Inflammation of the kidneys is a rather unpleasant disease, accompanied by acute pain and other symptoms. Under the general term "nephritis" are united certain diseases that affect the kidney sections in different ways. These are pyelonephritis, pyonephrosis, and also tuberculosis of the kidneys. Modern diagnostics can establish the complexity and extent of the disease. The causes of inflammation may differ from each other, but the sooner a person consults a urologist, the better. Whatever the method of therapy chosen, it is important to strictly adhere to a specific treatment plan for kidney inflammation.
Treatment of kidney inflammation with folk remedies
Folk remedies are a great way to combat kidney inflammation. Decoctions and tinctures of medicinal herbs help the kidneys function normally. If a person suffers from cystitis or nephritis, then an infusion of dried blue cornflower flowers will reduce inflammation and speed up the treatment of kidney inflammation. The same healing property is possessed by a no less popular and useful herb, such as horsetail. If you brew it, then in an hour the patient will be able to drink a truly useful drink that will cure his disease.
Many doctors who base their treatment on proven folk methods recommend bearberry leaves, which have a positive effect on the human body. This method can relieve both inflammation and pain. Usually this course lasts a month, after which it is recommended to take a break for at least two weeks. But you should not take herbs without consulting a doctor. Each of them has its own contraindications, which should be considered only in combination.
Folk remedies affect kidney inflammation gently, imperceptibly. The only rule is that herbs or any tinctures should be taken before meals. In no case should the order be violated, so as not to reduce the overall effectiveness.
Here are some treatment options that can help a person restore their kidneys to full function.
In case of acute and chronic nephritis, with kidney dilation, you will be prescribed treatment of kidney inflammation with folk remedies. For this you will need:
- 1 cup of boiling water and 1 tbsp. of bearberry. This mixture is infused in a warm place for 30 minutes. The tincture should be consumed a couple of times a day, 1 tbsp. 30 minutes after eating. Glomerulonephritis and pregnancy are contraindications for using this method.
- 3 cups of cold water and 1 tbsp. bearberry. Bring it all to a boil, then simmer until 1/3 of the decoction evaporates. Then consume the resulting decoction throughout the day in several doses.
For chronic nephritis you need to mix:
- Combine lovage root, field horsetail root, licorice root and juniper berries in equal parts. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 tbsp of the mixture, then let it sit for 6 hours, boil for 15 minutes and strain. This infusion can be drunk in several doses. It is not recommended to drink it during pregnancy and acute inflammation of the kidneys.
- Mix 25 g of horsetail herb with 25 g of field horsetail herb and add 50 g of knotweed. Pour 1 glass of cold water over 1 tbsp of the mixture. Let it brew for 6 hours. Then boil for 5 minutes and strain. Drink 1-2 glasses a day.
Treatment of kidney inflammation with herbs
With the help of a fruit and vegetable diet, with a limited amount of salt, spices, protein, you can cure kidney disease. The main enemies in the treatment of kidney inflammation are tobacco and alcohol consumption. If fluid is retained in the body, swelling is clearly visible on the face and legs, a good remedy for getting rid of it can be a pharmacy diuretic tea.
If the case is neglected, it would be good to add corn silk, birch buds. You need to drink half a glass of them 4-5 times a day. In this case, it is important that the amount of urine excreted is much greater than the volume of liquid absorbed. The amount of urine excreted shows the result of the herbal treatment.
A fruit and vegetable diet also helps to remove fluid from the body. Salt, on the contrary, retains water. Therefore, watermelon is the berry that will help to normalize the kidneys. It can be eaten throughout the day, several times. The watermelon rind that remains after the end is dried and used to prepare infusions that will become a wonderful diuretic that will soon cleanse the kidneys. Treatment of kidney inflammation with herbs helps to improve kidney function.
Traditional medicine advises people with unhealthy kidneys to eat as much boiled potatoes "in their skins" as possible, which should retain their heat until consumption.
100-150 g of dried apricots treat chronic diseases and edema. Sand and small stones are well removed by ordinary oats. 0.5 l of a jar of unpeeled oats is poured with 1 l of boiling water and boiled over low heat for an hour. Then filtered and taken 1/2 cup 3 times a day. Corn silk is used as a choleretic, mild diuretic.
