Salmonellosis enteritis is one of the types of severe poisoning of the body caused by salmonella. In the risk group, the high probability of infection with salmonella is found in dairy products, eggs, meat. In these products Salmonella is not just found, it reproduces them superbly and quickly.

The source of infection can serve not only food, raw or ready to eat, but also animals: cows, pigs, chickens. It is very rare to get infected from a sick person or a carrier of this microorganism.

How is salmonella enteritis manifested?

The path of infection is only food. With the ingestion of salmonella into the gastrointestinal tract before the manifestation of the first signs of the disease can pass from 6 hours to 3 days. In any case, no matter how long the incubation period lasts, salmonella enteritis always appears suddenly, dramatically from the temperature rise to high rates, nausea, vomiting, fetid and frequent diarrhea resembling water.

Diarrhea is repeated often, up to 15 times a day. There comes rapid dehydration. The general state of health also suffers. Headaches and weakness, pale skin, dizziness and dry mouth. A characteristic indicator is the presence of pain in the navel. Pain can be permanent or paroxysmal.

With palpation of the abdomen, the peristalsis of the intestine is intensified and a sharp painfulness is observed when the patient is jerkily pressed into the umbilical zone, the so-called "fork syndrome". Pain is typical in the epigastric region.

With a significant loss of fluid body can come:

  • Dyspnea.
  • The slowness of the voice.
  • Cardiopalmus.
  • Dryness and flabbiness of the skin and mucous membranes of the lips, eyes, mouth.
  • Decrease in pressure.
  • Convulsions.
  • Discontinuation of urine (oliguria)

Salmonella enteritis: methods of diagnosis

When a patient enters a hospital with suspicion of salmonella enteritis, immediately the tests of all of his secretions are carried out:

  • Cal.
  • Urine.
  • Blood.
  • Emetic masses.

All foodstuffs that the patient used to eat before the onset of the disease are necessarily removed, for further investigation into the content of the pathogenic agent.

How is salmonella enteritis treated?

First of all, it is necessary to remove the remains of toxins from the stomach, which were formed as a result of destruction of a part of salmonella from gastric juice. For this purpose, gastric lavage is carried out followed by the use of sorbents.

Then they urgently go on to recovering the lost fluid in the body. If the situation is not critical, then it is sufficient to provide abundant and fractional drink, often, but in small portions. In case of serious damage, it is necessary to start infusion of special solutions (glucose 5%, physiological solution 0.9%, rehydron, reopolyglucin) via intravenous drip.

After priority procedures, food enzymes are administered in the form of tablets, for example, festal, to alleviate stress on the digestive system and rapid digestion of food.

It is good to introduce biostimulating drugs - lactafiltrum, linex and the like. These drugs are useful for the prevention of dysbacteriosis.

In the acute phase and during the recovery period, a special diet is prescribed, containing an increased amount of liquid and digestible food. Completely excluded heavy and rough products, including fats, especially refractory.

Salmonella enteritis does not provide antibiotic treatment. You need to remember this. To introduce antibiotics is necessary only in the event that complications are added or chronic diseases become aggravated.
