The causative agent of thrush is yeast-like fungi of the Candida species, which constitute the opportunistic microflora of the vagina, and in small quantities inhabit the intestinal and oral mucosa. Direct infection does not necessarily trigger the development of the disease. For the appearance of pathogenic symptoms, a weakening of the body's defenses, stress, or a course of antibiotics that disrupt the balance of the vaginal environment is enough. The frequency of relapses of vaginal candidiasis can be due to the growth of pathogenic flora not only in the mucous membrane of the genital system, but also in the digestive organs. In this regard, therapy for genital thrush should be carried out in parallel with seeding the intestines with lacto- and bifidobacteria.

One of the most popular and effective antifungal drugs is Pimafucin for thrush. The broad-spectrum antibiotic is well tolerated by patients and does not affect the body as a whole, since it “works” directly at the site of infection without penetrating the bloodstream.

Indications Pimafucin for thrush

The antimicrobial action of pimafucin is characterized by the ability to suppress metabolic processes of fungal flora cells during local penetration into the superficial layers of the dermis and the patient's mucous membrane. Thus, the drug destroys the cells of pathogenic microorganisms with minimal interference in the body's vital functions.

The drug's release forms allow to get rid of fungal infections of various localizations in obstetrics and gynecology, dermatovenereology and general practice. Pimafucin is developed on the basis of natamycin - a macrolide antibiotic, active against:

  • yeast-like fungi;
  • mold organisms of the aspergillus and penicillium groups;
  • yeast species torulopsis, rhodotorula;
  • dermatophytes – microsporum, epidermophyton, trichophyton.

Indications for use:

  • fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes
  • genital candidiasis in women and men;
  • proliferation of yeast-like fungi against the background of antibacterial therapy, after the use of cytostatics and glucocorticosteroids;
  • middle ear damage (otomycosis);
  • nail, intestinal candidiasis;
  • treatment of vulvitis, vaginitis, trichomoniasis;
  • dermatomycosis disease.

Release form

The active ingredient of the drug Pimafucin for thrush is Natamycin. Excipients differ depending on the form of release of the antifungal agent.

Composition and form of release of the antibiotic:

Form

Additional components

Candles (pack of 3/6 pcs)

Cylindrical, pointed on one side

Organic alcohols, sodium lauryl sulfate, decyl oleate, purified water, etc.

A 2.5% suspension for topical use (20 ml bottle with a pipette) containing 25 mg of natamycin per 1 ml is extremely rare. Liquid pimafucin for thrush is recommended for diseases of the oral mucosa. Oral cavity lesions by yeast-like fungi are diagnosed in infants, the elderly, as well as in patients after severe infectious diseases and immunodeficiency. The oral mucosa swells, becomes inflamed, acquires a red tint, and a curd-like white or yellowish coating appears on it. For treatment, a suspension of pimafucin is recommended, which is kept in the mouth for as long as possible. Adults are prescribed 1 ml, children - 1/2 ml 4-6 times a day.

Pimafucin suppositories for thrush

Vaginal suppositories are indicated for the treatment of genital diseases caused by Candida fungi. Pimafucin suppositories for thrush are used one at bedtime. They are inserted in a supine position deep into the vagina. The average duration of treatment is a week. Curd-like discharge, itching, and discomfort often disappear on the third day of use. However, it is important to complete the entire therapeutic course recommended by the gynecologist. The fact is that yeast-like fungi easily spread throughout the body and untreated thrush can become chronic.

During menstruation, treatment is inappropriate, since the drug is washed out by blood. If symptoms of candidiasis are detected on the external genitalia, you can additionally use Pimafucin cream. The sexual partner should use Pimafucin cream, even if he/she has no clinical manifestations of the disease. Only in this case do gynecologists allow sexual relations.

In case of frequent relapses of vaginal candidiasis, it makes sense to drink medications with live strains of lactic acid bacteria and irrigate the vaginal walls with similar cultures. Of course, Pimafucin suppositories for thrush are a proven and effective drug that brings quick relief, but only a balance of microflora and strong immunity can be the key to re-infection.

Pimafucin tablets for thrush

Intestinal candidiasis manifests itself as weakness, loss of appetite, constant malaise, and inability to concentrate on work. Patients often report bowel disorder, nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain of varying intensity, and colic. The proliferation of Candida fungi provokes a disruption of digestive function and, as a result, vitamin deficiency, neurotic disorders, allergic reactions, and inflammation of the oral cavity. Against the background of intestinal damage, foci of infection often flare up in the genitals, kidneys, and urinary tract. For example, chronic vaginal thrush can be caused by yeast fungi that have colonized the mucous membrane of the digestive tract. On the other hand, vaginal candidiasis is often the cause of the proliferation of pathogens in the intestinal mucosa. Pimafucin tablets for thrush, used in parallel with suppositories, help to break out of the vicious circle. Relapses of the disease occur after antibacterial treatment, so it is important to maintain normal intestinal and vaginal microflora.

Pimafucin tablets for thrush are covered with an enteric coating, delivering the drug exactly to the site of infection. The natamycin-based product acts exclusively on the mucous membrane and skin, without penetrating the bloodstream.

Pimafucin cream for thrush

Pimafucin cream for thrush is applicable in the treatment of male and female patients. Paste-like consistency of natamycin is recommended for thrush in girls and young women.

In case of balanoposthitis in men accompanied by itching, burning and inflammation of the head of the penis, the infected areas of the skin are treated with cream several times a day. Candidiasis in men can be intense with disturbance, pain during urination and intercourse or without pronounced symptoms. Vague, hidden infection with yeast-like fungi entails serious consequences. In general, the proliferation of Candida fungi in men indicates a catastrophic decrease in the body's defenses against the background of urological pathology or venereal disease.

