planes - frontal, sagittal, horizontal.

Neck and back pain

Neck and back pain are common, especially in older people. Lower back pain affects 50% of people over 60. Symptoms may include simple local pain, sharp or dull, chronic or remittent, dependent on any cause and accompanied by muscle spasm.
