Causes of itchy dermatitis
Factors influencing the development of the disease are hidden in the presence of genetic problems of the body. Dermatitis can be caused by both acquired and provoked factors.
So, remote causes. They are mainly related to a person's genetic predisposition. Why this happens is still unknown. But the disease progresses, so dermatitis occurs in almost 30-50% of cases in babies, of course, if the parents have this disease. However, people with an atopic form, in almost 70% of cases acquired it without the participation of their parents in this process. That is, they did not have an allergy.
Only the acquired type of allergy has evidence. It can arise due to weak immunity, the presence of unfavorable environmental factors. These may include mental anxiety, physical health problems, and unfavorable living conditions.
There are so-called close causes. These include unfavorable factors, under which the body begins to develop inflammation of the skin. This can be caused by ordinary stress. It is a protective and adaptive reaction of the body. It is characterized by the release of energy under the influence of hormones. This leads to the development of the problem.
People who are constantly exposed to unfavorable factors suffer from this inflammation. It can be caused by excessive sun exposure, too high or low temperatures, as well as allergens that a person comes into contact with.
There are also optional factors. These include some allergens. These can be animals, food, medications, cosmetics, and even insect bites. Therefore, in order to choose a good treatment, it is necessary to determine the exact cause of the skin allergy.
Pathogenesis
The development of this skin allergic reaction consists of hypersensitivity. As a rule, the first signs appear within 2 days after direct contact with the allergen. This process is triggered by special T-lymphocytes.
Langersans cells play a huge role in pathogenesis. They provoke the development of the so-called barrier. In addition, the cells are a powerful source of mediators. In fact, they simply provoke the inflammatory process. When an allergic reaction is provoked, the formation of lymphoid-macrophage infiltrate begins.
As for the immune alteration phase, it can damage the endothelium. This in turn leads to capillary thrombosis. Circulation is disrupted. The skin begins to lose its functionality. Contact with an allergen can lead to the development of serious complications. Dermatitis often develops into an acute stage of eczema.
As soon as the allergen is eliminated, the allergic reaction stops. This can happen in different ways. Low-molecular substances are actively eliminated from the body through the capillaries. As for large-molecular substances, they are excreted through the lymph nodes.
Symptoms of pruritic dermatitis
All types of dermatitis are closely related to allergies and inflammations. They can occur in both acute and chronic forms. Sometimes they manifest seasonally. In this case, the main emphasis is on high-quality treatment of the disease.
There are a number of symptoms that characterize the presence of a problem. Thus, most dermatitis begins to manifest itself with debilitating itching. Its intensity depends entirely on the allergen. Thus, with the atopic form of the disease, the itching is very strong, and it is accompanied by rashes. If the dermatitis is contact, then the affected area is damaged.
In addition to itching, redness also actively manifests itself. At the site of interaction with the allergen, blood filling of the capillaries occurs. If an acute form of inflammation is observed, it is also accompanied by significant swelling. Sometimes the affected area begins to turn pale. Many people confuse redness with hemorrhage under the skin. These are completely different things. Hemorrhage is a separate pathology.
Often a severe rash occurs. Its main location is the area in contact with the allergen. The rash usually affects the groin area, elbows and face.
Exudation. Characterized by severe inflammation, which is accompanied by abundant secreted particles. If the course is severe, cracks appear on the skin. A person can scratch the affected area until it bleeds. Peeling of the skin. This occurs due to excessive dryness. Usually, this is affected by degradation and poor functioning of the sebaceous glands.
First signs
In principle, the symptoms are the same everywhere. A person notices a slight redness and often confuses it with ordinary irritation. Without making any attempts to get rid of it, he allows the problem to develop further. Then itching appears, accompanied by a pronounced burning sensation, and pain is often encountered.
If a person does not pay attention to this, the disease begins to progress. Thus, small bubbles appear, which subsequently begin to burst. Moreover, it is not necessary to act on them in any way for this to happen. As a result, wet wounds appear. What is the danger? From now on, any infection can penetrate the body through them. Sometimes necrosis develops, scars form. Therefore, it is important to identify the first signs.
It is not that difficult to do. Pay attention to the peeling of the scalp, the presence of spots on the skin. You cannot miss the coin-shaped papules, the size of which reaches 2 centimeters. Itching, redness and deterioration of hair are also the main signs of the disease.
Acute pruritic dermatitis
This form of the disease proceeds almost the same way as eczema. Therefore, many specialists believe that eczema and dermatitis are synonyms of each other. In any case, it is accompanied by severe itching, which can lead to complications. If a person does not control himself, it is quite possible to scratch the affected area until it bleeds.
