Last reviewed: 03.07.2025

It is a solution intended for oral administration and inhalation. The international non-proprietary name of the drug is ambroxol. This is due to the fact that the main active ingredient is ambroxol hydrochloride. There are also auxiliary substances, but they do not have a significant effect on the therapeutic process. Citric acid, sodium hydrophosphate, sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, purified water are considered as auxiliary substances. It is a transparent solution, which is either colorless or has a slightly brownish tint.

Pharmacodynamics
Belongs to the group of expectorants, mucolytics. When studying the pharmacological properties, ambroxol is considered as the main active substance. Its mechanism of action is that it increases the secretion of mucus in the respiratory tract, and also stimulates the production of surfactant in the alveoli.
Surfactant production stimulates ciliary activity. All this enhances the flow and transport of mucus, resulting in mucociliary clearance. Increased mucociliary clearance promotes sputum discharge, and also significantly alleviates the condition, in particular, the cough is relieved. In patients suffering from obstructive pulmonary disease, the cough is also significantly relieved. Lazolvan therapy is often long-term, its duration is at least 2 months. The number of exacerbations is significantly reduced. It is also worth noting that against the background of taking Lazolvan, the number of days of taking antibiotics is significantly reduced.
Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacokinetic studies show that the drug forms are quickly released, and almost completely absorbed in the respiratory tract. There is a linear relationship between the dose of the drug and the therapeutic effect. The maximum concentration in the blood is reached within 1.5-2 hours after administration. The distribution volume is approximately 550 l. The drug binds to blood plasma by 90%.
Ambroxol passes from the blood into tissues quite quickly, especially if taken orally. The highest concentrations of the drug are found in the lung tissue, which indicates high treatment efficiency and the drug's affinity for lung tissue. Recovery occurs much faster, since the drug has a targeted effect on the body, acting specifically against pathogens of upper respiratory tract diseases.
It is also necessary to take into account that the drug undergoes approximately 30% primary processing in the liver. Therefore, it should be prescribed with caution to patients with liver failure. The highest percentage of drug processing is observed in liver microsomes. In this case, ambroxol is metabolized to dimbromanthranilic acid. Other components are also formed, which accumulate mainly in the liver, which must be taken into account when treating patients suffering from liver diseases, especially liver failure.
The half-life of the drug from the body is 10 hours. At the same time, the indicators of total clearance are within 600-660 ml/min. At the same time, renal clearance accounts for at least 8% of the total clearance. It is known that the turnover of the drug occurs on average 5 days, with approximately 83% of the dose excreted in the urine. During the studies, no dependence on gender, age, constitutional features and other parameters of the patient was found.

Dosing and administration
The drug is recommended for oral administration. Children aged 2 to 6 years are prescribed 25 drops three times a day. In some cases, under the supervision of a doctor, the drug is still prescribed to children under 2 years: 25 drops 2 times a day. Children over 6 years are recommended to be prescribed 50 drops three times a day. You can dilute the drops in water, tea, various decoctions. For infants, drops can be diluted in milk. Take regardless of food intake.

Contraindications
The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to individual components of the drug, as well as in case of pronounced allergic reactions. The drug is not recommended for patients under 2 years of age, since it has the ability to affect the nervous system.
Side effects Lasolvan syrup
It can provoke a strong cough, as it helps to remove phlegm from the body, which is liquefied. It is worth noting that the drug cannot be combined with antitussive drugs, since their action is aimed at, on the contrary, increasing the cough. Accordingly, phlegm with cough is removed from the body faster and the inflammatory process is eliminated faster.
Side effects are rare. But it is worth noting that if they occur, almost all of them are associated with digestive system disorders. Nausea and vomiting occur in about 10% of cases. Decreased sensitivity of the pharynx and oral cavity is often observed. Severe vomiting and diarrhea, dyspepsia, pain in the stomach, and bloating are observed in about 1% of cases. Very rarely, dry throat occurs in about 0.01% of cases.
Immune system disorders may also be observed. It is also worth noting that people with a tendency to allergic reactions may experience anaphylactic shock (with a tendency to immediate allergic reactions). If a person has predominantly delayed hypersensitivity reactions, skin rash, urticaria, irritation, and itching are observed.
People who have a history of various diseases of the nervous system experience disturbances of taste, hearing, and olfactory receptors. Angioedema may also develop.
Overdose
In cases of overdose, nausea, vomiting, and dyspepsia occur. Often there is pain in the stomach area. First, you should immediately stop taking the drug. You should also call an ambulance. If necessary, wash the stomach until the waters are "clear".
Symptomatic treatment is then carried out, the essence of which is to eliminate the effects of the excessive amount of the drug on the body. Before the doctor arrives, you should immediately induce artificial vomiting. Gastric lavage is effective for about 1-2 hours after taking a large amount of the drug, since the drug is absorbed slowly.

Interactions with other drugs
There are no significant and clinically significant cases of interaction of the drug with other drugs. It is only known that the drug is able to increase the degree of penetration of drugs into the bronchodilator secretion. In particular, the activity of such drugs as amoxicillin, erythromycin, cefuroxime, and other antibacterial drugs increases.
Of particular interest among the special instructions is the fact that the drug is not recommended to be combined with other medications, especially with antitussives and those that have the ability to delay the release of sputum. It is also not recommended to take with antitussives. On the contrary, it should be taken with those drugs that increase cough and promote the accelerated removal of sputum from the body. The drug is also quite compatible with anti-inflammatory drugs. If a person has increased bronchial reactivity, it is necessary to drink a large amount of water after taking the drug. The solution contains a fairly large amount of benzalkonin chloride, so people with increased reactivity may experience bronchospasm if they do not drink enough.
Storage conditions
Cough syrup for children should be stored at a temperature no higher than 25 degrees, out of the reach of children.
Special instructions
It is also necessary to take into account that the drug must be shaken before taking, since the main active substance has the ability to precipitate. Accordingly, the drug will not have the desired therapeutic effect. Before prescribing the drug to children under 12 years of age, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
There are reports that in some cases severe skin disorders may develop, up to the development of purulent-septic and inflammatory skin diseases, as well as the development of a disease such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome. It should be prescribed with caution to patients with various genetic anomalies and metabolic disorders. It is also worth noting that in people with genetic abnormalities, skin disorders occur significantly more often. People with genetic diseases may even develop epidermal necrolysis, the severity of which develops in direct proportion to the severity of the disease.
If a person has impaired kidney and liver function, the drug should also be used with caution. It is necessary to consult with the attending physician in advance. The drug significantly reduces concentration and also reduces the speed of psychomotor reactions.
