EU to draft law banning prenatal sex selection of baby (video)
Last reviewed: 30.06.2025
The European Union countries intend to develop laws banning prenatal sex selection. Debates on this topic unfolded in Strasbourg during the PACE session. The reason for this discussion was the significant gap in the number of boys and girls born in some European countries.
The term "Prenatal Sex Selection" which is often used by doctors actually means that boys are more desirable in the family than girls who are aborted. All these factors have forced the Council of Europe to resort to a heated debate.
A Council of Europe report says centuries-old male cults are forcing modern families to forego having girls in countries including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Albania and Armenia.
