A popular folk remedy is milk with onions for cough. Its effectiveness lies in the biological value of the products and their effect on the body.

Onion is a vegetable that contains vitamins, minerals, organic acids, dietary fiber, essential oils and tannins. It is actively used in the treatment of bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchial asthma.

Useful properties of onions:

  • Antiseptic.
  • Antimicrobial and antiviral.
  • Antiallergic.
  • Expectorants.
  • General tonic.
  • Immunostimulating.

The main benefit of the onion-milk drink lies in its bactericidal and antiseptic properties. The drink warms the mucous membrane of the bronchi and trachea, suppresses pathological coughing fits, and prevents damage to the tissues of the mucous tract.

Folk recipes with milk and onions for cough

  • Take a large onion, peel it, chop it with a blender or grate it on a fine grater. Squeeze out the onion juice. Add a couple of drops of onion extract to a glass of warm milk.
  • Peel two medium-sized onions, cut into 4 pieces and pour a glass of milk over them. The remedy should be boiled over low heat until the onion is completely soft. Then the drink should be wrapped up and left to infuse until cool. Strain, add honey or sugar to improve the taste and take 1 spoon every hour.

This medicine should be taken at the initial stages of inflammatory lesions of the respiratory tract, as well as during attacks of dry cough. If the disease turns into a wet form, then the therapy should be stopped. It is also necessary to take into account the presence of contraindications for treatment: hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, lactose intolerance, diabetes mellitus, renal failure, obesity.

Milk with garlic for cough

An additional effective remedy for colds is milk with garlic for coughs. Garlic is valued for its expectorant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, and milk relieves pain, minimizing coughing fits.

Consuming garlic with milk has a positive effect on the body:

  • Reduces pain.
  • Has an anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Has a beneficial effect on the nervous system.
  • Reduces blood cholesterol levels and detoxifies the body.

The following recipes are most often used for treatment:

  1. Take 1 head of garlic and a couple of large heads of onion, 500 ml of milk, 100 g of linden honey and mint juice. Grind the garlic until it becomes mushy. Peel the onion and pour in the milk, put it on low heat and boil until the vegetable component softens. Then add the crushed garlic, honey and mint juice to the remedy. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until they are completely dissolved. Take 1 tablespoon every hour during the day.
  2. Take a head of garlic, peel it and pour a glass of milk over it. Boil for 3-5 minutes, cool and strain. Add a tablespoon of honey and take ¼ glass 3-4 times a day.
  3. Place 100 g of crushed garlic in a half-liter jar and pour in 150 ml of vodka. Place the container in a dark, cool place and let it brew for 10-14 days. Strain the tincture and dilute 25 drops per glass of warm milk. The tincture should be taken 3 times a day.

Before treatment, it should be taken into account that garlic has certain contraindications for use. The remedy is prohibited for gastritis, pancreatitis, during pregnancy and lactation, stomach ulcers.
