Sugary sodas kill more than 180,000 people each year

An annual conference on healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and metabolism was recently held in the USA, where American scientists made a shocking statement. Recent studies have proven that carbonated water – one of the most popular drinks of our time – is deadly for the human body. Drinking sugary water, energy drinks, and carbonated sports drinks leads to the death of a large number of people (more than 180,000 people) every year.
One of the leaders of the study conducted at the Institute of Public Health (Boston) reported that statistics show 25,000 deaths associated with soda consumption in 2010 alone. At the moment, only the causes of death of adults have been studied; the next study will focus on children. Also, the specialists plan to analyze the consumption of sweet drinks by children and track their impact on the body in the future.
The fact that carbonated sweet water is harmful to the body, contributes to excess weight and obesity, provokes diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and causes cancer of internal organs, has been known to society for quite some time. Researchers around the world have repeatedly conducted experiments, the results of which showed the destructive effect of soda. Now the situation is different: sweet drinks are directly "accused" of the deaths of many people.
American scientists analyzed data on fatal cases that occurred in 2010 and received the following results: among lovers of sweet soda in 2010, about 134,000 people with diabetes, more than 44,000 people with heart disease, more than 5,000 patients with various types of cancer died. The data obtained indicate that 78% of these cases were observed in regions with low and middle income.
Later, the researchers analyzed the level of consumption of carbonated drinks around the world, especially in countries that are less economically developed and the effect of sweet water on diabetes, on the occurrence of excess weight. The main goal of the study was to find out whether carbonated drinks can really be considered the cause of death of many people. The results showed that the greatest number of fatal cases caused by the use of sweet water and subsequent diabetes are noted in Latin American countries and on the Caribbean islands. In Russia, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries, the greatest number of deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases are noted. Doctors are sure that the main cause of the development of diseases and subsequent death can be considered carbonated water.
Mexico is a country where the consumption of sugary drinks is considered to be one of the highest in the world. Not surprisingly, the country has the highest death rate in the world caused by sweet drinks (for example, out of 1,000,000 deaths, 318 are caused by soda). For comparison, in Japan, where carbonated drinks are not popular, only 10 out of one million deaths can be “blamed” on dangerous drinks.
Cardiologists recommend refraining from drinking any carbonated sweet water in order to avoid possible health problems.
