Sedaphyton is a drug from the sedative group. Consider the indications for its use, dosage, adverse reactions and other pharmacological properties.

The sleeping pills have a combined composition that provides cardiotonic and sedative action. The drug helps normalize the functions of the autonomic and central nervous system. Indications of the sedaphyton

Sedaphyton has such indications for use:

  • Light neurotic disorders.
  • Anxiety and fear.
  • Increased irritability.
  • Rapid fatigue and depression.

  • Sleep disorders in mild form caused by frequent awakenings.
  • Attacks of a headache, migraine.
  • Climacteric syndrome, PMS.
  • Dysmenorrhea.
  • Tachycardia.
  • Arterial hypertension.
  • Neurocirculatory dystonia with pain in the heart.
  • Imminent mental overstrain.
  • Itching dermatoses, hives, dermatitis.

Release form

Sedaphyton has several forms of release: tablets in blisters and in a container, extract of motherwort, valerian and hawthorn thick. Capsules have a green-gray or gray-brown color with multi-colored inclusions. In the container there are 50 capsules, and in one package there can be 2, 4 or 8 blisters for 12 tablets each.

Sedaphyton Fort.  An effective drug for the elimination of light neurotic disorders is Sedaphyton forte. The preparation is released in the form of capsules with an enteric coating. Each capsule contains such substances: dense extract of rhizomes of valerian 100 mg, thick extract of herb of motherwort 60 mg, extract of hawthorn fruit 60 mg. Auxiliary components are: potato starch, magnesium stearate, talc, magnesium carbonate, povidone.

Sedative properties of the drug are based on the components that make up the drug. Plant extracts affect the functional activity of the vegetative and central nervous systems, regulate cardiac activity, normalize blood pressure, suppress a sense of fear and anxiety.

  • Indications for use: various neurotic disorders of mild degree. Unreasonable anxiety, fear, fatigue, depression, sleep disorders. The drug effectively relieves pain in PMS, climacteric syndrome and dysmenorrhea.
  • Contraindications: hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, severe forms of arterial hypotension, depressive conditions, pregnancy and lactation, the age of patients younger than 12 years.
  • Recommended dosage - 1 capsule 2-3 times a day. The duration of therapy depends on the severity of the disease and the effect of treatment in the early days. In case of an overdose, there are headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dilated pupils. For treatment, symptomatic therapy is indicated: gastric lavage and desensitization.
  • Side effects are most often manifested in the form of allergic reactions. There may also be abnormalities on the part of the digestive tract, tachycardia, dizziness, drowsiness.

If Sedaphyton Fort is used in conjunction with other drugs, then all possible interactions should be controlled by the attending physician.


The drug effect of the drug is due to the components that make up its composition. Pharmacodynamics Sedaphyton indicates that tannins, essential oils and saponins affect the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. There is also sedative and spasmolytic activity. The drug normalizes heart activity, reduces heart rate and blood pressure. Soothes, relieves mental stress and speeds up the process of falling asleep.

One of the active ingredients of the drug is hawthorn extract. It includes choline, flavonoids and phytosterols, acetylcholine, triterpenic acids. The substance improves blood circulation and circulation in the coronary and brain structures, increases the contractility of the myocardium and reduces its excitability. This increases the endurance of the heart muscle in conditions of hypoxia and normalizes blood pressure in the vessels. Tablets lower the level of cholesterol in the blood.


The therapeutic effect of Sedaphyton develops 60-90 minutes after taking the drug. Pharmacokinetics indicates a rapid absorption and absorption, which provides an enteric coating of tablets. The therapeutic effect is maintained for an extended period of time. Active components are metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys with urine in the form of metabolites.

Use of the sedaphyton during pregnancy

The importance of using sedatives during pregnancy should be determined by the attending physician. Sedaphyton is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation, as there is no reliable data on its safety for the fetus.


The main contraindications to the use of Sedaphyton are associated with the individual intolerance of its components. The drug is not prescribed during pregnancy and lactation, for patients younger than 12 years. Vegetative sedative is not used in depressive states, arterial hypotension, pathologies from the cardiovascular or respiratory systems.

Side effects of the sedaphyton

In some patients, Sedaphyton causes side effects. They are manifested by such symptoms:

To eliminate them, it is necessary to reduce the dosage of the drug or stop taking it and without fail to seek medical help.

Dosing and administration

The degree of severity of pathological symptoms depends on the method of application and the dose of the drug. Sedaphyton is recommended to take 1-2 capsules 2-3 times a day. If the drug is used to treat insomnia, then the pill is better taken 1-2 hours before night rest. The course of treatment is determined by the doctor individually for each patient. During therapy it is recommended to refrain from driving the car and working with potentially dangerous mechanisms.


If the recommendations for the use of the drug are not observed, development of adverse symptoms may occur. Overdose is manifested by skin allergic reactions, decreased concentration of attention. Also, increased drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, weakness. Symptomatic therapy is indicated for treatment. It is necessary to wash the stomach and take enterosorbents.

Interactions with other drugs

Very often Sedaphyton is used in the complex therapy of neurotic disorders. Interactions with other drugs should be regulated by a physician. The drug enhances the effect of antispasmodics, hypnotics and sedatives.

Increases the activity of antihypertensive drugs and analgesics. Affects the effect of Digoxin. It is not recommended for use with antiarrhythmic drugs of the third generation. Sedaphyton is not allowed to be taken concomitantly with alcohol, since the drug enhances the effect of alcohol.

Storage conditions

According to storage conditions, the tablets should be kept in the original packaging, protected from sunlight and dry place, which is inaccessible to children. The recommended storage temperature is 15-25 ºС. If the storage conditions are not respected, the drug loses its medicinal properties.

Shelf life

Sedaphyton has a shelf life of 24 months from the production date (indicated on the packaging). At the end of the drug is prohibited to take and must be disposed of. An overdue medication does not have therapeutic properties and can cause uncontrolled adverse reactions.
