The success of transplantation depends on the state of the biological clock

Disturbances in circadian rhythms in the donor can lead to transplant rejection. Disturbances in circadian rhythms against the background of surgical stress worsen the blood supply to the transplanted organ.
A successful transplant requires taking into account many parameters, and blood type is only the most obvious one. American scientists from the Medical University of Georgia reported that a successful transplant requires checking the biological clocks of the donor and recipient. If one of them has a disrupted circadian rhythm, this will greatly increase the risk of developing postoperative complications.
The study was conducted on mice and involved transplanting arteries between mice with disrupted circadian rhythms and healthy animals. The results of the study showed that arteries from a healthy animal were normally transplanted into an organism with disrupted circadian rhythms, and if vessels from an animal with disrupted circadian rhythms were transplanted into a healthy body, signs of atherosclerosis were recorded in them after just a few weeks.
It should be noted that narrowing of the vessel walls, which results in disruption of the blood supply to the transplant, is a key problem in transplantology. Therefore, the study allows scientists to take into account additional parameters for organ transplantation in order to avoid such complications.
The authors recommend that all patients undergoing surgery be screened for sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleepwalking.