Horsetail is a diuretic when treating inflammation of the kidneys, bladder and urinary tract, as well as edema of cardiac origin. This folk remedy removes lead from the body. For this, a decoction is prepared (10 g per 200 g). However, horsetail is harmful for any nephritis. It is most often used in the treatment of cystitis and urethritis.
Pumpkin is irreplaceable. It restores metabolic processes in the body and perfectly cleanses the kidneys. For this you will need fresh pumpkin juice, which is consumed 3/4 cup 3 times a day, or 500 g of grated pulp.
Drug treatment of kidney inflammation
Medicinal treatment of kidney inflammation may include ascorbic acid, rutin and diuretics, vitamin B and calcium preparations. In case of exacerbation of the disease or failure to achieve the effect of complex therapy, hemosorption and plasmapheresis are used. Treatment with cytostatics:
- cyclophosphamide, which should be taken in tablet form or as a powder dissolved in water early in the morning, immediately washed down with a large amount of boiled water. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, bladder cancer are contraindications for this drug;
- Azathioprine starts with a high dose of 5 mg/kg orally. The main contraindications are: hypersensitivity, liver failure, pregnancy.
All these drugs help to improve the physical condition. However, it is important to carry out such therapy exclusively under the strict supervision of a specialist with the obligatory appointment of the necessary and urgent medical and laboratory tests in dynamics. Health resort treatment can also be included in the complex therapy. In the absence of renal failure, spa treatment is prescribed in Truskavets, Essentuki, Zheleznovodsk. In the spa town of the Czech Republic, namely in Marianske Lazne, inflammation of the kidneys and urinary tract is treated. But the indications and contraindications for it will depend on the disease itself, which is caused by kidney inflammation.
Acute inflammation of the kidneys is recommended to be treated with medication. The patient is usually hospitalized, prescribed bed rest, diet and plenty of fluids. You can't do without antibiotics or other chemical antibacterial drugs. When a specialist prescribes treatment, he is guided by the results of the analysis of the sensitivity of microorganisms found in the urine to antibiotics. Treatment begins with the fastest-acting drug. Antibiotics of various groups help to treat pyelonephritis: fluoroquinolone, nitrofuran drugs are very useful in this case (this group of drugs includes furadonin, furagin, furazolidone, negram, which are moderately useful for chronic sluggish urinary tract infection in the elderly. Renal failure is a limitation to their use. The average duration of treatment with these drugs is from 7 to 10 days.), nitroxolinic acid. In order to prevent pyelonephritis from becoming chronic, antibacterial therapy is prescribed for at least 6 weeks. In addition, immunostimulants are also used (Decaris, Prodigeozan). With a normal course of the disease and structured treatment, the results of treatment improve after a week, and by four weeks there is a complete recovery. Drug treatment of kidney inflammation has a rather fruitful effect on the human body.
Treatment of kidney inflammation with medications
If the patient has the first symptoms of kidney inflammation, it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor who will determine whether there is a need to prescribe medication for kidney inflammation or whether it is possible to stop at traditional medicine recipes. But in any case, pyelonephritis, if present, must be treated comprehensively. First of all, it is necessary to destroy the infection that causes kidney inflammation. In parallel with this, treatment with antiseptic drugs is prescribed to relieve kidney inflammation. If you try to refuse treatment for the disease, then renal failure may soon develop.
Traditional drug treatment for kidney inflammation includes taking various medications, which include:
- herbal uroantiseptics (kanefron is recommended to eliminate urinary tract infections, 2 tablets or 50 drops of the drug 3 times a day. Contraindications: hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; phytolysin is taken 1 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of warm, slightly sweet water 3 times a day after meals. Contraindications for this drug are also acute inflammatory kidney diseases, nephrosis (kidney disease), phosphate lithiasis (phosphate kidney stones);
- Pipemidic acid preparations (palin, urotractin, pimidel), which are quite effective in men who suffer from urinary tract infections due to prostate adenoma. They are usually prescribed 1 capsule 2 times a day after meals. Contraindications include diseases of the central nervous system, severe renal failure, liver cirrhosis, childhood and adolescence up to 14 years of age, pregnancy and lactation.