Pimafucin cream for thrush is used by girls, lubricating the external genitalia until the clinical signs of candidiasis disappear. Infection of babies occurs during childbirth, and cream with natamycin helps to cure a newborn from a life-threatening disease (microorganisms can penetrate into internal organs).

Pimafucin in the form of a cream has found application in ENT practice (treatment of the outer ear). When yeast-like fungi are detected, the ear canal is treated with antifungal cream up to four times a day, after which the ear is closed with a cotton swab.

Pimafucin ointment for thrush

The Dutch and Japanese pharmaceutical companies that produce Pimafucin do not produce Pimafucin ointment for thrush; they only supply the market with ointment in a plastic or aluminum 30 gram tube.

Pharmacodynamics

The antibiotic pimafucin for thrush is classified as an antifungal polyene drug of the macrolide group. The drug based on natamycin is characterized by a broad spectrum of action and high efficiency. The substance has pronounced fungicidal properties. Natamycin penetrates the cell membrane of pathogenic microorganisms, disrupting metabolic processes, thereby causing the death of yeast colonies.

The pharmacodynamics of pimafucin in thrush is based on the sensitivity of the fungal flora to the antibiotic. The drug is active against yeast-like fungi such as Candida, dermatophytes (Microsporum, Trichophyton, Epidermophyton), pathogenic fungi (Penicillium, Aspergillus) and yeast (Rhodotorula, Torulopsis). Clinical practice does not indicate cases of resistance to natamycin.

Use Pimafucin for thrush during pregnancy

The advantages of the drug Pimafucin for thrush are high efficiency with local action with a minimum risk to the health of the whole organism. The drug is not toxic, does not affect the development of the embryo, does not cause teratogenic effects and is therefore allowed for pregnant women at all stages of gestation.

For preventive purposes, it is advisable to use pimafucin for thrush during pregnancy for three days in a row before the upcoming birth, if vaginal candidiasis has been diagnosed within nine months. This will prevent infection of the child passing through the birth canal.

Contraindications

Contraindications are a history of individual intolerance to one of the components of the drug. For example, cetyl alcohol, included in vaginal suppositories with natamycin, sometimes provokes a burning sensation.

Side effects Pimafucin for thrush

Negative effects that occur in the first days of therapy with Pimafucin for thrush should not cause alarm in the patient. As a rule, they pass quickly enough along with the symptoms of candidiasis itself. Doctors assure that the unpleasant conditions of the gastrointestinal tract listed below are not a reason to stop treatment even for pregnant women. The only exception will be allergic reactions, in order to prevent which you should carefully study the composition of the antifungal agent.

Common side effects of Pimafucin for thrush:

  • nausea;
  • digestive disorders;
  • loose stools;
  • hypersensitivity reactions of the skin (discomfort, burning, dryness, irritation, etc.).

Special instructions

Pimafucin for thrush in men

Candida fungi cause candidal balanoposthitis in men. The inflammation affects the head of the penis and the skin of the foreskin. When pathology is detected in men, the treatment regimen is based on the examination results, since the symptoms of thrush often indicate a more serious problem - a sharp decrease in immunity. If signs of the disease appear, 2% pimafucin cream is used locally for thrush in men, which is used to treat the affected areas of the genitals several times a day. Other drugs are prescribed by the attending physician on an individual basis.

If one of the sexual partners is sick with thrush, then both should be treated. Men who do not have clinical manifestations of the disease apply the ointment to the penis for prophylactic purposes for as long as the therapy for vaginal candidiasis in women lasts.

Price

The cost of the antifungal drug depends on the manufacturer, the pricing policy of the pharmacy chain and the duration of the treatment course. The biggest disadvantages of the drug Pimafucin for thrush include its relative high cost. This is especially noticeable in cases of chronic course of the disease, when therapy stretches for months and requires simultaneous use of vaginal suppositories with natamycin tablets. Unfortunately, there is no need to think about saving if relapses of candidiasis bring patients to nervous exhaustion due to frequent negative, uncomfortable manifestations that disrupt the usual way of life.

Price of Pimafucin for thrush:

  • tablets 20 pcs – from 90 UAH to 250 UAH;
  • cream 30g in tube – from 50 UAH to 125 UAH;
  • vaginal suppositories – from 60 UAH to 220 UAH.

Suppositories are sold in packages of 3 and 6 pieces, which also affects the final amount. For example, suppositories No. 3 and No. 6 of the same manufacturer "Yamanouchi Pharma" cost 125.50 UAH and 214.25 UAH, respectively.

Reviews

Doctors and patients note a quick and long-term positive effect in the treatment of candidiasis with natamycin, which is possible due to the fungicidal action of the drug. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, pimafucin remains an indispensable remedy for getting rid of vaginal candidiasis, which does not have a toxic effect on the development of the baby.

Negative reviews of Pimafucin for thrush are related to the fact that patients violate medical prescriptions, often interrupting treatment on their own. Of course, each organism is individual and the drug may not help someone. However, it should be taken into account that chronic forms of candidiasis are difficult to treat and it will be impossible to get rid of them using only local treatment. "Old" pathologies require mandatory strengthening of the body's immune forces. In most cases, attention should be paid to the balance of lactic acid bacteria in the intestinal mucosa and vaginal environment.

Vaginal candidiasis is a real scourge of our time. Not only Pimafucin for thrush helps to get rid of it, but also following simple rules:

  • inclusion of fermented milk products in the diet;
  • reducing consumption of sweets and baked goods;
  • refusal of synthetic underwear;
  • Avoid using gels and soaps for intimate hygiene.

Shelf life

The shelf life of Pimafucin suppositories for thrush is two years from the date of manufacture, cream and tablets are stored for four years. After the expiration of the period indicated on the packaging, the drug is prohibited to use.
