We have already said that each essential oil has its own properties and application features for various diseases. Therefore, you should always take into account the method of application and doses of essential oils recommended by your doctor. After all, essential oils are considered a concentrated product, so to achieve a therapeutic effect, usually only a few drops are enough, and exceeding the doses negatively affects the well-being of patients.
Tea tree oil
This aromatic ether has a pronounced antimicrobial and antiviral effect, so it helps to relieve almost all symptoms of infection in 3-4 days. With angina, tea tree oil relieves pain and irritation in the throat, helps to relieve fever and swelling of the mucous membrane, since its use reduces the number of pathogens at the site of inflammation.
Tea tree oil effectively copes with gram-positive and gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, reduces the activity of viruses and yeast-like fungi, in other words, it has a wide range of action, which is very important for sore throats, the causative agents of which can be various pathogens. Moreover, it helps remove toxins and decay products of bacteria and viruses from the body's tissues, which only increase the body's sensitivity to pathogens and allergens, and thus increases local immunity.
Tea tree oil is among the leaders in the number of active components, providing it with remarkable properties of a local antiseptic. The bactericidal action of the oil is due to the high content of terpineol.
Tea tree essential oil is used for sore throat for the following purposes:
- Gargling. Add 4-5 drops of oil to a glass of warm water. Do the procedure 2-3 times a day.
- Steam inhalations (if there is no temperature). Add 2-3 drops of ether to 1 liter of hot water and carry out the procedure for 5 minutes.
- Dry inhalations. Apply a few drops of oil to a clean napkin and inhale the aroma for half an hour. Repeat aromatherapy 3 times a day.
The above procedures are effective for any form of angina. For purulent angina, they are carried out after rinsing with soda and salt and cleaning the tonsils from purulent plaque using a finger and a bandage.
Fir oil
This oil will pass any tests for purity and safety, because fir is a plant that prefers ecologically clean areas for life. And coniferous trees themselves are able to clean and disinfect the air around them. It is not surprising that fir oil is actively used to treat children.
This oil has a high content of vitamins, tannins and phytoncides, which provide it with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, antimicrobial and wound-healing effects. All these effects will come in handy for acute tonsillitis, as well as a calming effect that gives the patient a good night's rest.
How can fir oil be used for sore throat:
- For steam inhalations. Only 3 drops of oil are enough for 1 liter of hot water. You need to breathe in the healing steam for no more than 15 minutes. And the frequency of the procedure is 3-4 times a day.
- For lubricating the tonsils. For treating adults, use the undiluted preparation, for children it is diluted with base oil in a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3. The procedure is carried out up to 3 times a day.
- For gargling. Take 3-4 drops of fir oil per glass of warm water. To enhance the effect, you can add salt to the gargling solution. In case of purulent tonsillitis, it is better to first gargle with a saline solution, and then with an essential oil solution. Gargle at least 4 times a day.
- For compresses on the neck area. In this case, mix fir oil with olive or sunflower oil, taking 1 part of ether to 10 parts of base oil. Wet a napkin in this composition and apply it to the neck, leaving it to act for a couple of hours.
It is good to spray fir oil in the patient's room for sore throat, adding a few drops of it to the water in the sprayer or pouring the composition into an aroma lamp. Such a procedure will have a general health effect, disinfect the air in the room, and improve the patient's sleep.
Black cumin oil
This unusual product also has the ability to effectively fight bacteria and relieve inflammation of the throat mucosa, which is also a reliable support for general and local immunity. And when a cough appears, caraway oil will promote easier and more comfortable discharge of phlegm.
One of the main symptoms of angina is high body temperature. Caraway oil for angina will help quickly and safely return the thermometer readings to normal. It is enough to just lubricate the patient's skin with this healing product.
To combat infection that has settled on the tonsils, they are lubricated with pure caraway oil. The same can be done with the nasal passages. For gargling, add 1 boat of oil to 1 glass of warm water. For inhalation, add 5 drops of healing ether to 1 liter of water and inhale the vapors for a quarter of an hour.
Sometimes, when you are sick, you may feel pain and aches in your joints and muscles. You can also lubricate the painful areas with caraway oil, and the unpleasant symptoms will subside.