- Diuretics based on folk remedies that have a beneficial effect on kidney diseases.
All this must necessarily be combined with supportive and antimicrobial therapy to reduce the volume of harmful effects on the urinary system. Quite often, the main treatment is aimed at improving the functioning of the entire urinary system, getting rid of such complications and consequences as urolithiasis, prostate adenoma, etc.
Medicines for kidney inflammation
It is better to treat kidney inflammation not at home, but in a hospital. Only there experienced specialists will be able to provide timely and correct qualified assistance. With the help of antibacterial, detoxifying and immunostimulating therapy, the well-being can soon be improved.
If you do not have edema, the doctor may allow you to drink 2-3 liters of liquid per day. This may include mineral water, juices, jelly, compotes. Cranberry and lingonberry juices, fruit drinks are most effective at this time, since they can reduce inflammation. It is better not to use table salt when eating at all. Maximum 5 g per day. Diuretics: watermelon, melon, pumpkin, which cleanse the urinary tract of microbes and mucus can be included in the patient's diet.
The first 3 days are best spent on acidifying foods (bread and flour products, meat, eggs). After that, for another 3 days, go on an alkalizing diet (vegetables, fruits, milk).
If this is not enough, the doctor will be obliged to prescribe medications for kidney inflammation. These can be antibacterial agents of different groups with a wide spectrum of action. Fluoroquinolones are considered the most effective:
- norfloxacin (Dosage and method of administration: orally 400 mg 2 times a day. For uncomplicated urinary tract infections - for 7-10 days, for uncomplicated cystitis - 3-7 days. Contraindications: hypersensitivity to some drugs, childhood and adolescence, pregnancy, breastfeeding. Caution is advised if a person has atherosclerosis of the cerebral vessels, cerebrovascular accident, epileptic syndrome and renal/hepatic insufficiency),
- ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin (The dosage is individual for each patient. They are taken orally - 250-750 mg 2 times / day, and for intravenous administration, a single dose should be 200-400 mg, no more than 2 times a day. Contraindications to the drugs include the same hypersensitivity, simultaneous use with tizanidine, childhood, pregnancy, lactation, etc. All of the listed drugs are low-toxic, which makes it possible to take them up to 2 times a day. They can be used by patients of any age).
With a properly detailed course, taking medications will help the patient feel better in a week. After four weeks, the patient can fully recover. However, antibiotics should be taken for another 2-3 weeks, since the treatment should be carried out until the microbes are completely removed from the urine. But if the inflammation is neglected, has turned into purulent, it cannot be dealt with without surgical intervention. It is also worth resorting to it in the presence of kidney stones, if the stone is not able to pass on its own, and it cannot be removed with special instruments.
It is worth noting that the following remedies can be added to the effective remedies against kidney inflammation:
- bactericidal: meropenem (Dosage: for adults with pneumonia, urinary tract infections, infectious and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs, skin and soft tissue infections, 500 mg is recommended. Method of administration: intravenously every 8 hours. Contraindications: hypersensitivity, childhood (up to 3 months);
- blood pressure lowering: verapamil (Dosage: daily dose for arterial hypertension - up to 480 mg. (1 tablet in the morning and evening, with an interval of about 12 hours between doses). To slowly lower blood pressure, the first dose should be 120 mg once a day in the morning. Method of administration: it is best to do this during or after meals. No need to dissolve, you can drink liquid without chewing. Contraindications: cardiogenic shock, hypotension, acute myocardial infarction, pregnancy, breastfeeding);
- diuretics: hydrochlorothiazide (Dosage: 1-2 tablets per day. Method of administration: taken after the patient has had breakfast, usually in the first half of the day. Contraindications: not prescribed to patients with individual hypersensitivity, as well as to people who suffer from galactosemia, lactase deficiency. It is also not recommended for patients suffering from severe renal dysfunction, complex diabetes mellitus and gout, as well as liver dysfunction);
- to improve blood circulation in the kidneys: trenpental (Dosage: intravenously by drip slowly at a dose of 0.1 g in 250-500 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution or in 5% glucose solution (administration time - 90-180 minutes). Method of administration: intravenously and intravenously (it is best for the patient to be in the "lying down" position), intramuscularly, orally. Contraindications: high sensitivity, acute myocardial infarction, profuse bleeding, hemorrhage in the brain, in the retina, coronary or cerebral atherosclerosis, cardiac arrhythmia; children under 18 years of age).
