The breadth of use of this delicate and fragile flower in both medicine and cosmetology is striking; it successfully decorates our flower beds and front gardens. We prepare decoctions and infusions from chamomile for gargling, take it internally as an antiseptic, treat intestinal spasms, diarrhea, make baths and lotions. The plant extract is included in many cosmetic products, including hair care. And all this is due to its healing properties. [ 1 ]

Indications chamomile for hair

What effect can be achieved by using chamomile? It is used:

  • for lightening hair - it will not have any effect on dark locks, but will give light blond hair a golden hue;
  • to strengthen - achieved through disinfectant properties, reducing inflammation of the skin, improving blood circulation in it;
  • for shine - makes curls smooth, silky, like after a mask or hair conditioner;
  • for hair roots - nourishes the hair follicles with essential nutrients, due to which hair loss is reduced, hair becomes thicker, and growth is more intense;
  • chamomile for gray hair - those with gray hair know how difficult it is to disguise it. A week after dyeing with chemical dyes, it already becomes noticeable at the roots. Natural dyes, which include chamomile, will give your hair an interesting shade that will not completely remove, but will smooth out obvious signs of gray hair, making it an elegant element of age;
  • chamomile for oily hair - combining it with any alcohol component, such as vodka, will reduce the activity of the sebaceous glands;
  • chamomile for dark hair - the plant will not significantly affect the color of dark hair, unless you use it together with lemon juice and for a very long time, but it will provide elasticity, softness, silkiness, shine.

Release form

There are various methods of production and forms of release of chamomile hair products: [ 2 ]

  • chamomile extract - obtained from essential oils of the plant. It can be liquid, dry, alcohol, glycerin, oil, etc. It is added to shampoos, masks, rinses, thanks to which the hair gets rid of dandruff, gains health, is filled with vitality;
  • hair spray "Chamomile" - restores damaged curls, nourishes and moisturizes from the tips to the roots, adds volume without weighing them down, gives softness and elasticity. Suitable for all hair types. Very easy to use: after spraying the roots, rub in with light movements, no need to rinse;
  • chamomile decoction - works well as a rinse after washing: hair shines, looks alive and healthy. It is easy to make yourself: pour 2 tablespoons of flowers into 250 g of water, boil and cook for another quarter of an hour, then strain, dilute to the desired volume;
  • chamomile decoction and vitamin E - effective for hair health, enhancing the effect of the plant decoction with vitamin E. Adding 5 drops of the product will saturate the cells with oxygen, increase blood circulation, and speed up metabolic processes. Under the influence of these components, dry skin disappears, their fragility decreases, and natural protection from ultraviolet rays appears;
  • chamomile infusion for hair - infusions differ from decoctions in that the raw materials are poured with hot or cold water (there are different technologies), given more time to brew. How to make a chamomile infusion? Brew chamomile flowers like tea in a cup, let stand, pour into a liter of water, which will be used for rinsing;
  • chamomile oil - eliminates flaking, relieves irritation, nourishes hair follicles, restoring their functions. Can be used in home care, combining with any base (olive, burdock, castor) and other medicinal essential oils (jojoba, rosemary, lavender);
  • Chamomile hair conditioner - designed to nourish hair with useful substances, protect it from the negative impact of the environment. Different manufacturers, in addition to the plant extract and its essential oil, use other natural plant components, which saturate the hair with the aroma of mown grass, facilitate combing, and remove brittleness. Such balms are especially effective for dry damaged hair;
  • Shampoo for light hair with chamomile - thanks to the plant extract in it, it gives blondes a beautiful reddish shade, and the washing base cleanses and refreshes the strands. Hair after it looks soft, silky and manageable.

Pharmacodynamics

The carriers of the useful biological characteristics of the flower are:

  • chamazulene - a substance with anti-inflammatory and bactericidal action;
  • essential oil - stimulates growth and strengthens hair;
  • coumarins - restore their structure;
  • polysaccharides - perform the function of accumulating moisture in cells;
  • flavonoids - have antioxidant properties;
  • sesquiterpenes - create a protective film on the hair;
  • choline - strengthens curls;
  • mineral salts, carotene, ascorbic acid, organic acids - essential substances for a healthy hair follicle.

This composition determines the benefits of chamomile for hair: it nourishes them, prevents hair loss, gives shine and a beautiful shade.

Does chamomile dry out hair? Quite the contrary, it moisturizes it, helps restore thin and dry hair, and restore its health and strength. [ 3 ], [ 4 ], [ 5 ], [ 6 ]

Dosing and administration

If you were unable to collect chamomile flowers yourself, it is not a problem, it is sold in pharmacies both in bags and loose. When brewing the latter, you will have to strain the decoction, so it is more convenient to use filter bags. How to properly prepare a composition to rinse your hair after washing? There are 2 ways: hot and cold. In the first case, pour a glass of boiling water over a couple of spoons (two bags) and leave for some time to infuse (at least an hour). In the second, you need a glass of raw material or as many bags as there are spoons in a glass and half a liter of cold water. It will take much more time for the herb to give up its beneficial properties, so it is best to do this at night. The resulting solution is diluted with water depending on the effect you need: to get a shade, you will need a higher concentration of the decoction. You can also immediately take the required volume so as not to dilute it later.

