Naso-orbital mucormycosis is a rare opportunistic infection caused by fungi of the family Mucoruceae, usually affecting patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or with suppression of immunity. This aggressive and fatal infection is characterized by the defeat of the upper respiratory tract through inhalation of spores. Hence the defeat passes to the adjacent sinuses, then into the orbit and the brain. The defeat of vessels in the form of occlusive vasculitis leads to ischemic infarctions of orbital tissues.

Nasorbital mucormycosis manifests itself gradually increasing edema of facial tissues and periorbital, diplopia and loss of vision.
