Treatment of adnexitis is aimed primarily at destroying the infection that caused the inflammatory process in the appendages.

Anti-inflammatory drugs and various physiotherapeutic procedures are also used during therapy. The effectiveness of treatment depends on the timely establishment of the cause of the disease; in case of sexually transmitted infections (mycoplasmosis, gonorrhea, etc.), the emphasis will be on eliminating the underlying disease. Quite often, adnexitis is provoked by staphylococci, bacteroids, etc.; in this case, antibacterial therapy is used.

Treatment of chronic adnexitis

Treatment of chronic adnexitis is quite difficult, primarily because chronic inflammation is sluggish. During periods of remission, continuing therapy with antibacterial drugs is not justified.

If chronic adnexitis has become the cause of infertility, then surgical intervention is used.

Treatment of exacerbation of chronic adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis that has become chronic is complicated, first of all, by the fact that the cause of the disease (which can be different) is quite difficult to identify and is not always possible.

In case of chronic inflammation in the appendages, drug therapy, physiotherapy procedures, treatment in a sanatorium-resort setting, special therapeutic exercise, etc. are used.

Light gymnastics helps to strengthen the immune system, and walks in the fresh air and healthy eating also help to increase the body's defenses.

If chronic adnexitis worsens (pain appears, you feel unwell, etc.), you should consult a specialist and begin treatment.

During exacerbation of the process, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, sedatives, and vitamins are used. During periods of remission, physiotherapy treatment is indicated - acupuncture, electrophoresis, mud therapy.

Women with chronic adnexitis are recommended therapy in sanatoriums, therapeutic exercises, psychotherapy, etc.

During exacerbations, fried, fatty, and smoked foods are excluded from the diet, and salt intake is reduced as much as possible.

Frequent exacerbations of chronic adnexitis can lead to irreparable health consequences, so it is recommended not to provoke the disease: avoid hypothermia, heavy loads (physical and emotional).

Treatment of acute adnexitis

Treatment of acute adnexitis usually takes place in a hospital setting, otherwise, serious complications are possible (formation of pus, peritonitis, etc.). During therapy, it is important to stay in bed.

First of all, for acute adnexitis, painkillers, anti-inflammatory (if necessary, antibacterial, antimicrobial) drugs are prescribed.

When prescribing antibiotics, the sensitivity of the pathogen to the drug is necessarily taken into account. Most often, for acute adnexitis, apmicillin, tetracycline, ofloxacin, erythromycin, gentamicin, metronidazole, clindamycin are prescribed.

In acute inflammation, doctors prefer antibacterial drugs with a long half-life. In severe cases or suspected purulent complications, antibacterial drugs of different groups are prescribed, such as aminoglycosides and penicillins (oxacillin and kanamycin). The drugs can be prescribed both intravenously and orally, as a rule, intravenous administration of antibiotics is used at the beginning of treatment, with subsequent replacement with tablets.

Acute adnexitis often leads to intoxication of the body. In this case, intravenous administration of glucose, protein preparations, rheopolyglucin, etc. are added to the therapy.

When a purulent process has begun, surgery is mandatory - laparoscopy, during which pus is removed from the appendages and an antibacterial agent is introduced into the affected area. This method is minimally invasive and quite effective.

If acute adnexitis is not treated, it gradually becomes chronic with periodic exacerbations.

Treatment of subacute adnexitis

Treatment of subacute adnexitis, after the acute symptoms have been relieved, consists of physiotherapeutic procedures (ultrasound, mud therapy, etc.).

It is worth noting that early detection of the cause of inflammation allows the doctor to prescribe effective therapy. The earlier the treatment of adnexitis is started, the less likely it is that scarring will occur in the uterine appendages. As a rule, subacute adnexitis occurs as a result of a mycotic or tuberculous infection (extremely rare). The main principle of treating subacute adnexitis is to eliminate the underlying disease and provide symptomatic treatment.

