A list of hidden dangers in the home has been published
Last reviewed: 01.07.2025
The air in our home can be no less polluted than outside. If this is dangerous for an adult, imagine what a threat it poses to a small child. Let's find out where trouble is coming from and how to avoid it.
Solvents and paints
Solvents and paints are a dangerous source of harmful substances that evaporate even if the can is closed and cause many health problems. It is best not to store cans of paint at home at all, but if you are planning to renovate your apartment and you cannot escape the presence of paints, it is better to buy paints with a low content of volatile organic compounds and regularly ventilate the room where they are kept.
Carpets
There are cases when after purchasing a brand new carpet, so fluffy and pleasant to the touch, the owners start to have headaches, unknown rashes appear on the body, and the eyes water, as if someone is cutting onions right under the nose. The fact is that carpets emit harmful substances that cause such a reaction of the body. If there are small children in the family, it is better to refuse the carpet altogether, because it is a real dust collector, capable of causing allergic reactions and even asthma.
Dishes
Despite the fact that we enjoy using non-stick cookware, it can release toxic fumes when heated at high temperatures. Such cookware should not be heated for a long time without contents or kept in the oven for a long time. When using such cookware, do not forget to turn on the hood, which will at least partially save you from inhaling toxic substances.
Cleaning products
Some products designed to clean the house will certainly help to clean everything to a shine - this is a plus. But this plus is crossed out by the danger that cleaning and washing products carry. Housewives who use such products every day should know that it is dangerous to inhale and touch them. Therefore, reduce contact with various household chemicals to a minimum, work with gloves. But it is best to replace them with hot water, soap and soda.
Faulty gas stoves
Poorly ventilated or improperly installed gas stoves are very dangerous to health, because they are a source of harmful gases that are installed right in your apartment. Inhaling these gases can lead to fatigue, headaches, nausea and even death. Be sure to check that all burners are functioning properly and the flame tips remain blue.

Air fresheners
Some people, especially asthmatics, complain of breathing problems after using air freshener. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, some samples of this type of perfume contain dangerous substances - phthalates, which provoke hormonal imbalances and disrupt the development of the child's body. It is better to ventilate the room more often or use natural fragrances: mint, rosemary or basil.
Furniture
Furniture and non-creasing textiles, such as curtains, contain a dangerous chemical called formaldehyde. Its fumes can irritate the respiratory tract, especially in children. The newer the product, the higher the formaldehyde content, so after purchasing it, it is better to air out the furniture well and wash new curtains.
