Percussion of the liver is part of a comprehensive study of the liver and gallbladder and allows you to orient in relation to the size of the liver, an increase which primarily causes a shift in the lower boundary, and only in rare cases (abscess, large cyst, large tumor node) - its upper limit.

The upper lobule of the liver usually coincides with the border of the lower edge of the right lung, the lower border corresponds to the lower edge of the liver, the percutaneous location of which helps to further palpate the liver.

Percussion of the lower border of the liver - quiet, starts from the region of tympanic sound at the level of the navel or lower, then the finger-plessimetre moves up to the appearance of an absolute dull sound. Dimensions of the liver (absolute stupidity), determined percussion according to Kurlov, correspond to the right sredneklyuchichnoy line 9 cm, on the median line - 8 cm, along the left edge of the costal arch - 7 cm; if the liver is enlarged, the first large size is indicated by a fraction, in the numerator of which - the total size on the right sredneklyuchichnoy line, in the denominator - that part of it that corresponds to the size that extends beyond the costal arch down. Normally, the percussion of the lower edge of the liver on the right sredneklyuchichnoy line is not determined. At a deep inspiration and in an upright position, the lower border of the liver shifts downward by 1-1.5 cm.