A severe rash is observed. If the inflammation phase is acute, then together with the lesion the skin acquires a red tint. The intensity of the color can be varied. It is quite easy to notice the problem. Often blisters develop that tend to burst. Therefore, the surface becomes wet.
As soon as the blisters are opened, they begin to dry. As a result, serous crusts are formed. As a result, the skin begins to peel, perhaps this is the last stage. If a person is bothered by a chronic form of the disease, the skin tone can be varied. Moreover, it becomes rough and hard to the touch. Nails can also change, sharply thicken or thin. It is important to identify the allergen in time and eliminate contact with it.
Subacute pruritic dermatitis
This is probably one of the most unpleasant courses of the disease. A person is constantly bothered by a terrible itch, everything itches, and relief never comes. The skin is overdried, so it is not very pleasant to constantly scratch it. And such an action leads to severe inflammation. This is a really difficult situation.
Most often, such a course is caused by a hereditary cause of the disease. Basically, everything develops against the background of an existing rash on the skin, asthma, and even hay fever. If you start monitoring the course of an allergic reaction from childhood, the symptoms can be weakened. This will allow a person to feel more comfortable. Exacerbations can be observed during puberty. A person feels bad, the symptoms are intensified.
If the problem has appeared in an adult, it is not easy to determine the allergen. Usually, highly qualified specialists deal with this issue. If during attacks of itching, the person becomes nervous, the symptoms intensify, the disease begins to actively progress. Therefore, worries will have to be put aside, otherwise the discomfort will be complete. Naturally, you need to resort to high-quality treatment.
Chronic pruritic dermatitis
This type of dermatitis can occur at any age. Naturally, it is impossible to get rid of it, because it is chronic. Symptoms will periodically make themselves known, but this is bearable. However, it is worth noting the fact that this form is divided into two more types, active and passive.
When the disease starts to progress, the person has a hard time. At first, a slight redness appears, outwardly it looks like irritation. The person does not immediately have time to understand that he has dermatitis. Then the redness acquires small blisters with liquid. They begin to itch a lot. Naturally, the person cannot resist this process and scratches them until the liquid comes out. As a result, wounds appear.
This type of skin allergic reaction can occur against the background of severe stress. It can be provoked by chemicals. What can I say, even ordinary household products and cosmetics can easily provoke inflammation. Some people do not observe personal hygiene sufficiently, for which they get dermatitis in all its glory. It can occur in different forms. Everything depends on the person.
Generalized pruritic dermatitis
This is a very severe inflammation. It can cover almost the entire surface of the skin. This leads to severe redness and peeling. It is difficult for a person to cope with the problem on their own. Every part of their body itches. It is unbearable.
This condition can be provoked by some medications. These include penicillins, isoniazid and sulfonamides. In some cases, this is a consequence of an existing disease. Usually, dermatitis is provoked by its atopic form, contact, and also psoriasis. Some lymph nodes characterized by malignant inflammation often lead to the development of an allergic reaction on the skin. But, unfortunately, it is not so easy to identify the true cause.
The symptoms are pronounced. The disease can develop both quickly and slowly. It is characterized by redness of the entire skin surface. It becomes thick, rough and scaly. Crusts often form. All this is accompanied by severe itching. Some people note an increase in temperature, while others constantly feel cold. All this occurs due to inflammation and a large loss of fluid.
Itchy dermatitis on the hands
On the hands, this disease manifests itself in the same way as on other parts of the body. A pronounced symptom is a strong judgment, sometimes it is obsessive. Sometimes it is simply impossible to tolerate and a person involuntarily scratches everything.
All this leads to the appearance of redness. Often, abrasions form. Dermatitis is usually characterized by the appearance of blisters on the affected area. So, during intense scratching, they burst and the liquid flows out. Thus, a person is dangerous to others, as he is able to infect them. The skin is a wet wound. After which the blisters dry out, forming rough crusts. The skin itself becomes rough.
During intense scratching, a person can harm themselves. After all, the resulting wounds can easily "absorb" any infection. This will lead not only to increased symptoms, but also to the addition of signs of acute infectious inflammation. Severe itching can affect a person's mental state. After all, sometimes it is truly impossible to tolerate.
Itchy dermatitis on the legs
This disease leaves behind a lot of discomfort. The skin is very itchy, and for those around you, this is not a very pleasant sight. But, it is much easier to treat the disease on the legs. After all, hands are constantly involved in some kind of work, they are constantly washed and are subject to other influences. It is much easier with legs, however, you cannot even use ordinary soap to rinse them.
Perhaps the most unpleasant thing is that the rash can appear on the feet. It becomes uncomfortable for a person to move. When walking, the victim constantly feels severe discomfort. And the risk of getting an infection increases many times over. Therefore, you can't really walk.