The use and contraindications of the above drugs must be studied on the packaging, and MANDATORY with the attending physician.
Do not self-medicate! It can only harm your health. Treatment can only be observed under the full supervision of a doctor.
Injections for kidney inflammation
In addition to drug treatment, the doctor usually prescribes injections for kidney inflammation to prevent severe kidney disease. But this only happens in emergency cases. Usually, the doctor rarely resorts to this, it is enough for him to prescribe antibiotics. Injections for the treatment of kidney inflammation can be fast-acting, because, unlike drugs, they quickly enter the body. Quite strong injections are prescribed for urinary tract infections. These include tsifran, which is recommended to be taken at 500 mg every 12 hours. In patients with severe renal failure, the total daily dose is best halved. These injections are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones. It cannot be injected into children under 16 years of age, as well as pregnant and lactating women. As prescribed by a doctor, you can give injections of a drug called ciprobay. In uncomplicated infections of the lower and upper urinary tract, single doses, intravenously can reach 2x100 mg per day, and in complicated urinary tract infections (depending on the severity), the daily dose can be 2x200 mg. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other drugs. The drug is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation. But all these injections are not as popular as alternative medicine, which many people love so much these days.
In order to correctly select medications, as well as prescribe competent treatment for kidney inflammation, patients need to take tests and undergo appropriate examinations. Modern pills for kidney inflammation are quite well perceived and absorbed by all groups of patients. However, there are cases when medications alone are not enough. Then, in order to reduce kidney inflammation, the doctor writes a prescription for potent injections that have a quick effect. Usually, treatment is carried out in a hospital under the supervision of wise doctors. Complex therapy of the disease includes preventive and spa treatment at climatic resorts.
Treatment of kidney inflammation with antibiotics
If folk medicine no longer helps, and the doctor prescribes antibiotics, then the situation does not change. When the pain intensifies, you can stick to bed rest. However, doctors advise leading an active, busy lifestyle, moving more, being outdoors more often. The best prevention is a fasting day based on a watermelon diet.
If an inflammatory process occurs in the kidneys or genitourinary system, the doctor immediately prescribes a course of antibiotics. On the one hand, antibiotics, due to their bacterial nature, justify the doctor's prescriptions, but on the other hand, treating kidney inflammation with antibiotics can have disastrous consequences for all internal organs, including weakened kidneys. Pregnant women, due to their condition, for example, and children, due to their age and still fragile body, are more likely to resort to alternative medicine.
Antibiotics are part of the scheme, although the most difficult for the body, of the impact on the body. You can't do without a doctor here. He is obliged to establish supportive therapy, if necessary, to combine traditional and alternative medicine. But only not independently, so as not to worsen the person's condition.
The most commonly used antibiotics for kidney inflammation include:
- Aminopenicillins: amoxicillin, penicillin, which have increased activity against enterococci and E. coli. The main disadvantage of such drugs is that they are susceptible to the action of the main enzymes produced by most pathogens of pyelonephritis. Penicillin is usually prescribed to treat kidney inflammation in pregnant women. It is believed that this drug is not contraindicated during breastfeeding. They safely penetrate into milk in small quantities, so their toxicity to the child is low. But, despite this, penicillin can cause a rash, candidiasis and diarrhea in nursing women. For moderate infections and high sensitivity of microflora - 1-2 million U / day in 4 intramuscular injections. In other cases, such drugs are inappropriate.