Treatment of bilateral adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis is usually carried out in a hospital setting. Bilateral inflammation requires a comprehensive approach. In acute cases of the disease, antibacterial drugs (ampicillin, amoxicillin) or a combination of several groups of antibiotics (usually in particularly severe cases) are prescribed. If the causative agent of the inflammation is chlamydia, then tetracycline antibiotics are prescribed, anaerobic bacteria - metronidazole. The course of treatment and dosage is prescribed by the attending physician, usually the course of therapy lasts up to 10 days.

In addition to antibacterial therapy, sedatives, anti-inflammatory, and painkillers are prescribed. During this period, the woman is prescribed bed rest and dietary nutrition.

In chronic bilateral inflammation, physiotherapeutic methods are used; in some cases, surgical intervention is unavoidable; in particular, removal of the fallopian tubes or ovaries may be required.

Treatment of right-sided adnexitis

Right-sided adnexitis resembles appendicitis in its symptoms and it is impossible to do without a professional consultation in this case. The doctor can determine the diagnosis after examination, questioning and ultrasound data, but in some cases all the data may indicate both adnexitis and appendicitis.

If the data obtained is not sufficient to make a diagnosis, it is necessary to determine the localization of pain - with appendicitis, the iliac region hurts, with adnexitis, the pain is concentrated in the lower abdomen and radiates to the lower back. Also, do not completely exclude the possibility of an exacerbation of these two diseases, in this case, the exact cause can only be established after surgery.

Treatment of left-sided adnexitis

Left-sided adnexitis usually occurs for the same reasons as other inflammation in the appendages, so the treatment principle in this case does not change dramatically.

Often adnexitis leads to infertility, so adnexitis treatment cannot be done independently. In addition, it is impossible to make a diagnosis based only on sensations; it is necessary to conduct a number of additional studies to determine the causative agent of inflammation and prescribe effective therapy. With adnexitis, warming the abdomen is contraindicated so as not to provoke an even greater inflammatory process and severe pain (in some cases, an ice compress is recommended).

In case of left-sided inflammation, painkillers, antibacterial and other drugs are prescribed. After the acute symptoms have subsided, treatment begins with physiotherapeutic procedures - electrophoresis, ultrasound, paraffin applications.

Treatment of adnexitis during pregnancy

Inflammation of the appendages in pregnant women is treated only in a hospital setting. First of all, the treatment of adnexitis during pregnancy is aimed not only at suppressing the infection and the inflammatory process in the body, it is very important to prevent the spread of infection through the placental barrier, and this is what is the greatest difficulty in the treatment of pregnant women. However, if the treatment of adnexitis is started in a timely manner, then the woman's chances of normally bearing and giving birth to a healthy child increase.

Antibacterial drugs are prescribed for the treatment of adnexitis, which can be used during pregnancy (it is important to conduct a test for the sensitivity of microorganisms before using the drug). Effective therapy also includes general tonic, anti-inflammatory drugs.

Treatment methods for adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis consists of several basic principles:

  1. Treatment of adnexitis with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, etc. therapy
  2. Physiotherapy
  3. Endoscopy, which is used to cut fused fallopian tubes
  4. Treatment in a sanatorium and resort setting

Also, along with general treatment, local treatment is widely used: ointments, tampons with anti-inflammatory solutions, baths.

Depending on the causative agent of the inflammation, antibacterial therapy may also be prescribed to the sexual partner.

Inflammation of the appendages may be associated with concomitant gynecological diseases (uterine fibroids, endometritis, etc.).

Along with antibacterial therapy, immunostimulating, analgesic and anti-inflammatory therapy is prescribed. To reduce the inflammatory process in the appendages, rectal suppositories containing diclofenac are usually prescribed.

After the acute symptoms of the disease have been relieved and the patient has entered the remission stage, physiotherapy is prescribed: mud therapy, electrophoresis of the lower abdomen, lower back, tampons with medicinal herbs, ultrasound treatment, etc. Recently, hirudotherapy has become increasingly popular, showing quite high results.

Injections for adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis is based on antibacterial therapy. At the beginning of the disease, the doctor may prescribe a course of antibiotics in the form of injections 3 times a day, then antibiotic tablets are prescribed. In addition, the woman is prescribed a course of vitamins, glucose, anti-inflammatory drugs.

