Back pain is mainly caused by diseases of the spine itself – osteochondrosis, osteoporosis, scoliosis, congenital defects of the spinal column, its inflammation, injuries and neoplasms. Most often, destructive or inflammatory processes are localized in the most loaded part of it – the lower back. Most complaints are associated with lumbar pain. With hypermobility of the vertebrae, pain is often localized in the cervical region.
Back pain can be observed in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, heart disease and genitals. Muscle stiffness, tension in the spine and diffuse rather than localized pain can be a symptom of neurosis.
Back pain after stroke
People who have suffered a stroke often suffer from back pain. After a stroke, patients experience difficulties with coordination of movements, movement in space, their muscles are weakened, their limbs are numb, and the functions of the musculoskeletal system are seriously impaired. Due to the weakness of muscle tissue and the hypoxia suffered, osteochondrosis develops, vertebral hernias, arthrosis or arthritis of the spine appear, accompanied by back pain. A person learns to walk again, overcoming pain.
In the early post-stroke period, measures to prevent the occurrence of back pain are the following:
- the patient should lie on a comfortable bed that does not sag under the weight of the body;
- the patient's spine must be straight in any position; its curvature must not be allowed;
- in a sitting position there should be no noticeable pressure on the lower back, one shoulder should not be higher than the other;
- every two to four hours it is necessary to change the patient's body position;
- the patient is recommended to engage in early physical activity - it is necessary to tense different muscle groups even in a lying position;
- when the patient is seated, it is necessary to ensure that his body is in a balanced position - an even distribution of weight on both buttocks;
- When the patient can stand up, you need to help him stay in an upright position, maintaining a straight posture for at least a few minutes a day.
To prevent painful spasms of the back muscles, the patient is prescribed a relaxing and later a toning massage.
Heat treatments can help promote muscle relaxation and reduce back pain.
When the patient can move freely, he is prescribed a course of therapeutic exercise.
All procedures – massage, physiotherapy, therapeutic exercises – must be prescribed by a doctor and must be carried out under the supervision of a specialist.
In case of severe pain, drug therapy is prescribed.

Back pain after heart attack
The large number of internal organs in the thoracic zone and the close location of the vascular-nerve structures leads to the crossing of zones of sensitivity of pain signals from the internal organs. Therefore, the appearance of sharp pain behind the sternum, similar to heart pain, but from the back, can be provoked by various conditions. However, if such pain occurs in a person who has already suffered one myocardial infarction, then this is an alarming symptom that can be a harbinger of a repeated infarction.
Cardialgia is pain of cardiac origin; during a heart attack, it is reflected in the left arm, shoulder blade and lower jaw.
An attack of angina, considered a pre-infarction condition, is characterized by cramping stabbing pain on the left side of the back, shoulder blade, and back of the arm. This is usually preceded by physical exertion.
Pain associated with a dissecting aortic aneurysm is characterized by constancy, strength, cutting, and radiating to the back.
In elderly people, those suffering from scoliosis, and diabetics, heart pain is most often felt from the back.
Acute cardiovascular pain (pre-infarction and myocardial infarction) usually occurs suddenly. Even if it is felt in the back, it is on the left side. Accompanied by increased heart rate, severe shortness of breath, fainting, and a feeling of fear of death.
In people who have had a myocardial infarction, back pain may be a symptom of other diseases that are not related to the heart - osteochondrosis, intercostal neuralgia, trauma, esophageal diseases, however, given the high probability of a repeated infarction, with such symptoms you need to urgently call an ambulance.

Back pain after stress
Among modern city dwellers, especially those working in offices and experiencing a lack of physical activity: at work - we sit, home - we go, then we go up in the elevator and after dinner - on the couch, the risk of back pain due to an emotional breakdown or a long-term depressed state is widespread. Even if someone visits a gym or a swimming pool two or three times a week - this is not enough to compensate for the stress on the nervous system of our contemporary.
Psychotherapists believe that most back pain is caused by stressful situations that we find ourselves in with enviable regularity, ceasing to even notice them. They explain this reaction of the body to stress factors simply - at the level of instincts, it is inherent in us, upon sensing danger, to pull our heads into our shoulders and shrink, trying to seem to decrease in size, to become less noticeable. Because of this, the muscles of the neck and back, often being in a compressed state, spasm. Over time, back pain begins, and later - osteochondrosis develops. Such pain cannot be dealt with only by playing sports, although this is certainly necessary.
Currently, there is so-called body-oriented psychotherapy. These are classes that teach how to relieve stress pain independently, learn how to react correctly to exciting and unpleasant situations and get out of them with the least loss to health.
Relieving stress with alcohol is not recommended. In fact, it can only make the situation worse.

Back pain after poisoning
The toxic effect of poor-quality products, poisonous substances, alcohol, and medications cannot but affect the functioning of the kidneys. If pain in the lower back appears after poisoning, then one can assume a malfunction of the excretory organ and even the development of renal failure.
Signs of renal dysfunction, in addition to pain, which is not associated with movement and is felt at rest, include: disturbances in emptying the bladder: oliguria, edema, symptoms of intoxication - pallor, nausea, increased heart rate, fluctuations in blood pressure.
The pain is pulsating and bursting in nature, it can be dull and excruciating, spreading across the entire back to the shoulder blades. Symptoms of systemic intoxication will help to distinguish renal pathology from pain in muscles or bones. To establish the cause of this condition, it is recommended to contact a medical institution.
