Mysterious cases that defy scientific explanation
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025
Medicine does not stand still and today treatment methods have reached a high level, thanks to which a huge number of people around the world successfully get rid of various diseases, including the most complex ones.
But, despite scientific progress, even today doctors have to deal with incredible cases that cannot be explained.
For example, there is a woman in England who hears the sounds of her body, such as the movement of her eyes or the blood flowing through her veins. Julie Redfern first heard a faint squeak while playing Tetris. At first, she could not determine the source of the sound, but later found out that it appeared when her eyes moved. A couple of years later, Julia heard the sound of blood flowing through her veins.
The sounds of chewing food were so loud for her that they drowned out all other sounds, including conversations. The disease progressed, and as a result, even the sound of a regular telephone turned into torture for Julia. Doctors diagnosed a very rare disorder in which the bones of the inner ear lose density, resulting in extremely sensitive hearing. Doctors performed the world's first hearing restoration surgery on Julie in one ear, which was successful.
Another interesting case in medicine is a boy who does not feel hunger. In 2013, Landon Jones began to suffer from a constant cough, one morning he woke up completely tired and without appetite. Doctors found an infection in the child's lung, which was overcome with difficulty. However, after recovery, Landon never regained his hunger and thirst, as a result, the boy began to lose weight quickly. After his parents realized what was going on, Landon managed to lose 16 kg.
Experts cannot determine what exactly caused the disorder. The boy's parents showed him to various professors from different countries, but no one was able to determine what exactly blocks the feeling of hunger. Doctors believe that Landon may be the only one on the planet who suffers from such a disorder.
The boy is now under constant supervision to ensure that he eats and drinks regularly. Even the teachers at the boy's school check to make sure he hasn't forgotten to eat lunch.
In Florida, nine-year-old Marysia Grivna's life changed completely after a routine flu shot. The girl couldn't get out of bed in the morning three days after the vaccine. Doctors diagnosed her with multiple sclerosis. In this disease, the body's own immune system begins to destroy the membrane that covers the nerves of the brain and spinal cord. As a result, the white matter becomes extremely sensitive, and the disease can lead to paralysis and blindness.
Doctors are not sure whether the flu vaccine is to blame for the development of the disease. Doctors conducted an extensive examination of the girl, but were unable to establish the exact cause of the disease, although the girl's parents are sure that it was all due to the vaccine given the day before.
Doctors are not currently giving the girl a prognosis, although they note that there is a small chance that the symptoms can be reversed.
A father in Yemen was surprised when his daughter burst into tears and tiny stones fell from her eyes. Saadia is not the only child in the family, there are 11 other children, but she is the only one with this unique ability. Doctors cannot diagnose the disease and do not detect any pathologies or developmental disorders in the eyes.
According to her father, Saadia also cries normal tears, the stones usually appear in the evening or at night, and the girl does not experience any discomfort or pain.
In New York, 12 girls at one school developed the same strange symptoms, the cause of which doctors were never able to determine.
All the girls studied at the same school and at almost the same time they developed vocal tics, and their arms and legs refused to obey them.
Initially, doctors decided that the girls suffered from Tourette syndrome (muscle tics, facial, neck and shoulders). The neurologist examining the girls suggested mass hysteria, while other specialists believed that the problem was tension.
However, two mothers were not satisfied with this conclusion, but they were never provided with an official report of the investigation, which, according to health officials, did not reveal anything that could have caused such symptoms in the children.
