Pain in the crown of the head may be a consequence of an injury. If the trauma factor is excluded, the causes of pain may be the following:

  • Hypertension.
  • Hypotension
  • Cluster headaches.
  • Migraine.
  • Cervical osteochondrosis.

What causes pain in the crown of the head?

Staying in the hot sun for too long can also cause pain in the crown of the head, accompanied by chills and nausea. Pain in the crown of the head can also be caused by staying in the cold for too long.

It should also be taken into account that staying in an uncomfortable position for a long time or making a careless or too abrupt movement can also provoke pain in the crown of the head.

For example, for people who spend a lot of time in the country, pain in the crown of the head may be associated with these factors. When working in the garden, a person is forced to stay in an uncomfortable position for a long time, which may cause pain in the crown of the head.

Pain in the crown of the head can also be caused by sitting in front of a monitor for a long time, staying in a noisy or stuffy place for a long time, sudden changes in weather conditions, general fatigue or overexertion. Pain in the crown of the head associated with overexertion can be accompanied by pain in the muscles of the back, neck, shoulders. The nature of the pain is dull, squeezing. To relieve pain, complete relaxation of the body, aromatherapy procedures (using, for example, lavender, lemon balm, mint oil), and acupressure are recommended.

Sharp pressure surges are another fairly common cause that can provoke pain in the crown. If the pressure is low, the pain is often pressing in nature, and can also be felt in the area of the eyes and bridge of the nose, temples, and neck. To improve the condition, drugs containing caffeine are prescribed. It is also recommended to spend more time outdoors to prevent low blood pressure. You can take a tablet of caffeine, askofen, or citramon.

If the pressure is high, the pain in the crown may be combined with dizziness, and the nose may bleed. In the presence of such a pathology, the risk of stroke increases significantly. Diuretics, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, and beta-blockers are used as therapy. Such drugs cannot be prescribed independently, as this can only lead to a worsening of the condition. With a rapid increase in pressure, it would be advisable to take a diuretic, such as triphas, furosemide. You should always have pharmadipine (use no more than 3-4 drops orally) and captopril with you.

Such a pathology as migraine can make itself known in the form of spasmodic or aching pains in the upper part of the head. It can be accompanied by flashing bright spots before the eyes, nausea, and a general deterioration in well-being. There is an opinion that such an ailment can be associated with a genetic predisposition. An attack can last up to several hours. As a treatment, it is possible to prescribe sedalgin, metamizole, sumatriptan, a vitamin-mineral complex.

Cluster pain in the crown is characterized by persistent pain and hyperemia in the eye area, as well as lacrimation. With such symptoms, the patient must lie down. To neutralize the pain, cafergot is used, which increases the tone of the dilated arteries, sumatriptan, lidocaine is administered intranasally in drops. To prevent the disease, you should give up bad habits (alcohol, nicotine), limit stressful situations.

Pain in the crown can be concentrated with flu, colds, respiratory viral infections. In this case, the patient is recommended bed rest, to relieve pain take cold medications - coldrex, fervex, theraflu, rinza, etc., as well as analgin or ibuprofen.

If the pain in the top of your head is caused by an injury and is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or dizziness, seek immediate medical attention, as these signs may be symptoms of a concussion or more serious injuries.

What to do if you have pain in the crown of your head?

If you have pain in the crown of your head, take the most comfortable position for you, preferably lie down on a flat surface - this position will help restore fluid circulation in the body and stabilize the condition. If you suffer from high blood pressure, it is better to put a large pillow under your head. If the pressure is low, you can put a pillow under your legs.

For pain not related to changes in blood pressure, it is recommended to take a painkiller tablet (imet, dexalgin, tempalgin, paracetamol, ibuprofen), perform acupressure, eliminate external irritants - loud sounds, bright lights, and ventilate the room well. For prevention, it is strongly recommended to have a good rest, avoid stress, sleep at least seven to eight hours a day, avoid factors that negatively affect health, such as alcohol, smoking, and eliminate mental and physical overexertion.
