A slice of cheese daily is a prevention of serious diseases
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025

Many people love hard cheese. And now scientists have proven that such cheese is not only tasty, but also very healthy.
Chinese experts have found that eating just 40 grams of hard cheese daily significantly increases the chances of avoiding diseases such as coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke.
These results were reached by scientists after a thorough study of one and a half dozen observational experiments, during which the relationship between nutritional characteristics and the development of cardiovascular pathologies was examined.
Hard cheeses are among the most popular food products in the world. According to data for 2015, the total turnover of cheese products on the world market was almost 81 billion dollars, with daily consumption of cheese per person - from 2 kg (Japanese) to 28 kg (French). In our country, the amount of cheese consumed per year is determined from 4 to 6 kg per person.
Of course, it has long been known that cheese contains many useful substances - calcium, vitamins, zinc. However, the benefits of this product for the cardiovascular system have been questioned until now, because cheese contains a lot of animal fats.
However, scientists have now managed to prove that cheese is actually good for the heart and blood vessels.
Throughout the study, scientists managed to compare a huge amount of information. In total, data from two hundred thousand people from different parts of the world were involved in the experiment. The duration of the project was 10 years.
Experts have found that systematic cheese consumption reduces the risk of developing heart and vascular diseases by 18%. Ischemic heart disease occurs 14% less frequently in people who love cheese (and stroke, accordingly, by 10%). During the experiment, the participants did not suffer from any heart or vascular pathologies and did not adhere to special nutritional principles.
The authors of the study indicate that for a lasting preventive effect it is necessary to consume approximately 40 g of cheese daily.
At the same time, the researchers themselves and other independent specialists admit that such an experimental variant can produce both random and erroneous results. Therefore, in order to confidently state the benefits of cheese in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, specific tests are required, with the organization of a control group and constant careful monitoring.
Similar studies have been conducted before, and they also confirmed that cheese is good for blood vessels. However, one fact is alarming: in both cases, the sponsors of the research projects were, in addition to the Institute for the Study of Dairy Products, individual macro-corporations producing dairy products. So what are the results obtained: is it true or just another advertisement? Consumers can only hope that subsequent studies will be more accurate and will confirm the scientists' opinion that hard cheese is good for the cardiovascular system.
More details about the study can be found in the European Journal of Nutrition.
