Sea buckthorn is not in vain considered an unusually healthy berry, despite its sour, cheekbone-straining taste. It is a natural storehouse of useful vitamins and minerals, which promotes rapid restoration of the body's strength and recovery of patients.
Sea buckthorn is especially valued for its high content of vitamin E, which is extremely useful for the skin and mucous membranes due to its ability to stimulate regenerative processes in them. The use of sea buckthorn and its oil for sore throat helps to quickly restore the damaged mucous membrane of the throat and tonsils.
Sea buckthorn is considered an excellent fighter against hypovitaminosis and is able to significantly increase immunity in a short time, creating conditions for a quick recovery from tonsillitis and preventing complications of the disease and its transition to a chronic form. It is also an excellent preventive measure during the rampant viral and bacterial infections.
But sea buckthorn berries have a very sour taste, and their use can be an additional irritant for the inflamed mucous membrane, while sea buckthorn oil has a more delicate taste, has an enveloping and no less pronounced regenerating effect, and relieves inflammation in the throat and the pain caused by it in case of sore throat.
Sea buckthorn berries and oil prepared from them can be consumed both in the acute phase of the disease and during the recovery period, because they will promote a faster recovery and will not give the sore throat a chance to develop complications. In case of purulent sore throat, local application of sea buckthorn oil is possible only after cleansing the tonsils and throat from specific plaque and crusts containing the bacterial factor. After all, although sea buckthorn itself is capable of relieving inflammation, it does not have noticeable bactericidal properties.
Tea tree oil is more suitable for fighting bacterial infections, but again it should be used after removing pus and films.
Let's see what are the possibilities of using sea buckthorn oil for acute tonsillitis:
- To gargle, take 1 glass of warm water, dilute 1 teaspoon of sea buckthorn oil in it and gargle with the solution several times a day at intervals of 20-25 minutes. The next day you can see that the sore throat has disappeared and the red color of the mucous membranes has become less intense.
- For steam inhalations (in the absence of high temperature) take 1-2 tablespoons of sea buckthorn oil per 1 liter of hot water. Breathe over the steam for 10 minutes, repeating the procedure 2-3 times a day.
- To lubricate the throat, use the oil in its pure form. Dip a finger with a bandage wound around it in it and thoroughly lubricate the tonsils. This procedure is most effectively carried out after gargling and cleaning the throat from bacterial plaque.
- For nasal drops, the oil is also not diluted, unless it is used to treat children, for whom any essential oils need to be diluted with base oils. You need to drop 2-3 drops of oil into each nostril and lie on your back for a while so that the oil gradually flows down the back of the throat, creating a protective film on it.
- For neck compresses, the oil can be used either in its pure form or diluted with water or another oil. After applying a napkin soaked in the medicinal composition to the neck, polyethylene is placed on top of it and additionally insulated with woolen fabric. Compresses can be done twice a day: in the morning and before bed.
You can take fresh berries with honey or sugar, compotes and drinks based on them, which will have a positive effect on the body's ability to fight the disease.
