Indications Radicold

Indications for use are completely based on the action of its active components. The drug is used for symptomatic treatment of acute inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract. The medicine helps in the treatment of rhinopathies of an allergic nature, that is, pollinosis and allergic rhinitis. One Radicold tablet is a combination of such components as paracetamol, phenylpropanolamine and chlorpheniramine maleate.

• Paracetamol - has antipyretic effect. This effect is due to the effect on the hypothalamus, since it contains the center of thermoregulation. The substance increases the heat dissipation due to vasodilation and increased sweating. The pain killer effect arises from the analgesic effect and inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins in the central nervous system. The analgesic effect is noted 20 minutes after ingestion.
• Chlorpheniramine maleate - reduces the swelling of the mucous membrane of the nose and paranasal sinuses, signs of conjunctivitis, bronchospasm and suppresses coughing. The active substance weakens the transmission of nerve impulses, due to which an antishaw effect appears. The action of the component is maintained for 2-6 hours after application.
• Phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride - is used for symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion. The substance has an adrenomimetic effect on the endothelium of the vessels of the nasal mucosa. This effect eliminates obstruction. It is because of this component that elderly patients should take the medicine with extreme caution, since the substance acts on the central nervous system and has a vasoconstrictive effect.

The drug is designed to treat colds and flu symptoms from the first days of the disease. Its feature is that the composition includes specially selected active components, effectively and quickly eliminating the malaise.

Release form

Form of release Radicold - pills of light yellow color with a risk and a facet. The pharmaceutical product is released in packs of 10 blisters, each with 10 radicold tablets.

Each tablet contains: 500 mg of paracetamol, 25 mg of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride and 2 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. As auxiliary components act - silica, sodium starch, corn starch, magnesium stearate, sodium starch and talc.

The company produces not only Radikold, but also its modification - Radikold Plus. The latter contains the same active ingredients, plus caffeine. The multicomponent composition has symptomatic treatment of catarrhal and acute respiratory viral infections.

Pharmacodynamics

The medication stimulates the central nervous system, but does not increase blood pressure. The phenylephrine, which is part of the product, reduces puffiness and flushing of the mucous membrane, which facilitates nasal breathing. The component has anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator and anti-allergic effect. Caffeine increases motor activity, eliminates headaches and a sense of lethargy. In addition, the combination of paracetamol and caffeine enhances the analgesic and antipyretic effects of the former. 

Pharmacodynamics Radicold is the principle of the action of active components after ingestion. So, tablets are a combined remedy for the treatment of allergic reactions, runny nose and symptoms of viral infections of the upper respiratory tract. Let us consider in more detail the pharmacodynamics of each component:

• Paracetamol is a derivative of para-aminophenol with an analgesic and antipyretic effect. The substance reduces the excitability of the thermoregulatory center in the hypothalamus and inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins.
• Chlorphenamine is an H1 receptor blocker with a mild sedative effect. The substance has an anti-allergic effect, significantly reduces the severity of exudative processes, eliminates rhinorrhea, lacrimation, itching in the nose and eyes.
• Phenylpropanolamine - this component causes vasoconstriction and affects α-adrenoreceptors. Due to this, hyperemia in the tissues and edema decreases, and the nasal passage is increased.

Pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics Radicold directly depends on the pharmacokinetic properties of each of its active components. Consider these substances:

• Paracetamol - absorbed by 95% in the upper intestine. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is observed after 15 minutes and remains for 2 hours after administration. Half-life is 2-3 hours. The substance is metabolized in the liver and excreted in the form of urine.
• Chlorpheniramine is absorbed slowly from the digestive tract, the level of absorption is 80%. The maximum concentration is observed after 3-6 hours after application. Binding to blood plasma proteins at 45%. It is excreted by urine, the half-life is about 30 hours.
• Phenylpropanolamine - completely absorbed from the digestive tract. The maximum concentration is achieved in 1-2 hours. Metabolised in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. The elimination half-life is 3-4 hours.

Dosing and administration

The method of administration and dose are individual for each patient. As a rule, the necessary dosage is selected by the attending physician. Radikold take after eating. Adults are recommended to drink 1 tablet three times a day for the first symptoms of influenza or upper respiratory tract infection. In this case, the intervals between receptions should not be less than four hours. Duration of treatment is 5-7 days.

Longer use Radicold is not recommended, as this can negatively affect the functioning of the body and complicate the further treatment of ARVI. Do not exceed the recommended dose, because there are symptoms of overdose and other side effects.

Use Radicold during pregnancy

Use of Radicold during pregnancy is not allowed. To date, no clinical studies have been conducted, and there is no reliable data on the effect of the components of the medication on the fetus. Tablets are forbidden to use and during the breastfeeding period.

If the drug is used during the gestation period, the woman should be aware of the possible risks to the fetus. As a rule, during pregnancy, the first symptoms of acute respiratory viral infection and influenza are eliminated with the help of safe herbal remedies and alternative medicine methods.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Radicold are based on the activity of its active ingredients. So, it is forbidden to take tablets at:

• Individual intolerance to one of the ingredients of the medicine
• Arterial hypertension
• During pregnancy and lactation
• Ischemic heart disease
• Chronic alcoholism
• Diabetes mellitus
• Diseases of the central nervous system
• Hyperplasia of the prostate
• Age of patient under 12 years of age
• Violations of kidney and liver function.

Side effects Radicold

Side effects Radicold can occur if the dosage is not met or if the recommended treatment period is exceeded. Possible side effects:

• Nausea and vomiting

• Dryness of the mucous membranes of the nose and respiratory tract

Overdose

Overdosing occurs after prolonged use and non-compliance with dosage. The main symptoms: nausea, vomiting, dizziness, kidney damage, hepatonecrosis. In rare cases, anorexia is possible. Treatment is symptomatic. The patient is washed with the stomach, appointed enterosorbents and N-acetylcysteine intravenously.

There is a risk group for the development of side effects, it includes patients with high blood pressure, the elderly and men with hypertrophy (benign) of the prostate. Diseases of the liver and alcohol use enhance the toxic effect of tablets. During therapy it is not recommended to engage in hazardous activities or drive vehicles.

Interactions with other drugs

Interaction Radicold with other drugs is possible only with the recommendations of the doctor to use several drugs at the same time.

• Simultaneous taking of tablets with rifampicin or barbiturates increases the risk of hepatotoxic action of the drug.
• The drug enhances the effect of sedatives, MAO inhibitors and ethanol. In this case, the drug should not be taken with other drugs, which include paracetamol.
• The drug enhances the activity of indirect anticoagulants. If the tablets are taken against the background of propranolol, cardiac glycosides or atenolol, an arrhythmia is possible.

Storage conditions

Storage conditions Radicold comply with the rules for storage of other medicinal tablets. It must be stored in a dry place, protected from sunlight. The temperature of storage should not exceed 25 ° C. Keep the radicold away from children.
