  • protection of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, as well as healing of its dried, infected or damaged areas;
  • irritation and dryness of the mucous membrane in the mouth and nasopharynx (due to inhalation of poorly humidified, dry air inside heated or air-conditioned rooms, and also due to respiratory disorders through the nose and during sports);
  • combined treatment of symptoms of bronchitis and bronchitis in the acute or chronic stage (dry cough);
  • increased stress on the vocal cords;
  • strengthening the gums;
  • bad breath.

In addition, it is prescribed to prevent the development of seasonal diseases and infections before and after surgical operations in the mouth or throat.

Release form

The drug is released in tablets, in quantities of 12 or 36 pieces per box.

Pharmacodynamics

Usnic acid has antiviral, antibacterial, and also antiproliferative, antiprotozoal and analgesic properties. After using the drug, a special protective film is formed inside the oral cavity, which covers the existing damage to the mucous membrane (of infectious or mechanical origin). The same film protects the vocal cords with the larynx, which helps to eliminate hoarseness in the voice and sore throat. At the same time, Septofit helps to strengthen the gums and significantly slows down the development of periodontosis.

Usnic acid has antibacterial activity against the following types of pathogens:

  • Gram-positive microbes: Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterococcus faecium and Streptococcus mutans;
  • aerobes: Bacteroides fragilis, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Bacteroides brevis, Bacteroides vulgatus, Clostridium perfringens and Propionibacterium acnes;
  • mycobacteria: aurum, avium, smegmatis and Koch's bacillus.

The active component has an antiviral effect against HSV and Epstein-Barr virus.

Pharmacokinetics

The bioavailability values of the active ingredient are approximately 78%; the protein synthesis rate in blood plasma is 99%. The clearance rate of the substance is approximately 12.2 ml/hour/kg.

Dosing and administration

The tablets must be kept in the mouth until they are completely dissolved. It is forbidden to chew or drink the medicine.

Teenagers aged 12 years and over and adults should take 4-6 tablets per day (at 4-6 hour intervals).

Children aged 4-12 years should take no more than 4 tablets per day (taken at 6-hour intervals).

After the symptoms of the disease have disappeared, it is necessary to take the drug for another 2-3 days to obtain a lasting medicinal effect.

Since the drug is well tolerated, it can be used for a long time, but if there is no improvement after 5 days of use, it is recommended to turn to other methods of therapy.

It can also be used for seasonal prevention of respiratory pathologies – in the above-described portions.

In addition, Septofit is used to protect the respiratory ducts or vocal cords under increased stress. In this case, the medicine is taken in the amount of 1 tablet 1-2 times a day (it is necessary to slowly dissolve it in the mouth). Exceeding the maximum daily dosage is prohibited.
