The cut-off point is considered to be the content of antibodies to gliadin in the blood serum above 15 IU/ml for IgA, and above 35 IU/ml for IgG.

In patients with untreated celiac enteropathy, the concentration of IgA and IgG antibodies to a-gliadin in the blood serum increases significantly (during an exacerbation of the disease - 8-10 times and higher). The sensitivity of determining IgA antibodies for diagnosing enteropathy is 87-100%, specificity - 62-94.5%. Determination of IgG antibodies has greater sensitivity, but less specificity. Detection of antibodies to gliadin in the blood is considered an additional indication for biopsy of the small intestinal mucosa with subsequent morphological examination of the biopsy specimens. Effective treatment is accompanied by a decrease in the concentration of IgA antibodies to normal values in most patients within 3-4 weeks, a decrease in the content of IgG antibodies during this period is less pronounced (remains elevated in 50% of patients).

Elevated serum gliadin antibodies can be detected in 25% of patients with dermatitis herpetiformis and autoimmune diseases.
