Terbizzed
Medical expert of the article
Last reviewed: 04.07.2025

Terbized is an antimycotic from the allylamine category and has a wide range of antimycotic activity.
In low concentrations, terbinafine has fungicidal properties against dermatophytes, individual dimorphic and mold fungi. The effect on yeast fungi, depending on their type, can be fungistatic or fungicidal.
Terbinafine has a specific inhibitory effect on the early phase of sterol biosynthesis inside the fungal cell. As a result, a deficiency of ergosterol with intracellular accumulation of squalene develops, causing the fungal cells to die.

Pharmachologic effect
Indications Terbizeda
It is used in cases of fungal infections of the epidermis caused by dermatophytes, including trichophyton (for example, red trichophyton, T.mentagrophytes, warty trichophyton and T.violaceum), downy microsporum and flocculent epidermophyton.
It is also prescribed for yeast infections of the epidermis (mainly caused by Candida fungi - for example, Candida albicans).
Used in cases of pityriasis versicolor caused by the activity of Pityrosporum orbiculare.
Release form
The substance is released in the form of a cream - inside a 10 g tube.
Pharmacokinetics
After local use, terbinafine is insignificantly absorbed into the circulatory system (less than 5% of the dosage), so the systemic effect of the drug is minimal.
Most of terbinafine is synthesized with intraplasmic blood protein (99%). The substance quickly passes through the epidermis, accumulating inside the lipophilic stratum corneum. In addition, terbinafine gets inside the secretions of the sebaceous glands. The drug gets inside the nail plates in the first weeks from the start of treatment. Metabolic processes develop inside the liver; inactive metabolic elements are formed.
Most of the inactive metabolic components (71%) are excreted in urine, and a smaller part in feces (22%). The terminal half-life is 11-17 hours. It penetrates into breast milk. There is no data on accumulation of the substance.
In people with liver or kidney problems, the excretion of Terbized may be slowed down, causing increased levels of terbinafine to form in the blood.

Dosing and administration
The cream is used for external treatment - it is applied to the epidermis 1-2 times a day, taking into account the type of pathology. The duration of the course is selected depending on the course of the disease.
Before using the medicine, you need to dry and clean the infected areas. Apply the cream in a thin layer, rubbing it in a little - in the affected area and adjacent areas. In case of infections, in which there is diaper rash of skin folds (between the fingers, under the breast, in the groin area and in the intergluteal region), the areas treated with the medicine should be covered with gauze, especially at night.
On average, therapy usually lasts:
- for interdigital epidermophytosis (this includes “athlete’s foot”) 1 time per day for 7 days;
- for squamous-hyperkeratotic or dyshidrotic epidermophytosis, apply 2 times a day over a 14-day period;
- for inguinal or trunk dermatomycosis, use once a day for 7 days;
- for epidermal candidiasis - 1-2 times a day for a 1-2 week period;
- for pityriasis versicolor - 1-2 times a day for 14 days.
Weakening of the intensity of clinical symptoms often develops after several days of therapy. If therapy is carried out irregularly or is stopped prematurely, there is a risk of relapse of infection. If there is no improvement in the patient's condition, it is necessary to clarify the diagnosis.
Use Terbizeda during pregnancy
Because there is only limited information regarding the clinical experience of using Terbized during pregnancy, it is only allowed to be prescribed during this period in situations where the potential benefit to the woman is more likely to outweigh the negative consequences for the fetus.
Terbinafine is excreted in breast milk, which is why the drug is prohibited during breastfeeding. Infants should not come into contact with the epidermis treated with the cream (for example, with the skin in the chest area).
Contraindications
It is contraindicated to prescribe the medication to individuals with severe intolerance to terbinafine or other components of the drug.

Side effects Terbizeda
Redness, burning or itching may sometimes occur in the areas where the medication is applied, but these symptoms only rarely require discontinuation of therapy. Such side effects should be distinguished from allergic reactions, which occur infrequently, but should always be discontinued if they occur.
If any negative symptoms develop, you must stop treatment and consult a doctor.
Overdose
In case of accidental oral ingestion of the cream, the same disorders may occur as in case of poisoning with any terbinafine: diarrhea, pain in the epigastric region, nausea, thrombocyto- or neutropenia and dizziness.
Gastric lavage is performed and symptomatic measures are taken.
