Langes is a mucolytic, which contains the active ingredient carbocysteine.
Indications of the langesa
It is indicated for elimination of signs of bronchial secretion disorder, as well as sputum excretion. In particular, this applies to acute forms of bronchopulmonary pathologies (for example, the acute form of bronchitis). In addition, the medicine is used in the period of exacerbation of chronic forms of pathology of respiratory organs.
Carbocysteine has an effect on the gel stage of the passage of mucus inside the airways. It ruptures the disulfide bonds of glycoproteins, resulting in the liquefaction of the overly viscous secretion produced by the bronchi. Also, the substance helps to withdraw phlegm from the lungs.
Mukoregulatory action of the active component is due to activation of sialic transferase (this is an enzyme located inside the bronchial mucosa in enterocytes). Carbocysteine stabilizes the proportions of neutral as well as acidic sialomucins, which are secreted by the bronchi, and helps restore their elasticity with viscosity.
Stimulates the function of the ciliary epithelium, and also improves the work of the mucociliary system. It helps regenerate the mucous membranes of the respiratory ducts, heals its structure, reduces hyperplasia of enterocytes, and as a result, the production of mucus decreases.
Promotes the recovery of the secretion of the immunoactive element IgA (as a specific defense), and in addition the number of thiol groups of mucus elements (as a nonspecific defense). Has anti-inflammatory effect, which develops with the kinin-inhibiting activity of sialomucins. This helps reduce puffiness and relieve bronchial obstruction.
When administered orally, the drug is rapidly absorbed through the digestive tract. The peak level inside the plasma is observed after 2 hours. The bioavailability of carbocysteine is very low (about 10% of the dosage used), because the intestine metabolism is intensive. Also, this effect is affected by the effect of the "first passage" occurring in the liver.
The half-life is 2 hours. The excretion of the active ingredient and its decay products occurs mainly with urine.
Use of the langesa during pregnancy
It is forbidden to prescribe a medicine for 1 trimester. During 2-3 trimesters or during lactation, Langez is used exclusively under the supervision of a doctor and only in cases where the benefits for a woman exceed the possible risk of complications in the fetus.
Side effects of the langesa
Use of the medicine can cause some side effects:
- Gastrointestinal organs: vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea;
- CNS organs: the appearance of a feeling of weakness or malaise, as well as severe dizziness;
- allergic manifestations: there is a unique urticaria, itching, Quincke edema, as well as exanthema (symptoms can be removed over time intervals).
If the patient develops side effects, you should lower the dosage or stop using the drug, and always consult with the doctor.
Dosing and administration
The medicine is taken orally. The size of the dose depends on the age of the patient:
- children 2-5 years old are prescribed 2 ml twice a day (60 ml bottles are used);
- children 5-15 years old are prescribed 2 ml three times a day (60 ml vials are used);
- children over 15 years of age, and adults - 15 ml or 1 packet three times per day (200 ml vials or bags are used).
Children under 15 years of age should not be given more than 2 ml of medication (100 mg) in 1 dose.
The therapeutic course should last for a maximum of 8-10 days. In children, the maximum possible course duration should not be longer than 5 days.
For adolescents from 15 years and adults, a solution of 200 ml bottles or from bags is used, and for bottles of 2-15 years, 60 ml vials are used. To accurately measure the dose, you should use a measuring cup (200 ml bottles) or a dosing syringe (60 ml bottles).
Interactions with other drugs
For the period of use of Langes it is recommended to abandon antitussive drugs, as well as drugs that depress the process of secretion in the bronchi.
In combination with antibacterial drugs, their effectiveness is enhanced. Also, there is a mutual enhancement of the properties of Langhes and GCS (when combined).
