The solar burn of the retina is caused by photochemical effects of solar radiation as a result of direct and indirect sun exposure.

A solar burn of the retina manifests itself 1-2 hours after exposure to a decrease in central vision in one or both eyes, metamorphopsia or central scotoma.

Symptoms of a solar burn of a retina

  • Visual acuity is variable according to the severity of the lesion.
  • Initially, it is located on one or both eyes in the foveal small, yellow spots with a green edge.
  • After about 2 weeks, a limited pigmentary mottle and lamellar rupture are revealed.

The prognosis of a solar burn of a retina, as a rule, good. Restoration of vision to normal or close to this occurs within 6 months, although some symptoms of sunburn may persist.
