Thrush of the mucous membranes of any localization causes a lot of discomfort, so you want to get rid of such discharge as soon as possible. Moreover, it is considered a fairly harmless pathology, so they often resort to self-medication, especially since advertising is full of offers to get rid of thrush literally in one-time use.

And yet, before treating cheesy discharge and itching, it is strongly recommended to find out their cause. After all, it is this that needs to be eliminated, and not the manifestations of trouble.

For example, therapy for cytolytic vaginosis (Doderlein syndrome) is aimed primarily at normalizing the acidity of the vaginal environment. For this purpose, douching or sitz baths with a solution of baking soda may be prescribed - a weak alkali neutralizes increased acidity (in case of candidiasis, such treatment will not bring results). In this case, the use of antimycotics is inappropriate. Suppositories with lactobacilli and intimate hygiene products with increased acidity are excluded. There is no specific treatment.

If local treatments do not help, your doctor may prescribe oral Augmentin to suppress lactobacilli activity.

However, much more often, cheesy discharge is caused by candidiasis, and then treatment with antifungal agents is prescribed. Preference is given to local action on the affected areas of the mucous membrane.

Suppositories for white, cheesy discharge caused by the activation of fungal flora are very popular.

Betadine is a vaginal suppository with the active component povidone-iodine and the polymer substance polyvinylpyrrolidone, which acts as a depot for the medicinal substance and releases it over a certain period of time. Contact with the skin and mucous membrane activates the release of iodine. Iodine has not only fungicidal, but also bactericidal, antiviral and antiprotozoal activity, so this product can be used for mixed infections. Most microorganisms die within the first minute of use. It is used for colpitis, vulvovaginitis, vaginal dysbacteriosis, and treatment is not interrupted during menstruation.

Betadine in the form of an ointment can be used for local treatment of urethral candidiasis in men, and in the form of a solution and spray - for candidiasis of the throat and oral cavity.

The preparations are contraindicated for people sensitized to iodine, with thyroid diseases, renal failure and Duhring's dermatitis. It is not recommended for use by pregnant women.

Clotrimazole – is available in the form of vaginal tablets with an applicator, which is convenient for intravaginal administration. The active substance is a well-known antifungal agent, and is also active against trichomonads, staphylococci, and streptococci. It dissolves the cell walls of fungi, which leads to their death. It is not used during menstruation, and is also not recommended for use in the first trimester of pregnancy; later, it is recommended to use it only as prescribed by a doctor. The only contraindication is patient hypersensitivity. It is also available in the form of a cream and solution. It is not compatible with Nystatin.

Polygynax is a combination drug in the form of vaginal suppositories with a broad spectrum of action, containing three antibiotics:

Neomycin sulfate - disrupts the functions of bacterial RNA;

Polymexin B sulfate is a polypeptide antibiotic, active mainly against gram-negative bacteria; it disrupts the osmotic stability of bacterial walls and inhibits the growth of pathogenic microorganisms;

Nystatin is a well-known antifungal drug to which Candida yeast fungi are particularly sensitive.

The active ingredients do not affect the activity of Doderlein bacilli. It is used for mixed infections, non-specific bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis.

Contraindicated for patients who are intolerant to the active ingredients of the drug, as well as those with allergies to soy and peanuts. During pregnancy, use only as prescribed by a doctor.

Polygynax Vergo is used in pediatrics. The use of the drug is not interrupted during menstruation.

Pimafucin - vaginal suppositories are considered one of the safest and are not contraindicated for pregnant women. The main component of the drug is the antibiotic Natamycin, active against candidiasis pathogens, disrupting the integrity of the cell membranes of fungi. There are no known cases of resistance and allergic reactions to this substance. Candida ablicans, which cause the vast majority of mycoses of the mucous membranes, are most sensitive to the drug.

Also available in cream form.

If thrush is accompanied by menstrual irregularities, the doctor may prescribe Utrozhestan suppositories containing synthetic progesterone. However, this drug affects the hormonal background, not the fungal flora, so self-treatment of thrush with these suppositories is unacceptable.

To eliminate vaginal microflora disorders after treatment of vulvovaginitis, colpitis, antibacterial therapy and to prevent candidiasis, the vaginal antiseptic Salvagin (intravaginal gel in disposable tubes) is prescribed. The active substance of the drug is of plant origin - grapefruit seed extract. Contains inulin - a nutrient for beneficial bacteria, and aloe vera extract, which renews and heals the epithelium of the mucous membrane. Restores the physiological balance of the vaginal environment.

When the mouth and throat are affected by yeast fungi, rinse with Rotokan, an alcohol solution containing extracts of chamomile, calendula and yarrow, or Iodinol. It should be remembered that any local drug can cause allergic reactions in the form of itching, rash, and increased discharge.

If necessary, your doctor may prescribe oral medications, vitamin therapy, or medications to treat the underlying disease that is causing your candidiasis symptoms.

Folk remedies

In case of thrush, after consulting with a doctor, you can supplement the treatment with traditional medicine recipes.

In case of damage to the genitourinary organs, douching and sitz baths with antifungal solutions, insertion of tampons, gargling and mouthwash are used.

For cytolytic vaginosis, a solution for douching or baths with baking soda is prepared at the rate of one teaspoon per half a liter of boiled water at a temperature of approximately 37℃.

Oral fungus is rinsed with a soda solution with two drops of iodine added, or a pale pink solution of potassium permanganate, as well as infusions of medicinal herbs.

In case of candidiasis of mucous membranes, treatment with herbs with fungicidal activity is widely used - calendula, chamomile, oak bark, walnut leaves. Infusions and decoctions of herbs relieve itching and inflammation well, and inhibit the growth of fungal colonies. They are used for douching and sitz baths.

Mix equal parts of crushed chamomile flowers and plantain leaves. Brew a tablespoon of the mixture with a liter of boiling water, strain after half an hour. Douche once a day before bed.

Mix dry crushed chamomile flowers and walnut leaves (five parts each), sage herb (three parts), curly mallow and oak bark (two parts each). Brew two teaspoons of the mixture with one liter of boiling water and simmer for half an hour. Do the procedure twice a day.

A calendula decoction is prepared in the same proportions.

Sitz baths are taken daily for 1/3 hour, adding decoctions of medicinal herbs to them.

Homeopathy

Professional homeopaths treat thrush successfully because during treatment they do not try to suppress the symptoms, but to identify and cure the root cause of this condition of the mucous membranes.

Specific ones include Kalium muriaticum and Thuja occidentalis. Heavy discharge with an unpleasant odor and discomfort requires the prescription of Alumina or Berberis, damage to the integrity of the vaginal epithelium requires the prescription of Cantharis or Lachesis.
