The ovaries in the female reproductive system are “conceived” by nature as a kind of bank of material necessary for the origin of a new life. Eggs, which merge with spermatozoa during conception, are generated in this organ of the female pelvis. The ovaries also perform an endocrine function, as they produce sex hormones. Sometimes, sacs of different diameters (up to 20 cm) with thin walls filled with liquid, called cysts, form on the surface of the ovaries. The formation of cysts is often caused by stagnant processes in the pelvis due to inflammation and hormonal imbalances. Treatment of cysts can be both conservative and surgical, depending on the nature of the disease and the degree of damage to the organ. In conservative treatment of cysts, along with the main treatment, suppository treatment is also used, mainly to relieve inflammation and for preventive purposes.

Indications ovarian cyst suppositories

Since one of the factors causing cysts is inflammation of the pelvic organs, anti-inflammatory suppositories are used to treat it. They consist of enzymes that dissolve adhesions, thrombi, pus, and blood clots. They are administered rectally, the dose and duration of the course of treatment are determined by the doctor individually.

In case of hormonal imbalances (often excess estrogen, with a lack of progesterone), hormonal vaginal suppositories are used. Progesterone is the main active substance, a hormone that normalizes hormonal levels, which leads to a reduction in cystic formations and reduces the risk of complications.

To restore the vaginal microflora after treating inflammation with antibiotics and suppositories, suppositories with lactobacilli are used vaginally.

In case of immune system failures, which can also lead to cystic formations, immunomodulators are prescribed in the form of rectal suppositories.

Dosing and administration

Conservative treatment of cysts involves a comprehensive approach, consisting of the use of anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial and hormonal drugs. Along with tablets and injections, doctors also prescribe suppositories, which are vaginal and rectal (inserted into the rectum).

Suppositories for follicular ovarian cysts

Of all cases of ovarian cysts in women, 80% are follicular. It arises from a follicle that did not rupture during ovulation, which continues to grow due to the fluid inside itself, forming a cyst. Women of any age, from puberty to menopause, are susceptible to this neoplasm. Most often, follicular cysts resolve themselves within a few menstrual cycles. With another variant of the process, serious complications are possible: complete or partial torsion of the ovary, which is fraught with tissue necrosis, and therefore leads to peritonitis; rupture of the follicular cyst (risk of peritonitis); rupture of the ovary (risk of bleeding with a fatal outcome).

In conservative treatment of cysts, medication, physiotherapy and folk methods are used. If there is a need to remove the cyst, the laparoscopy method is used, in case of complications - the traditional surgical method (abdominal incision).

Since follicular cysts occur due to hormonal imbalances, hormonal suppositories are used in drug treatment. One of them is Utrozhestan, the active ingredient of which is the hormone progesterone. The drug is available in capsule form, but can be used vaginally. Anti-inflammatory suppositories are also prescribed. The treatment can be supplemented with homeopathic remedies. In addition to the above-mentioned suppositories, which include propolis, suppositories are also made from an alcohol extract of propolis, fir, juniper, geranium based on cocoa butter. They are used vaginally. Celandine suppositories are used rectally.

Ovarian cysts can also be found in pregnant women. Their appearance is often provoked by serious hormonal changes in the body that occur during pregnancy. The woman's ovaries work hard and this leads to the formation of a functional cyst, which, unlike a pathological one, does not require surgical intervention. Treatment is determined by a doctor, in which the role of suppositories is very limited due to contraindications for most of them.