Other recipe options using chamomile are given below:

  • chamomile hair mask - add 5 drops of essential oil to any thick base product (kefir, yogurt, sour cream), apply to the entire length of the hair, leave for 20-30 minutes, rinse;
  • nettle and chamomile for hair - combining these 2 most useful plants means giving a powerful therapy to weakened hair prone to hair loss. Nettle is rich in a whole complex of vitamins, including ascorbic acid, carotene, tannin, microelements: calcium, manganese, potassium, iodine. The plant contains tannins, organic acids, phytoncides. Rinsing hair with nettle and chamomile after washing will improve the scalp, give impetus to the growth of new strong curls;
  • chamomile with glycerin for hair - this combination of components is used to lighten them. In addition, glycerin is an excellent moisturizer, gives shine and radiance to the strands. The mask is prepared as follows: chamomile is brewed in a glass and infused. The warm solution is combined with 60 g of 100% glycerin, stirred, moistened clean dry hair and left for 40-60 minutes, then thoroughly rinsed. Two procedures a week will restore brittle and dull curls from the sun or chemical curling;
  • honey and chamomile for hair - a biologically active bee product, which contains more than 400 useful substances, will also serve well for hair. A mask of chamomile infusion with the addition of a teaspoon of honey will help strengthen them, act as a growth stimulator, and nourish them with vitality;
  • Chamomile and aloe are worthy partners in hair care. Aloe moisturizes them well, nourishes, helps to get rid of dandruff, skin damage. It is an effective antioxidant, does not allow toxins to penetrate into the hair and epidermis. For juice, you will need mature leaves, which are crushed and squeezed through gauze into the finished chamomile decoction. The mixture is rubbed into the hair roots;
  • chamomile and lemon - adding lemon juice to the prepared product gives a quick result in lightening hair. This composition "works" especially in the summer on light hair. The sun speeds up the process, resulting in a highlighting effect. It is recommended to pour the composition into a spray bottle and spray it on your hair every time before going outside;
  • burdock oil with chamomile for hair - it is obtained from burdock roots, and its power is such that it can even stop baldness. For a mask, it is enough to combine a spoonful of the product and the same amount of chamomile essential oil. Apply to hair, cover head with polyethylene, a towel on top, leave for an hour. Wash off with warm water and shampoo, then rinse with chamomile decoction. Burdock root can also be added for rinsing, having previously made a decoction from it;
  • chamomile and bay leaf - fight hair loss. This duet stimulates blood circulation in the tissues of the scalp, metabolic processes, has an antifungal, antiseptic effect. Bay leaf is ground in a coffee grinder. Three tablespoons of one and the other raw material are poured with half a liter of hot water, closed with a tight lid and infused for several hours. The composition is rubbed into the hair roots and subsequently not washed off;
  • chamomile and sage for hair - the name of the plant itself means "to be healthy", contains tannins, aromatic resins, flavonoids, acids. It is a strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agent. Its benefit for hair is that its decoctions paired with chamomile make curls elastic, shiny, prevent their loss;
  • chamomile with sugar for hair - this combination is used to straighten hair: put a small spoon of sugar in a glass of chamomile decoction and stir until it dissolves. After that, pour the liquid into a spray bottle and spray it along the entire length of damp hair. Dry with a hair dryer, pulling out the strands with a comb;
  • calendula and chamomile - infusions of this composition are good for oily hair. Calendula normalizes the sebaceous glands of the scalp, effectively cleanses hair, eliminates dandruff, itching, gives it elasticity, silkiness;
  • mint and chamomile - the beneficial properties of one plant intersect with another. Rinsing your hair with their infusions will give a healing effect to brittle split locks, make hair follicles healthier, hair will be thicker, stronger, healthier. In addition, they will be saturated with a pleasant aroma of mint and will exude a magnificent smell and shine;
  • chamomile and henna for hair - this combination is used to give light brown hair a golden color. To prepare the composition, you need to pour henna powder with hot chamomile infusion, stir, and apply to hair after cooling. In addition, henna will benefit your hair, because it contains disinfectant components and B vitamins. This is a good hair conditioning product and volume creation;
  • chamomile and peroxide for lightening hair - their mixture will allow you to make your hair lighter at home. To do this, you will need a glass of chamomile decoction, 30g of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 5 tablespoons of vodka. After mixing the ingredients, wet the curls, leave in this state for half an hour, rinse.

How to dry chamomile for hair?

You can prepare chamomile collection yourself in the summer, then it will bring not only benefits to your hair, but also moral and aesthetic satisfaction. The only caveat is that not every plant has the properties described above, they only apply to medicinal chamomile. It can be recognized by the special shape of the flower: a convex yellow core and petals lowered downwards. During the flowering period, they are plucked, laid out in the fresh air in a place inaccessible to direct sunlight. Dried raw materials are stored either in paper or fabric bags, or in a glass container. Can the plant cause harm? Yes, chamomile can cause allergies. The appearance of itching, redness indicates that this is not your hair care product.

Contraindications

Since all the proposed potions are intended for external use, the only contraindication may be an allergic reaction to the herb or another component of the recipe. This is also associated with possible complications in the form of itching, rashes, and redness of the scalp. The appearance of the hair may also deteriorate. In this case, the use of chamomile and other herbs should be discontinued.

Reviews

There are no universal products suitable for all hair types and features. This is also related to the different reviews: some got the results they expected, others hoped for more. The fact that chamomile has a beneficial effect on hair is its systemic use. A one-time treatment for hair does not work. Many fair-haired women who do not want to resort to chemical hair coloring are happy with the pleasant shade and shine they get.

Analogues

In order to strengthen and improve your hair in a natural way, you can use various medicinal herbs that are suitable for a specific type. For this, you can select whole collections of the following plants: burdock, coltsfoot, rosemary, calendula, nettle, birch leaves, basil, St. John's wort, sage, oregano, mint flowers, lovage and many others that are worthy analogues of chamomile.
