Alternative treatments for inflammation of the prostate gland recognized by official medicine include pumpkin seeds for prostatitis. Moreover, a number of drugs are produced, the main component of which is pumpkin seed oil. [1]
Indications Pumpkin seeds
Indications for the use of pumpkin seeds, as well as pumpkin oil are: non-bacterial, congestive and calculous chronic prostatitis , prostate adenoma, diffuse changes in the prostate parenchyma .
At the same time, the treatment of prostatitis with pumpkin seeds is an additional tool in the complex treatment of chronic prostatitis . [2]
Pharmacodynamics
The mechanism of therapeutic effect, that is, the benefits of pumpkin seeds for prostatitis, is due to the content of oil in pumpkin seeds, which has antioxidant properties due to the presence of biologically active substances. Among them, carotenoids (provitamin A), zinc and one of the essential fatty acids, linoleic, are considered the most important for the prostate gland. [3]
Carotenoids help to reduce lipid peroxidation in the membranes of prostate parenchyma cells, improve microcirculation and tissue trophism in it.
100 g of pumpkin seeds contain almost 8 mg of zinc (with the required daily dose for men - 11 mg). And zinc, present in significant amounts in healthy prostate tissue, is responsible for cell growth, DNA repair, and immunity. The optimal level of this vital trace element in the body reduces the risk of prostatic hyperplasia, and also reduces the intensity and frequency of symptoms of chronic prostatitis .
The need for omega-polyunsaturated linoleic acid is due to the fact that its metabolism produces omega-6 unsaturated arachidonic acid, which is necessary for cellular immunity (synthesis of prostaglandins) for the regeneration of damaged tissues. By the way, the combination of zinc and linoleic acid in pumpkin seed oil increases its absorption and hydrolysis of essential fatty acids to phospholipids. [4]
Dosing and administration
All recipes for pumpkin seeds with honey from prostatitis come down to one method of preparation: for 400-500 g of the most crushed raw peeled seeds, half the amount of natural honey (200-250 g) is taken; the ingredients are mixed until smooth. You can roll balls (weighing about 15 g), or you can simplify the method of application and take a teaspoon of this mixture daily for one and a half to two months (in the morning, before meals).
No one knows exactly how much pumpkin seeds should be eaten for prostatitis, since this is an alternative remedy, not a medical drug. It is also not known if it can be overdosed.
Contraindications
This remedy is contraindicated in the presence of gastritis and gastric ulcer, cholelithiasis, dyspepsia and inflammatory bowel disease, allergies to pumpkin seeds, as well as obesity and diabetes.
Side effects Pumpkin seeds
Possible side effects of pumpkin seeds include problems with bowel function, in particular diarrhea.
