Pharmacodynamics

Fungicidal activity develops by inhibiting the synthesis of cell sterol, which inhibits the production of ergosterol, which leads to the death of the bacterium.

At the same time, Terbizil helps to slow down the activity of the enzyme squalene epoxidase. It is located inside the cell wall, and the breakdown of its function causes the accumulation of squalene inside the cell and the death of the pathogenic fungus.

Dosing and administration

The duration of treatment is mainly selected taking into account the degree of intensity of the pathology and its nature.

The use of pills.

For children over 3 years of age, a dose of 125 mg is administered once a day.

Adults use the drug in a dose of 0.25 g (it is recommended to use it for 1 use).

In the case of onychomycosis, the therapeutic cycle usually lasts 1.5-3 months (determined by the rate at which the healthy nail grows).

In addition, there are other factors by which the duration of therapy is selected: the presence of concomitant diseases and age.

The drug may be prescribed for ringworm, affecting the foot (interdigital or plantar, as well as in the form of "socks"). This course lasts for 0.5-1.5 months. In the case of ringworm, affecting other areas of the epidermis, the treatment is 0.5-1 month. With head-affecting mycotic diseases, 1 month.

Apply cream.

Interactions with other drugs

Terbizil affects the clearance of drugs whose metabolism proceeds with the help of hemoprotein P450 (cycloserine, tolbutamide, and oral contraception are among those). At the same time, terbinafine is able to slow down and speed up the metabolic processes of these medicines.

The metabolism of the drug itself can be accelerated when used with drugs that potentiate the effect of liver cell microsomal enzymes (among them rifampicin).

Drugs that inhibit the activity of the hemoprotein P450 enzyme inhibit the excretion of terbinafine, which is why it is necessary to correct the portion of the latter.
