Left kidney pain

Pain in the left kidney is quite difficult to diagnose, as it can easily be confused with pain that occurs in the colon or spleen, located on the left side of the body.
The kidneys perform a very important and necessary function in the human body - the formation of urine. This process occurs in three stages: first, the kidneys work in filtration mode, then comes the turn of reabsorption and, finally, the procedure of urine formation is completed by secretion. When any diseases occur, the activity of these most important organs is disrupted, as a result of which a person experiences pain in the kidneys.
Causes left kidney pain
Pain in the left kidney can be a consequence of chronic inflammatory diseases, for example:
- pyelonephritis (inflammation of the renal pelvis). The disease is characterized by a slight, pressing pain that occurs in the left or right side. Often, pain can be felt on both sides of the body;
- left kidney cancer is a rather serious, polyetiological disease that develops as a result of chemical, hormonal, radiation, immunological, hereditary and other effects and provokes pain in the left kidney. A cancerous tumor of the kidney can be malignant and benign, primary or secondary, that is, independent or "spread" to the kidney from a diseased organ located nearby;
- nephroptosis (drooping) of the left kidney - excessive mobility of this organ. Normally, the limit of kidney mobility is a couple of centimeters. But it happens that the patient suddenly loses weight (usually these are young girls striving for a slim figure) and the organ does not have time to "get into place", hence nephroptosis occurs. It is not difficult to diagnose this unpleasant moment, you just need to contact a doctor who can give a conclusion just by looking at the patient (usually people diagnosed with nephroptosis have a pale complexion and are distinguished by excessive thinness). To confirm the presence of the disease, ultrasound diagnostics, tomography and urography are carried out;
- Urolithiasis is another reason for the development of pain in the left kidney. The disease can occur in a person of absolutely any age and is the formation of stones in the organs of the urinary tract, including the kidneys. The formation of stones occurs due to improper metabolism in the body. The development of the disease is facilitated by the climatic conditions in which a person lives; vitamin deficiency; bone diseases, injuries; lack of ultraviolet rays; geographic factor; diseases of the genitourinary system and kidneys, in particular; severe dehydration of the body; chronic diseases of the intestines and stomach;
- adenoma and fibroma, which are benign tumors of the left kidney;
- hydronephrosis of the left kidney is a disease that occurs when the patency of the ureteropelvic segment is impaired. Urine flows poorly out of the renal pelvis due to the expansion of its cavity system.
