Pharmacodynamics
Pharmacodynamics is based on the action of essential oil of mint, which contains menthol, menthol esters (with acids - acetic and valerian) and terpenoids (pinene, limonene, fellandren, cineole, citral, etc.).
Irritating the nerve endings of the mucous membrane of the mouth, esophagus and stomach, these substances have a slight local anesthetic effect. At the same time, it strengthens the intestinal peristalsis. The increase in bile production and the mild choleretic effect that Mint tablets give is explained by the presence of polyphenols in mint oil.
In addition, by stimulating the cold receptors of the mucosa, menthol reflexively narrows the surface vessels, regulating their tone. This, in turn, contributes to a venous outflow of blood. Being a natural antiseptic, this essential oil acts as an antimicrobial and astringent.