In case of inflammation of the appendages, injections are not prescribed in every case. For example, if the course of the disease is latent, then it is quite possible to use antibiotics in the form of tablets.

Douching for adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis, as already mentioned, should be comprehensive. As an adjunctive therapy to drug treatment, you can use douching with decoctions of certain herbs that have anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, healing, etc. effects. For douching, it is recommended to use infusions of chamomile, oak bark, linden, yarrow, eucalyptus.

Treatment of adnexitis with homeopathy

An experienced homeopath will help to cope with almost any disease without using chemicals. Quite often, chronic adnexitis torments women for a long time, periodically worsening and causing a lot of inconvenience and disrupting the quality of life.

Homeopathic treatment of adnexitis is sometimes much more effective than traditional treatment, as it affects the entire body and has no side effects.

However, homeopathic medicines should only be prescribed by an experienced doctor, taking into account the individual characteristics of the woman’s body.

Treatment regimen for adnexitis

For effective therapy, a complete diagnosis is necessary in order to identify the cause of inflammation and the degree of organ involvement in the inflammatory process.

Treatment for adnexitis typically includes:

  • broad-spectrum antibiotics (mainly with a long period of action)
  • enemas with medications
  • suppositories (rectal, vaginal)
  • immunostimulants, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs

After the acute inflammation process has passed, physiotherapy procedures are prescribed. If adhesions form, surgical treatment is recommended.

Drugs for the treatment of adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis is possible with various antibacterial drugs. For more effective treatment, before prescribing a drug, a test is done to determine the susceptibility of microorganisms that caused inflammation in the appendages. The doctor also prescribes painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy procedures. In the acute course of the disease, the doctor may refer for mandatory hospitalization.

The most well-known antibacterial drugs for the treatment of inflammatory processes in the appendages are the following:

  • Erythromycin is the most effective drug that destroys chlamydia and mycoplasmosis. The duration of treatment and the dose are determined by the doctor, taking into account the severity of the disease and the patient's condition. In some cases, erythromycin is replaced by ofloxacin, azithromycin, dioxycillin.
  • metronidazole – used for trichomoniasis (as well as for all sexually transmitted diseases). Based on the diagnostic data, the doctor determines the duration of the course and dosage (the drug is available in tablet form).
  • Ceftibuten is an antibiotic active against a large number of microorganisms, available in capsules. This drug can be replaced by similar ones: cefaclor, cefuroxime.
  • azithromycin (zamax) – prescribed for diseases of the genitourinary system, urethritis (gonorrheal and non-gonorrheal), cervicitis, etc.

For local treatment, vaginal suppositories with antibiotics (fluomizin, movalis, etc.) can be used. In combination with general treatment, the drugs speed up the recovery process and reduce pain.

Trichopolum

The active substance of Trichopolum is mitranidazole, which has an antimicrobial and antiprotozoal effect. Treatment of adnexitis with Trichopolum occurs when anaerobic bacteria are detected. The drug is not used in case of serious disorders of renal and hepatic function, bone marrow, nervous system. The course of therapy with the drug usually lasts no longer than 10 days, if the doctor decides to continue treatment with Trichopolum, then liver function and the state of peripheral blood should be monitored.

Dimexide

Dimexide is an anti-inflammatory drug and also has a local anesthetic effect.

The drug penetrates well through mucous membranes, increases the sensitivity of bacteria to antibacterial drugs. Dimexide has minor toxicity.

Complex treatment of adnexitis, along with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and other drugs, includes tampons with dimexide and novocaine (1:4).

Biseptol

Biseptol is a bactericidal combination drug, available in tablets or intravenous injections. Treatment of adnexitis must necessarily include an antibacterial drug that suppresses and destroys pathogenic microflora. Biseptol is indicated for anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, chlamydia, etc.

Wobenzym

Wobenzym has a general effect on the body: it relieves inflammation, swelling, increases immunity and improves blood circulation. All this makes the drug in demand in the treatment of many gynecological diseases. Wobenzym is often included in the complex treatment of adnexitis. One distinctive feature of Wobenzym is that the drug has the ability to inhibit the growth of connective tissue (prevents the formation of adhesions).