- Cephalosporin antibiotics can be classified as a group of low-toxic semi-synthetic and natural drugs. The group is based on a special acid 7-ACA, which, with timely treatment, prevents the transition of acute pyelonephritis to a purulent form of the disease. Cephalexin (Adults can take 1-4 g per day every 6 hours. Contraindications include: intolerance to cephalosporins and penicillin antibiotics, etc.), cephalothin (It is administered intramuscularly (deeply) and intravenously. Adults can take 0.5-2 g every 6 hours. In case of impaired renal function, after an initial loading dose of 1-2 g, the dose is reduced depending on the CC. Contraindications include the same hypersensitivity. The drug should be used with caution in case of renal failure, pregnancy, and lactation), zinnat (When treating infections of the genitourinary system, adults are recommended to take the drug during or immediately after eating 125 mg 2 times a day, and for pyelonephritis 250 mg 2 times a day); claforan (Adults and children weighing 50 kg or more for uncomplicated infections, as well as urinary tract infections - intramuscularly or intravenously, 1 g every 8-12 hours. Contraindications: hypersensitivity, pregnancy, childhood (intramuscular administration - up to 2.5 years), etc.); - the main representatives of this group of drugs (and there are about 40 of them). Already from the third day they help most patients improve their general condition.
- The patient needs aminoglycosides when he has a complicated form of pyelonephritis. Due to the strong bactericidal effect on pathogenic bacteria, the disease goes away. This is facilitated by such drugs as amikacin (Dosage regimen: intramuscularly, intravenously (jet, for 2 minutes or drip) 5 mg / kg every 8 hours. Contraindications include auditory nerve neuritis, severe renal failure with azotemia and uremia, pregnancy, hypersensitivity), gentamicin (this drug must be established individually, taking into account the severity and localization of the infection, as well as the sensitivity of the pathogen. When administered intravenously or intramuscularly, a single dose for adults can be 1-1.7 mg / kg per day. In case of increased sensitivity, auditory nerve neuritis, severe renal dysfunction, uremia and pregnancy, etc., its use is strictly prohibited), netilmicin (Can be administered both intramuscularly and intravenously. Adults are recommended 4-6 mg / kg. In case of increased sensitivity to antibiotics of the aminoglycoside group in the anamnesis, they should not be used).
In addition to their useful functions, they also have their disadvantages. As a rule, hearing loss and development of reversible renal failure are noted. Such antibiotics should not be prescribed to elderly people, as well as for secondary treatment (an interval of less than a year). These include:
- erythromycin (Intravenously, it should be administered slowly over 3-5 minutes. For adults and adolescents over 14 years of age, a single dose should be no more than 0.25-0.5 g, and 1-2 g per day. It should not be taken in case of hypersensitivity, significant hearing loss, or with the simultaneous use of terfenadine or astemizole. It should be used with caution in case of renal failure, lactation);
- ciprofloxacin (The dosage regimen, as with any other drugs, is individual. It is important to take it orally - 250-750 mg 2 times a day, and intravenously a single dose is 200-400 mg. It can be used no more than 2 times a day. In case of hypersensitivity, with simultaneous use with tizanidine, pregnancy, lactation, it is not recommended to drink this drug. It should be used with caution in epilepsy, epileptic syndrome, severe renal and / or liver failure, old age, etc.).
First generation fluoroquinolones (pefloxacin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin) are prescribed for the treatment of a dangerous form of pyelonephritis.
Pefloxacin (The dosage is selected for each patient individually depending on the location and severity of the infection, as well as the sensitivity of the microorganisms. If the infection is not complicated, then take 0.4 g 2 times a day, the average dose is 0.8 g in 2 doses. It is taken orally, on an empty stomach. The tablets must be swallowed without chewing and washed down with plenty of water. In case of hypersensitivity, hemolytic anemia, pregnancy, lactation, under 18 years of age, take with great caution. It is not recommended for atherosclerosis of the cerebral vessels, cerebrovascular accident, etc. As for such a drug as ofloxacin, it is prescribed to adults to drink 1-2 pills orally 2 times a day. If kidney function is impaired, then the usual doses are prescribed at first, and then they are reduced each time, taking into account creatinine clearance. Contraindications apply to those who suffer from increased sensitivity to quinolones, epilepsy. Doctors do not prescribe it to pregnant and nursing mothers.
Second-generation fluoroquinolones (levofloxacin, sparfloxacin), which are usually active against pneumococci, are often used to cure the chronic form of the disease during exacerbations. During an infectious exacerbation, they can be taken at 200-500 - 750 mg, 1-2 times a day, depending on the disease. They can also be administered intravenously, after this method, after a couple of days, you can switch to oral administration in the same dose. These drugs are not recommended for those who cannot tolerate individual components of the drug, as well as pregnant women and young mothers who are breastfeeding. Side effects of this group of drugs are: diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, development of candidiasis.
