Rubrofitia (rubromycosis) is a common chronic mycosis of the skin of the trunk and extremities, nails and gun hair, caused by the fungus red trichophyton (Trichophyton rubrum).
Infection occurs by contact with a sick person, carrier or through shoes and objects from patients. In clearly delineated foci of skin lesions, small pink foci, vesicles, crusts appear. In the scales, the filaments of the branching septate mycelium are detected, less often arthrospores.
In pure culture of Trichophyton rubrum, septate thin branched filaments of mycelium, accumulations of pyriform, oval microconidia and elongated macroconidia (6x50 μm) are seen. With aging of the fungus, chlamydospores appear.
