Givalex belongs to the group of antiseptics. Its medicinal activity is associated with the action of 3 active elements.

Hexetidine has an antibacterial effect against various gram-negative and -positive bacterial strains (anaerobes and aerobes). [1]

Choline salicylate is used to treat diseases in the oral cavity.

Chlorobutanol can be used in otolaryngology (rinsing or nasal drops) and dentistry (irrigation or application). It can also be used as an anesthetic.

The active components are fixed on the oral mucosa, from which they are gradually released further.

Indications Givalex

It is used for the local treatment of infections of the oral cavity  (gingivitis, stomatitis ), as well as after performing dental operations.

Release form

The release of the medication is realized in the form of a 125 ml bottle (the kit also includes a 50 ml dosing cup).

Pharmacodynamics

Antimycotic and antibacterial effect. [2]

Heksetidine has a bacteriostatic effect against aerobic strains; the bactericidal effect is rather weak (it is expressed against anaerobes). The principle of action is associated with competitive activity with thiamine: its structure is similar to the thiamine structure required for bacterial growth. [3]

Anti-inflammatory effect.

Choline salicylate has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Analgesic effect.

Chlorobutanol has analgesic effects.

Dosing and administration

Use for local mouthwash (rinsing). To carry out one mouth rinse procedure, you need to pour the medicinal liquid into a dosage glass to an indicator of 10 ml, and then add warm water to it (up to an indicator of 50 ml). You can also dilute 2 teaspoons of Givalex in warm plain water (¼ cup).

2-4 rinses are performed per day. It is prohibited to swallow the medicinal substance. The therapeutic cycle lasts 5 days.

  • Application for children

It is forbidden to use the medication in persons under the age of 6.

Use Givalex during pregnancy

There is no information as to whether hexetidine can cross the placenta and be excreted in breast milk, which is why Givalex is not prescribed for breastfeeding and pregnancy.

Contraindications

The main contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to the elements of the drug;
  • pharyngitis of an atrophic nature;
  • BA or other lesions of the respiratory tract caused by the existing hypersensitivity of the respiratory ducts.

Side effects Givalex

Among the side signs:

  • immune lesions: symptoms of intolerance, including Quincke's edema, urticaria, bronchial spasm and laryngospasm;
  • problems with the work of the NS: dysgeusia and ageusia, as well as taste disturbance for a period of 48 hours (the taste of "sweet" changes to the taste of "bitter");
  • disorders associated with the organs of the sternum and mediastinum, as well as with the respiratory system: dyspnea and cough;
  • digestive disorders: dysphagia, the appearance of pain during the process of swallowing, xerostomia and an increase in the size of the salivary glands. Swallowing the medication can cause problems with the digestive tract (usually vomiting with nausea);
  • lesions of the subcutaneous layer and epidermis: contact form of dermatitis, which is of an allergic nature, and epidermal symptoms (rashes);
  • local manifestations: a temporary change in the shade of the tongue, as well as teeth, hypersensitivity of the mucous membrane (feeling of numbness and burning), irritation (itching, pain and feeling of heat) of the oral mucosa or tongue, inflammation, weakening of sensitivity, and besides this, paresthesia in the mucous membrane, the appearance vesicles, the development of ulcers on the mucous membrane, perspiration, dryness of the throat / nasal mucosa and swelling in the contact area.

Overdose

The likelihood of developing acute poisoning is very low. If a child accidentally takes a large dosage of drugs inside, alcohol poisoning may develop, since the medication contains ethanol.

If the medication is swallowed by a child, seek immediate medical attention. It is possible to perform gastric lavage within 2 hours from the moment of ingestion and to carry out procedures that help eliminate the symptoms of alcohol poisoning.

Interactions with other drugs

It is forbidden to combine Givalex with substances that contain antiseptics.

Alkaline solutions can inactivate hexetidine.

Storage conditions

Givalex must be kept in a place closed from the penetration of small children. Temperature indicators - no more than 25 ° С.

Shelf life

Givalex can be applied within a 1.5-year term from the date of manufacture of the pharmaceutical substance.
