Americans are convinced that GMO foods are harmless
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025
In European countries, the public is against eating genetically modified foods or "Frankenstein food", the slogans of opponents of GMOs are focused on the fact that new technologies are good in everything, but they cannot be eaten. But in Ukraine, they adhere to a different point of view and Ukrainians are convinced that GMOs are completely safe for the body. This conclusion was made by specialists from a leading scientific organization in the United States. Scientists are sure that eating GMOs is not dangerous and the myths that such food can lead to serious changes and failures in the body are groundless. Researchers relied on a study of data on the use of genetically modified products and found that over the past quarter of a century, an increase in cancer or other serious diseases has not been recorded, experts also noted that such products do not cause large-scale harm to health either for animals or humans, rather the opposite, products with the Bacillus thuringiensis gene, which protects plants from insects, are not contaminated with insecticides and are more productive. At the same time, the researchers noted that new varieties of agricultural plants need to be carefully tested for safety, regardless of the method by which they were bred.
According to experts, it is difficult to trade such products on a large scale today due to differences in the legislation of different countries.
Recently, GMO products have been actively popularized in Ukraine, focusing on the latest studies that have confirmed their safety for human health. On air in one of the programs on Channel 5, Ukrainian academician A. Kolyada even noted that GMO products are more useful for humans than organic ones, since the latter are literally covered in pesticides, which are not only harmful, but also significantly increase the cost of products.
The campaign to promote GMO products began in Ukraine when Western companies became interested in the country's agriculture. By the way, one of the conditions of the IMF, which provides credit assistance to Ukraine, was all possible assistance in promoting new technologies, which can sometimes amaze a sensible person. For example, in the US, specialists recently grew a two-headed corn cob, which amazes with its gigantic size and has 50% more grains in its forked cobs.
In Ukraine, in all likelihood, GMO products will soon fill store shelves, which in the US have been recognized as completely safe for humans, however, there are no studies that would actually confirm the safety of such products and scientists cannot accurately answer the question of what kind of offspring will be, and whether there will be any at all, among those who eat two-headed corn.
Due to protests from supporters of "normal" food in Europe, the country's leadership even refused to sign a free trade agreement with the United States, which would have allowed cheap American GMO products into Europe. It is worth noting that Washington seriously intends to change European laws so that the requirements are less strict. By the way, the experts published a report on the safety of GMO products just in time.
As for Ukraine, no lengthy persuasion will be required here, since 2014 the company "Monsanto", one of the leaders in plant biotechnology, has been actively introducing itself into the country. By the way, the company "Monsanto" in the West is literally inundated with lawsuits, but in Ukraine all conditions for work are created for it and similar companies.
