Sebaceous nevus is a hamartoma of the sebaceous glands, usually existing from birth, however, there are cases when this developmental defect was latent until puberty and only with the onset of the latter it manifested itself clinically. Usually, sebaceous nevus exists in the form of a plaque of varying configuration and size, with a fine-grained surface, varying degrees of yellowish tint. Localization, as a rule, is on the scalp, but can be different - on the face, behind the ear, inguinal fold, etc.

Pathomorphology of sebaceous nevus. Papillomatosis and acanthosis of the epidermis. In the dermis, hyperplasia of the sebaceous glands consisting of mature cells. usually around the dilated excretory ducts opening into the hair follicle canal or directly onto the skin surface. In addition, numerous nodular clusters of sebaceous glands are determined without visible connection with the excretory ducts. The glands have a normal structure - dark small cells of the germ layer are located along the periphery, towards the center the cells increase in size and have a fat-containing foamy cytoplasm. In the central sections, the cells can lose their outlines, turning into a fatty secretion. The degree of cell differentiation can be equal, including with a predominance of cells of the horny zone. This can cause some difficulty in differentiating the malformation with adenoma of the sebaceous gland. This option can be considered as the occurrence of adenoma based on the malformation of the sebaceous glands.