Peach oil
This aromatic product, although not included in the top three essential oils in terms of effectiveness in treating sore throats, is also actively used to relieve symptoms of the disease. This oil is obtained from peeled fruit seeds (the internal contents of the seeds).
When applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth, it helps to moisturize them and reduces the feeling of dryness and irritation in the throat, promotes rapid healing of microcracks and restoration of inflamed tissues, relieves inflammation and swelling of the throat and tonsils. Moreover, peach kernel oil is considered one of the safest both for local use and for internal use, so it is chosen for the treatment of children and expectant mothers.
In the treatment of sore throat, the most effective procedure is considered to be gargling, which reduces the number of bacteria, moisturizes the throat and heals microdamages. For gargling, 5-6 drops of peach oil should be dissolved in a glass of water. The cleansing procedure with such a composition should be carried out up to 5 times a day.
For infants and small children who do not know how to gargle, the tonsils are wiped with a ready-made gargling solution using a finger and a bandage soaked in the solution.
Adults will also benefit from lubricating the inflamed mucous membrane with pure oil, which has a rather pleasant aroma and does not cause unpleasant burning sensations typical of fir oil.
Peach essential oil is also used for steam inhalations, adding 4-5 drops of oil to water and inhaling its vapors for at least 10 minutes.
The use of this oil is more effective for catarrhal tonsillitis. For the treatment of purulent forms, it should be used in combination with antiseptic and antimicrobial agents.
Lemon oil
Sour citrus with a sunny color is among the leaders in vitamin C content, which is simply irreplaceable for colds, as it can restore immunity and reduce high body temperature. Lemon essential oil is a concentrate of all those useful substances that are contained in ripe fruits, so its effect is stronger than lemon juice.
For sore throat, lemon oil is used in combination with other essential oils, using it for gargling and inhalation. A few drops of oil can be added to warm drinks, recommended for sore throat and colds in large quantities. The essential oil is good for use in aroma lamps and for spraying indoors.
Lemon oil has good antioxidant properties, thanks to it any illness goes away faster.
Rosehip oil
Rosehip oil is also valued for its high content of vitamin C and other useful substances, providing it with good anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, softening and wound-healing effects. It is most beneficial if used to lubricate inflamed tonsils, but it can also be added to gargles. It is better not to carry out thermal procedures with lemon or rosehip oil, because in this case, such valuable vitamin C is destroyed.
Eucalyptus oil
This incredibly aromatic essential oil is often used to treat upper and lower respiratory tract diseases. It promotes rapid healing of inflamed throat mucosa, effectively fights pathogens, facilitates breathing and promotes more effective expectoration. Eucalyptus is also useful as an excellent immune system stimulant.
For sore throat, eucalyptus essential oil is used to gargle a sore throat. In this case, no more than 2 drops of oil should be added to a glass of warm water. 2-3 procedures on the first day of illness, and the next morning the patient will feel a noticeable relief of symptoms: a decrease in temperature, intensity of sore throat, swelling of the mucous membrane.
Treatment with eucalyptus oil is suitable for both catarrhal and purulent forms of angina due to the good disinfectant action of the active substance. In chronic angina, gargling will increase local immunity and reduce the likelihood of relapse of the disease, and in acute angina, it will prevent complications.

Cocoa butter
This is a slightly unusual oil, which can hardly be classified as an essential oil, although the product has a rich chocolate aroma. The fact is that the consistency of this oil is solid, and when treating a sore throat, it is measured not in drops, but in pieces.
Cocoa butter was most often used to treat coughs and bronchitis, but over time its healing properties for acute tonsillitis were also discovered. Cocoa butter melts easily (melting point is 32 degrees), so it can be used in the same recipes as butter, adding a piece (5-10 g or 1-2 tsp melted) to warm milk with or without honey. The butter will perfectly soften the throat, relieve pain and irritation, promote the regeneration of damaged mucous tissue, and in case of coughing - promote easier expectoration.
The aroma of chocolate attracts little sweet tooths, so they like cocoa butter-based medicines even more than those with added butter. And it's good when the treatment of a disease takes place without tears and persuasion. However, you can't cure a sore throat with oils alone, and you can't do without taking medicine.
