Spray instead of shower
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025
In our lives we are so used to the shower that it is even hard to imagine how it is possible to do without it. But David Whitlock, a professor at the University of Massachusetts, stated that washing is harmful to health, while the chemist showed by his own example how it is possible to do without soap and water for a long time without consequences for yourself and others.
David Whitlock hasn't showered in over 10 years. He says that along with the dirt, a person washes away beneficial bacteria that support the immune system.
The researcher noted that nitric oxide promotes the formation of bacteria, and this chemical compound is also an antioxidant and helps the body stay young and healthy longer.
Wiltock noted that water washes away microorganisms that absorb urea, ammonia and other substances, especially if you use various gels, soaps, lotions and other modern cosmetics during washing. According to the chemist, such a "habit" leads to a decrease in immunity and the development of a number of immune diseases.
To prove his theory, David Whitlock refused any hygienic procedures and has been doing without a shower or bath for 12 years. The only thing that upset him and made others uncomfortable was the unpleasant smell. But even this did not force the scientist to take a shower at least occasionally, instead he went to the laboratory and invented a special product, which he called Mama-dirt.
This product is based on special bacteria that eat dirt from human skin and absorb unpleasant body odor.
David Whitlock is completely confident in his new product (by the way, he created it in the form of a spray) and recommends that everyone follow his example and use the spray instead of a shower.
The story of an American chemist who voluntarily gave up washing has stirred up the public. According to endocrinologist Vladislav Tkachev, there is some truth in Wiltock's statements. Scientists have long since discovered that a lack of certain bacteria on the skin can cause immune diseases. In a number of countries where there is no access to water and people do not wash every day, fewer such diseases have been recorded than in countries where it is customary to shower at least once a day.
Natural processes that activate one's own immunity are triggered by bacteria that live on the skin and inside a person.
As an example, Tolkachev cited the peoples living in the North, who wash extremely rarely, but their bodies do not emit an unpleasant odor, since a natural self-cleansing mechanism is activated.
But in developed countries, people have already become accustomed to this way of life and cannot imagine life without hot water and a shower, but as the popularity of hygiene procedures increases, immune diseases have begun to spread.
The endocrinologist noted that frequent washing removes a layer of fat produced by the body from the skin, and rare showers lead to blockage of the hair follicle. Harmful microorganisms, dust, etc. get on our skin and mucous membranes in huge quantities, when immunity decreases, pathogenic microflora becomes active and can lead to some diseases, pollution can "clog" pores, causing inflammation, the appearance of pustules, etc. According to Vladislav Tolkachev, a modern person needs to take a shower for his own health, for example, he himself has been washing himself daily for 30 years and feels good.
