Myelography is a method of investigation of the cerebrospinal fluid system. It is performed by puncturing the subarachnoid space of the spinal cord and introducing a water-soluble contrast agent. Allocate a descending myelography when the puncture of the subspecies is performed at the level of the large occipital cistern (currently used very rarely), and ascending myelophaphy - puncture is performed at the level of the lower lumbar spine. Previously, a widely used method for diagnosing diseases of the spinal cord and spine (tumor, vascular, inflammatory and other processes) with the introduction of MRI was used much less often. Currently, myelofophy is used mainly to clarify the degree of compression of the subarachnoid spaces of the spinal cord with herniated intervertebral discs, in the diagnosis of inflammatory changes in the membranes of the spinal cord, after surgery, when using other methods it is difficult to solve the problem of the presence of tumor recurrence, herniation of the disc, and postoperative cicatrical-adhesive process.
