According to the latest statistical information, the highest indicative values characterizing the incidence of the immunodeficiency virus and tuberculosis are registered in the Odessa region. Representatives of the press service of the Center for Public Health of Ukraine announced this trend.

According to data for 2017, the incidence rate of tuberculosis, taking into account newly diagnosed and repeated cases of pathology in the territory of Ukraine, was almost 64 cases per hundred thousand of the population. More than 21 thousand cases of tuberculosis infection were recorded. At the same time, the study of indicative values in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions was not carried out in full, but only in the territory where this could in principle be done - that is, in the zones controlled by the Ukrainian government. Over the past year, a tendency to an increase in the percentage of morbidity was found in the Chernivtsi and Donetsk regions.

Statistics further state that over the past few years, there has been an increase in the incidence of the disease among males: thus, men are sick approximately 2 times more often than women. Incidentally, men have always been infected with tuberculosis more often than women, but these figures have changed periodically. The agency representatives do not indicate an age trend.

The World Health Organization confirms that tuberculosis is one of the top ten leading causes of death among all patients on the planet. For example, in 2016, the disease led to the death of more than 1.6 million people. According to Ukrainian statistics, people with tuberculosis who are not registered by doctors may account for 25% of all patients with this diagnosis. One in four patients with this disease is either insufficiently examined or hides the presence of a dangerous pathology. To date, almost 35 thousand Ukrainians have been registered in dispensaries: among them, about 8 thousand patients suffer from drug-resistant tuberculosis.

World statistics rank Ukraine among the top five countries in the world with the highest percentage of drug-resistant forms of the disease. Representatives of the Ministry of Health claim that the tuberculosis situation in the country is serious, but controllable. The prognosis is worsened by the fact that the disease is most often diagnosed at the final stage, when the patient's chances of recovery are close to "zero". Every year, tuberculosis takes the lives of four thousand Ukrainians - that is, approximately 10-11 patients daily. In the world, more than a million people die from this disease every year.

It has been 25 years since the World Health Organization listed tuberculosis as a global problem. However, this problem still remains without a definite solution.
