What causes pemphigus (pemphigus) of the conjunctiva?

The causes of the development of conjunctival pemphigus have not been fully elucidated. Pemphigus (pemphigus) conjunctiva is associated with a viral infection; have the significance of changes in the central nervous system, sympathetic ganglia, as well as metabolic disturbances and endocrine disorders. In studies of recent years, more and more data on the role of autoimmune mechanisms in the development of pemphigus have been revealed.

Symptoms of pemphigus (pemphigus) of the conjunctiva

There are 4 clinical forms of pemphigus: vulgar, vegetative, leaf-shaped and seborrhoeic. For all forms of pemphigus is characterized by the formation of blisters on the skin and mucous membranes. Bubbles on the hyperemia conjunctiva are easily opened, the exposed surface is covered with a white-grayish coating, bleeding is noted. Scarring erosion leads to wrinkling of the conjunctiva, which turns into a cloudy pale tissue. Evolution of eyelids and trichiasis develop. The cornea is often affected, first there appear superficial ulceration, and then scarring and vascularization. The dryness of the conjunctiva and the cornea progresses as a result of scarring of the ducts of the lacrimal glands. In severe cases, a complete simbelfaron may form.

Treatment of pemphigus (pemphigus) conjunctiva

Treatment with corticosteroids and sulfonamides administered by mouth, does not help in all cases of pemphigus (pemphigus) conjunctiva. Locally appointed glucocosteroids with antibacterial drugs, vaseline oil, fish oil, thiamine ointment, a solution of citral. In some cases, soft contact lenses may be useful.