With dermatitis, the skin begins to dry out and peel. This process leads to severe itching. If blisters develop, the problem is even more complicated. They begin to burst and the risk of wounds and subsequent infection is incredibly high.
The problem may arise with direct contact with an allergen. This role is played by cosmetics, detergents and chemicals. Dermatitis can develop even if an allergen enters the body through food. Stress can also provoke it, and severe nervous tension during an existing problem only aggravates the situation.
What's bothering you?
Consequences and complications
Simple dermatitis is not capable of bearing any consequences. Usually it proceeds calmly. But if the effect of the allergen was too strong, necrosis is possible. The affected areas of the skin begin to die, this requires their removal. It will be necessary not only to diligently treat the problem, but also to resort to skin transplantation.
The consequences include the penetration of infections into the body. Dangerous microorganisms begin to actively progress, due to the fact that the barrier functions of the skin are impaired. In addition to infections, the presence of dermatitis can lead to the emergence of mental disorders. Because not everyone can tolerate constant itching and discomfort. This condition is fraught with the development of nervous diseases.
If a person suffers from an allergic form of dermatitis, then he may experience allergic reactions in the respiratory and digestive organs. Often, everything ends with the development of ulcers, pyoderma and abscesses. Therefore, it is important to start eliminating problems in time.
Usually, dermatitis is not capable of leading to any serious complications. But, much depends on its course and the person himself. The disease proceeds independently and does not affect any systems. But, the probability of complications still exists. Thus, tissue necrosis is possible. This is a serious complication requiring long-term treatment. In most cases, it is impossible to do without skin grafting.
If a person scratches the blisters on the skin hard, an infection can get into them. This will lead to a strong inflammatory process. This occurs because the skin does not perform its protective functions. Pathogenic bacteria have full access to the wounds and penetrate deep.
Chronic dermatitis with pronounced symptoms can lead to a disorder of a person's mental state. This provokes the development of nervous diseases. Finally, an allergen penetrating inside can lead to the development of ulcers and damage many systems and organs. On the one hand, there may be no complications, on the other hand, they will be pronounced.
Diagnosis of pruritic dermatitis
Diagnostic methods are combined. In order to diagnose dermatitis in a person, some tests will have to be carried out. First of all, they begin to question the patient. He must tell the doctor how long ago dermatitis began to bother him, or rather its first manifestations. It is important to find out how it began, with what symptoms. Then a visual examination of the patient begins. It is important to examine his skin for inflammation and blisters. Then anamnesis is collected for a possible allergen that led to this problem.
Anamnesis data is collected. It includes the patient's bad habits, what he does, where he works, whether any of his relatives have this disease. An objective examination includes an examination for rashes, color changes. After which the patient is sent for a blood test.
Scarification tests play a huge role in diagnostics. The most common allergens are applied to a person's skin and a response is expected. To do this, the skin is scratched using special scarifiers. Sometimes the allergen is introduced under the skin.
Tests for itchy dermatitis
To confirm the presence of this disease, it is necessary to pass a series of tests. So, first of all, serological tests are carried out. They allow to determine the level of immunoglobulins E in the blood serum. A test with the introduction of acetylcholine under the skin is also done. It is necessary to expose the skin to the effects of allergens and look at the reaction.
The skin can also be examined for the presence of immunoglobulin A, a test with iodine is performed. It is important for the skin to interact with a possible allergen and see how it reacts to it. Attention is also paid to the inhibition of leukocyte migration. An analysis is carried out for the reaction of specific rosette formation. Histological tests are also important. All this allows you to determine changes in the skin and diagnose the presence of a problem. For a complete picture, a general blood test is taken. A complete list of diagnostic procedures is given by the doctor after communication and visual examination of the patient.

Instrumental diagnostics
In this case, scarification tests are considered instrumental diagnostics. Usually, adults undergo them in the forearm area. If children need to undergo the procedure, then in the upper back.
This diagnostic method is completely painless. To perform it, you need to take a special needle or lancet. Thanks to them, you can carefully scratch a person, a slight violation of the integrity of the skin is mandatory. Scratches are made at a distance of 4-5 cm from each other. It is desirable that they bleed. The person feels slight discomfort, there is no pain.
The affected area is treated with a 70% alcohol solution. After that, an allergen is applied to the skin. Usually, this is histamine or glycerin. The examination can begin 15 minutes after application. If a person has an allergic reaction, the skin will turn red and swell significantly. Outwardly, it looks like a mosquito bite. Sometimes the size is larger, the affected area is characterized by severe redness and even the appearance of a blister. This confirms the presence of dermatitis.