Viferon

In case of viral infection, Viferon is prescribed, which in complex therapy blocks the growth and reproduction of viruses. Treatment of adnexitis caused by the herpes simplex virus, papilloma often occurs with Viferon, which has shown good efficiency. One of the advantages of the drug is that it makes healthy cells immune to viruses.

Metronidazole

Treatment of adnexitis caused by anaerobic microorganisms is carried out using nitroimidazoles. Metronidazole is a drug of this group and has the ability to destroy most anaerobic bacteria. The drug has proven itself in the treatment of the genitourinary system. Metronidazole is available in tablet form, the course of treatment is determined by the attending physician.

Treatment of adnexitis with suppositories

Treating adnexitis solely with suppositories (whether vaginal or rectal) will not bring the desired effect. Suppositories are recommended to be used as part of a comprehensive therapy to alleviate severe symptoms and speed up the recovery process.

Genferon for adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis with the help of anti-inflammatory suppositories Genferon, which also stimulate the immune system, is used as part of complex therapy for inflammatory processes in the female genital organs.

Hexicon for adnexitis

Hexicon suppositories are often used for inflammatory diseases in the appendages. The drug has a minimum number of side effects, and the components of the drug are not absorbed into the blood. Treatment of adnexitis with hexicon is usually carried out for a ten-day course, in some cases the drug can provoke itching and severe allergies.

Longidaza for adnexitis

Complex treatment of adnexitis includes vaginal suppositories (candles), in particular longidaza, which is an enzyme complex that prevents the adhesion process.

Painkillers for adnexitis

Painkillers are prescribed for severe pain. Local painkillers (suppositories, ointments) have a good effect. Rectal suppositories diclofenac, which is absorbed quite quickly after administration, will help reduce inflammation and pain. When entering the blood, diclofenac has a general effect on the body: it relieves pain, relieves inflammation, and reduces fever.

Indomethacin for adnexitis

Indomethacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has proven itself in the treatment of gynecological diseases.

The drug is available in the form of rectal suppositories.

Indomethacin is a good pain reliever and anti-inflammatory, and has an antipyretic effect. Indomethacin is contraindicated in ulcers, liver and kidney dysfunction, and during pregnancy.

Complex treatment of adnexitis includes the use of anti-inflammatory suppositories, in particular indomethacin.

Treatment of adnexitis at home

Treatment of adnexitis, or rather prevention of the chronic form, can be carried out using traditional medicine.

Aloe and cabbage juice are considered effective in this case. A tampon is soaked in the plant juice and placed in the vagina overnight, the course of therapy is two weeks. Tampons with Vishnevsky ointment also help to avoid exacerbations (the course of treatment is two weeks).

Treatment of adnexitis, provided that the disease is detected at an early stage, is not difficult. In this case, it is important to undergo diagnostics and determine the cause of the disease and not to stop treatment after the acute manifestations of the disease subside. Otherwise, adnexitis can become chronic, which threatens serious health problems.

In the development of chronic adnexitis, various physiotherapy procedures are recommended (UHF, ultrasound, electrophoresis, etc.).

In case of frequent exacerbations, spa treatment is recommended (mineral baths, mud therapy, etc.).

In addition to prevention, it is important to eat properly and nutritiously, lead an active lifestyle, and not get too cold.

Physiotherapy for adnexitis

Treatment of adnexitis with physiotherapeutic procedures plays a significant role in the prevention of the adhesive process. Procedures are prescribed after the removal of acute symptoms of the disease, in the subacute stage, in the chronic process. In modern therapy, the leading place is occupied by electrotherapy, which is prescribed taking into account the clinical manifestations of the disease.

Electrophoresis for adnexitis

During electrophoresis, a certain medicinal substance is introduced under the skin under the influence of direct current. Up to 10% of the medicine enters the body through a pad soaked in the solution (depending on age, current density, solvent used, etc.).

Treatment of adnexitis with electrophoresis is recommended after the acute inflammation process has subsided. The procedure has resolving, analgesic and anti-edematous properties.
