The World Health Assembly continued its work in Geneva
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025

The World Health Assembly continued its work in Geneva. During the work, plans were approved for providing assistance to patients and their families, improving the quality of life and access to health services for people with disabilities, autists, as well as introducing traditional methods of treatment, increasing information about certain diseases, etc.
The World Health Organization strategy for the use of traditional medicine has been approved. Traditional methods of treatment are quite diverse. The new plan, designed for 2014-2023, is aimed at creating a knowledge base that will help strengthen quality control, improve safety, and ensure the appropriate use of traditional medicine. In addition, the program aims to introduce traditional medicine, especially in home care or health care.
In addition, the World Health Organization's action plan will affect people with disabilities. First of all, the changes should affect the quality of life of billions of people with disabilities around the world. For these purposes, it is planned to expand access of people with disabilities to medical services, create new services and technologies that will help restore lost functions.
People with disabilities also need health care, but such patients are more often denied health care, and cases of poor treatment in medical institutions are not uncommon. According to statistics, every seventh person in the world is disabled. The likelihood of developing a disability increases as the average life expectancy increases and chronic diseases become more common. In addition, road accidents, falls, natural disasters, the use of psychoactive drugs, poor nutrition, etc. lead to disability.
The Health Assembly called on states to take into account the needs of people with mental disorders. The program envisages the development of children and adolescents with autism, in particular, social protection, outpatient treatment, and expansion of health care capacity. It also envisages improving the system of monitoring the health of such patients and collecting data on mental disorders in order to provide countries with assistance in the effective diagnosis and treatment of autism disorders.
Currently, most families raising a child with autism do not receive social protection and necessary services from the healthcare system.
According to the decision taken on psoriasis, states need to raise awareness among citizens about the disease, as most psoriasis patients experience psychological discomfort due to their disease. The assembly called for drawing public attention to the problem of psoriasis and making a detailed report on this disease.
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that manifests itself as red flaking of the skin. Patients with psoriasis have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, etc. Such patients also have a tendency to depression and increased anxiety.
Regarding services that improve the quality of life of patients and their families, the assembly noted the importance of this area, since the world has seen a trend towards an increase in infectious diseases.