The choice of antibiotics depends on the type of microorganism that caused the disease and its sensitivity to antibacterial drugs. In case of kidney inflammation, the dosage of the drug is selected individually, taking into account the general state of the patient's kidney function. Before starting treatment of the kidneys with antibiotics, it is necessary to take tests, conduct an ultrasound and computed tomography.
Treatment of kidney inflammation during pregnancy
During pregnancy, women experience worsening kidney pathologies. The most dangerous period for this is 22-28, 38-40 weeks. To prevent this, it is important to observe all the same signs as for non-pregnant women. Diet, limited consumption of salt and liquids, adherence to the daily routine, more movement, avoiding hypothermia, maintaining personal hygiene - these are simple rules that must be followed to avoid complications.
If the consequences could not be avoided, drug therapy will be required. It should be selected only upon prescription by a general practitioner with constant monitoring by a gynecologist. Usually, pregnant women develop cystitis, i.e. the mucous membrane of the bladder becomes inflamed. This happens because during pregnancy, the growing uterus presses on the bladder and the ureters that pass from the kidneys to the bladder. As a result, urine stagnation sometimes occurs, which will lead to urinary tract infections that can affect the bladder and kidneys.
Some studies show that 10% of all pregnant women have cystitis at some point. This group usually includes pregnant women who have previously had to deal with this disease. In this case, treatment of kidney inflammation during pregnancy should not be ignored, just like self-medication. It is worth keeping in mind that an untreated infection can provoke the development of more dangerous diseases. This includes premature difficult labor or the birth of a child with low birth weight. Therefore, treatment should be approached adequately and in a timely manner. It is prohibited to take tracyclines and sulfonamides during this period. Doctors have many other methods in their arsenal that are absolutely harmless for pregnant women:
- Drink plenty of fluids. Cranberry juice in large quantities is especially useful;
- diet with limited salt, spicy and salty foods.
Another useful method for treating kidney disease is bladder instillation. In addition to this disease, 1-2 percent of pregnant women are bothered by pyelonephritis. Symptoms of bladder inflammation include fever, chills, and back pain. Unfortunately, as a result, expectant mothers have to go to the hospital, where they will be prescribed antibiotics, which will be administered intravenously or intramuscularly:
- ceftriaxone (administered intravenously and intramuscularly to adults and children over 12 years of age. The recommended dose is 1-2 g once a day. The amount of the drug per day should not be more than 4 g. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to some drugs);
- cefazolin (This drug, although it has a toxic effect on the fetus in the early stages of pregnancy, can be used for serious and life-threatening infections - urinary tract infection. It can be administered both intramuscularly and intravenously. For adults, it is recommended to inject 1 g. 2 times a day. Hypersensitivity to drugs of the cephalosporin group and other beta-lactam antibiotics will prevent this in every possible way. It is prohibited to give it to newborns, and during pregnancy the drug can be administered, but only in emergency situations).
Another unpleasant disease during pregnancy in women is a disease of the urinary tract. Urolithiasis is rare. With this disease, you can take painkillers, and also absorb as much liquid as possible. As a result of such treatment, the stones can come out on their own, which means that no surgical intervention will be needed. Not to mention lithotomy (crushing stones using ultrasound).
Pregnant women are treated in hospital only under the close supervision of obstetricians-gynecologists and nephrologists. Their task is to restore the impaired passage of urine. That is why “positional therapy” is prescribed. It consists of special exercises. The pregnant woman lies on the side opposite the diseased kidney with her knees and elbows bent. One end of the bed is raised so that her legs are higher than her head. In this position, the uterus moves forward, and the pressure on the ureters becomes significantly less. If no changes occur during the day, catheterization of the ureter of the affected kidney is prescribed. This procedure gives a 100% guarantee of a speedy recovery. If even this does not help the woman, then drainage of urine from the kidney with a catheter inserted directly into the organ that bothers the patient most at the moment comes to the rescue.
Kidney inflammation can be cured, or it can become a problem for life. It all depends on how well you follow all the doctor's recommendations.
