The essence of the drug's action is that its individual components have a depressing effect on the cough center of the brain (located in the medulla oblongata). The pain sensitivity center located in the thalamus is also suppressed, due to which pain sensations are significantly reduced. The transmission of nerve impulses to the cerebral cortex is also blocked. The positive effect is that, unlike other similar drugs, it does not have a depressing effect on the respiratory function itself, and does not have a negative effect on the state of cardiovascular activity. Another advantage is the fact that the drug has neither a narcotic nor a hypnotic effect.

The drug significantly alleviates the manifestations of inflammatory processes, especially those that occur in the throat, nasopharynx, pharynx. The drug has the ability to stop various allergic reactions, reduce bronchospasm.

Dosing and administration

The drug is prescribed one third of a teaspoon per dose for a child over three years old, and one teaspoon for children starting from 10 years old. Usually the frequency of administration is no more than 3-4 times a day. The duration of treatment is different, and varies widely: from 3 days to 1 month.

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to individual components of the drug, in case of individual intolerance. It is also not recommended to take the drug to children under 3 years of age, since it has a severe effect on the body. There is not enough information confirming or refuting the safety of this drug for this age category, so it is better to exclude such treatment.

Overdose cases are also rare, but if a large amount of the drug is accidentally taken, the first signs of dyspeptic disorders are observed. Headache, nausea, and vomiting are also observed. In case of overdose, it is important to provide emergency care and call an ambulance. First, you need to wash out the stomach, then go to the hospital for further detoxification and rehabilitation treatment.
