Beijing continues to suffocate
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025

The environmental situation in China continues to deteriorate, and authorities in Beijing have already declared a "yellow" threat level. According to forecasts, this fall and winter Beijingers will have to endure the worst smog in history. At the end of October, the northeastern part of China was in the grip of polluted air. After the introduction of the "yellow" threat level, many enterprises limited their work, and all construction in the city was completely stopped. Authorities strongly recommend that residents spend as little time as possible outdoors, and protect their respiratory organs when outdoors.
All efforts made by the authorities to combat smog are insufficient, for example, the number of cars on the streets of the city is limited from time to time, but the environmental situation does not change for the better. The number of cars in Beijing, despite some restrictions, continues to increase, so in 15 years their number has tripled. In the current situation, the authorities intend to reduce the growth of cars in the city, the municipal transport commission has already announced that by 2018 the number of new license plates issued will be reduced by 50 thousand. The last time such restrictions were introduced 3 years ago, which affected the level of sales of new cars, which decreased by half. Such restrictions entailed the cancellation of lotteries and auctions, in which one could win a license plate.
Beijing authorities also plan to combat smog with the help of huge fans. Several main and secondary ventilated corridors 500 and 80 m wide will be built in the city. According to the authorities, the corridors will help deal with polluted air in the capital, but there is no information on the time frame or how exactly this project will be implemented. It is assumed that the huge fans will blow dirty air out of the capital of China. By the way, this attempt to combat smog in the capital has caused a negative reaction among residents of areas adjacent to Beijing, in particular bloggers began to actively criticize this attempt to combat smog.
The pollution level in Beijing is increasing every year, for the first time ever the "red" danger level was declared last year, as a result of which all educational institutions in the capital stopped working. According to environmental centers in Beijing the content of hazardous particles in the air is 20 times higher than WHO standards.
By the way, the residents of the capital themselves are already skeptical about the authorities' promises to clean the city of smog and influence the environmental situation. As bloggers note, the authorities' active fight against traffic jams on the roads is leading to nothing, the same situation is observed with treatment - the authorities' promise to simplify the procedure for making an appointment with a doctor and make treatment more accessible remains a promise. According to bloggers, the same will happen with smog.
In Beijing, the number of cancer patients continues to increase today. And in the city, residents are actively buying up bottles that contain clean air from Canadian lakes. By the way, this pleasure is quite expensive - 13-23 dollars per bottle (the price varies depending on the volume of the bottle), but some resellers resell the air at 3 times the price.
