Reading the news, in which, with frightening regularity, the theme of cancer develops, I want to answer the question raised in the headline: absolutely everything! Well, or almost everything. Exactly from such an answer Bernard Stewart, researcher of cancer diseases from Australia, asks us to abstain.

In an article published in the journal Lancet Oncology, the scientist remarks that modern society is so intimidated by the possible (malignant) consequences of contact with household chemicals and the consumption of food is not "from his garden" that trees no longer see the forest. And this, according to Mr. Stewart, is more dangerous than phantom carcinogens in everyday life.

According to the scientist, there is absolutely no evidence that consumption along with food of some trace amounts of potentially dangerous chemicals or accidental too close contact with household chemicals really provokes the development of cancer. But it is absolutely certain that the most important cause of malignant tumors is our unhealthy lifestyle - "bad" habits. In general, "quit smoking! Get up on the skis ... ".

Do you want to prevent the onset of cancer? "And stop smoking." Resolutely limit yourself to alcohol (if possible, limit yourself to kefir). Stop plump (if you can not start losing weight). Avoid sunbathing. Mr. Stewart emphasizes that distracting our attention from these simple recommendations and switching it to some mirageable factors (at least for the time being and in general developed countries) environmental factors that you can not manage anyway is dangerous because of an omission from the field view of the main risk factors.

For example, everyone knows that air pollution from industrial emissions and automobile exhausts spoils the environment and potentially can lead to an increase in the incidence of cancer. All right, but the risk of earning a cancer living near a metallurgical plant is ten times lower than that of a simple smoker.

And although a small amount of carcinogenic substances is still able to regularly enter our body, for example, with food or using household chemicals, there is no evidence that such a "contact" can actually cause cancer. Bernard Stewart piously believes in the lucky star of regulatory public services, which, according to the scientist, have long established the correct permissible standards for the maintenance of all chemical and biological contaminants in food and the safety of household chemicals, reasonably foreseeing possible problems.

Thus, the Australian scientist underlines a simple idea: we should think only of the really proven risk factors and avoid meeting them. Do not spray attention at once to everything - from all at once you still can not be saved. Focus on the main thing, on your bad habits, get rid of them and live happily ever after!