Differential diagnostics
This diagnostic method includes laboratory tests. First of all, the person needs to be questioned for the presence of certain symptoms. Find out what he does, what his work is related to, whether any of his close people have dermatitis. Then find out how long ago the symptoms appeared, whether there was contact with a foreign object. After all, it could have provoked an allergic reaction.
The person is then sent for a general blood test. This can reveal the number of leukocytes in the blood, as well as eosinophils. The latter are a type of leukocyte. Their main function is to produce substances that can provoke an allergic reaction.
Actively examines blood for the presence of IgE antibodies (immunoglobulin class E). They are responsible for the development of an allergic reaction. In addition, skin testing is carried out. In many cases, this is quite sufficient to make a diagnosis.

Treatment of itchy dermatitis
Treatment of this disease should begin with the complete elimination of the irritating factor. After which complex therapy is selected. Naturally, the person's condition, as well as the stage of development of the disease, should be taken into account. The severity of the inflammatory process also plays a major role.
Basically, a drug solution to the problem is actively used. Usually, they resort to systemic or local therapy. In case of systemic elimination, a person takes tablets in different forms. This can be either intravenous administration or taking capsules orally. Drugs that remove toxins from the body are actively used. Activated carbon has an excellent effect. It is easy to use, one tablet per 10 kg of weight. A specialist must prescribe histamine blockers. These include Clemastine, Promethazine and Diphenhydramine. Naturally, a special role is given to B vitamins, they have a positive effect on strengthening the immune system. Taking any medication is carried out in consultation with a doctor.
In addition to traditional medicine, non-traditional medicine is also actively used. Many folk methods have proven themselves to be the best. However, nothing can be used without consulting a dermatologist. More details about treatment methods will be described below.

Homeopathy
At all stages of dermatitis manifestation, homeopathic remedies are actively used. They allow to normalize the functional state of the body and lead to the elimination of the disease. Therapy of acute exacerbation should include drainage agents. Everything depends on the nature of the rash. If spots have appeared, Belladonna, Sepia, Lycopodium will help to get rid of them. With papules, Kaliyod, Thuja and Petroleum will have a positive effect. If blisters have appeared, then Cantharis. With vesicles, Causticum, Sepia, Hepar sulfur. With blisters - Apis, Sulfur.
Thus, a specific medication is selected for each skin lesion. However, this should be done exclusively with a homeopath. No information about the medications is provided for this purpose. They should be prescribed individually, according to a special scheme. Homeopathy is not as safe as it may seem. The plants included in the medications can, on the contrary, provoke an exacerbation.
Surgical treatment
Surgical treatment is advisable only for atopic dermatitis. This will not only remove the affected areas, but also prevent further aggravation of the problem. This type of disease originates from deep childhood. Therefore, the patient knows very well what feature it has and is ready to constantly resort to the help of certain measures.
First of all, it is advisable to eliminate the allergen, this will partially cope with the problem. Then special drugs with antihistamine action are prescribed. Usually these are Suprastin and Dimedrol. The exacerbation must be eliminated competently.
Sometimes, dermatitis can lead to serious complications, such as necrosis. In this case, surgical intervention is also used. The affected areas should be removed. Sometimes, tissue transplantation is also used. Therefore, surgical intervention is applicable for dermatitis.

Prevention
Today, there are many effective methods that help fight any inflammation of the skin. Competent treatment allows you to get rid of many problems in the future. Therefore, it is important to diagnose the problem at an early stage and prevent it in time. Prevention is always better than the treatment itself.
To prevent the development of the disease, you should simply follow safety precautions. And you need to do this not only in the work environment, but also at home. It is advisable to regulate the room temperature, handle poisonous plants carefully. It is necessary to completely exclude contact with possible irritants. If the problem becomes serious, seek help from a doctor.
It is important to follow the correct diet. Allergens can enter the body with food and thus affect the inflammation of the skin. If a person constantly suffers from allergic reactions, it is worth taking special medications. This will not only bring him to his senses, but also prevent the problem from getting worse.
Forecast
It is worth noting that the prognosis for this disease is quite favorable. However, if the lesion occurred in childhood or adolescence, it is not so easy to adapt to the presence of the problem. And if you do not start timely elimination, it is possible that a chronic course will develop.
It is characterized by constant manifestation of pronounced symptoms. This is especially pronounced during periods of exacerbation. It is impossible to cure a chronic disease. It is necessary to simply maintain your own condition. It is important to endure the period of acute exacerbation. After all, a severe lesion with the introduction of infection can lead to infection. This may entail the removal of affected areas and transplantation of new tissues. In this case, the prognosis may be both favorable and unfavorable. Everything depends on how the new tissue takes root.
What the prognosis will be depends on the patient himself. If he reacts to the exacerbation process in time, consults a doctor and follows his recommendations, then everything will end well.
